Washington Wiggers?
What battle did the Wiggers ever win?
Washington Wiggers?
Washington Wiggers?
If people think the Washington Redskins name is offensive, then they should change the name.
Change it to Maryland Redskins.
I will accept the Washington Wannabes.
Either way.....now that others are pushing the issue and Obama has weighed in. Eventually the name change will come. Then once it does. The other teams out there in any Sport will have to do so to.
It was precedent over Cultural Sensitivities over the team named the Bullets.....wasn't it tho? Now that issue didn't have jack **** to do with Skin color. Whats your excuse for that now?
Or were you going to try to say that had nothing to do with Cultural Sensitivities in Washington?
Maryland has a competent football team already. (and I don't mean the Terps. They blow)
You DO realize that there has been a push against using Native American names and imagery in pro and college sports for quite some time, and that this ISN'T the first time the Redskins name has been called into question, right?
Yeah I am aware of it.....Right here in Illinois with the college. Nimby already brought up the Fighting Illini getting rid of their Chief. Which none of it changed the Annenberg Poll or the polls that are out now.
Miami Redskins. Change the helmet and it's not racist.

BTW, the third or fourth NFL game I ever went to, Ali Haji Sheik was the Redskins' kicker. Former Michigan great.
Obama isn't a football fan. You may remember when Obama demanded the national airways to give a speech at the same time of the NFL opening game kick off was suppose to take place a couple of years ago. Remember ?
Obama saying " that was offending a sizable group of people" is just another Obama lie. How would Obama know ? Has he ever lived on the "REZ" I have. Has he even put a foot on an Indian Reservation ?
The vast majority of Native Americans could care less about sports teams identifying with Native Americans. They are more concerned about jobs that aren't on the rez or for the lucky tribes who have casinos, they are more concerned with their casino royalty payments.
The only Native Americans who are making a fuss is a small minority of teens and those in their twenties who haven't grown up yet and are part of the AIM (American Indian Movement.) It's a phase that a small minority of young Native Americans go through. Eventually they stop dreaming and open their eyes and become productive members of the tribe.
Really why not change it to the Washington ..."N-word"? If we had a team call the Washington RedNecks .....or the Washington Hill-Billies ....pretty sure your whiney A$$ would be howling over it. This ..like many such issue is all about ...it doesn't affect me ....and especially because it does not affect me ....it's OK...that's what the defense of this name always comes down to.Liberals and so called progressives will milk this issue for what it's worth to divide and gain votes to further their radical agenda they have planned for you and I.
St. John's changed its name. Syracuse changed its name, and its name only became NA-oriented after its original meaning, the Northern Irish "Orangemen," was scotched by anti-Irish bias in the early 1900s. Many colleges have changed their names and/or mascots. And not all imagery of Native Americans is necessarily offensive, but using their old traditions as football pep rally calls and "REDSKINS" is at the very least pushing the envelope.
If it were called "Blackskins," we as a society would never allow it, and rightfully so. Explain to me how "Redskins" is different.
Are you insane? Why does anybody need to be a football "fan" to address this issue? The term itself have no meaning....what qualifies somebody to be a football "fan"....what ...watch 20 hour or more football a week?
Obama have a better perspective to address this issue than you because he is more studied in America's history. But even if you're not a historian the average person basically understand that Americans stole the land and butchered the Indians, the country's original natives.
I'm sure if the name was for a basketball team Obama wouldn't feel had some superior knowledge or authority to criticize.
Why is this an issue....how many people should there be before Obama could make this statement ....10,......100.......10,000?
Because you know more about their feelings ....than even they do!
Really.....I've been seeing protest about this for more than 30 years now. And I'm very sure ...the media have ensured this isn't front page news ..which is why it's crucial for Obama to weigh in.

Never let a good diversion go to waste.
President Obama reminds me of some of the idiots I used to work with who always had great advice for how you should do your job but hadn't a clue how to do their own.
President Obama should try to fix some of the disasterous dysfunction that permiates his administration and relations with congress instead of constantly opining on things that are none of his god damn business.
President Obama says, ‘I’d think about changing’ name of Washington Redskins
It was supposed to be the last word: Never!
But the decades-long argument over the name of Washington’s football team, the Redskins, has only grown louder since owner Daniel M. Snyder vowed in May he would never — “you can use caps” — change it.
The newest voice emerged Saturday: President Obama.
“If I were the owner of the team and I knew that there was a name of my team — even if it had a storied history — that was offending a sizeable group of people, I’d think about changing it,” Obama said in an interview published by the Associated Press on Saturday.
Obama is only the latest to weigh in. Prominent sports journalists have announced they will refrain from using the name. A Native American tribe in New York has launched a national ad campaign. On Monday, it will hold a public conference near the Washington hotel where National Football League owners are meeting. And, in a move that has been described as potentially more significant than any lawsuit or legislation — both of which are also in the works — a group led by a former Federal Communications Commission chairman is working to persuade broadcasters to stop saying the name on the airwaves.
But the willingness of the president, the nation’s most influential sports fan, to weigh in has raised the protracted debate to a new level of prominence.....snip~
President Obama says, ‘I’d think about changing’ name of Washington Redskins - The Washington Post
Well here is Obama this past Saturday looking to weigh into another issue that he has no clue about.....The Nation's Most Influential Sports Fan?????
Be alright if we had a President that was into all kinds of Sports. Then I could go for that. What do you think? Should Obama be weighing in on this and trying to bring this issue into the Political World of PC?
Should the Washington Redskin Owner Change the Name? If this was such a problem wouldn't all Native Americans be all up into this issue?
I think this is only a problem to the mostly white liberal political correct crowd. I remember ten years of so back a big push to have the Atlanta Braves change their name, along with the Cleveland Indians, Washington Redskins and some colleges like St. John's Red Men. Anyway for a while some sports announcers were calling the Braves the Bravos. Some still do now and then.
I think it is up to the owner and the fan base. I also think politicians have much more important problems to take care of and solve than a name of some sports team. I think a lot of these politicians take up these causes to take the voters mind off their ineptness when it comes to governing.
Mornin Pero......indeed you are correct with what was Front page news issues before. What do you think about these announcers and pundits now refusing to say the name on the air?
Do you know who Lanny Davis is? Seems most of the left don't have a clue as to who is.
Bet Obama knows who Lanny is.....huh?
Yeah Obama is facing a shut down.....plus don't forget he sent out all those letters telling people in Government.....that only essential personnel can work. Wonder how most other feels being told they are non-essential. Do you think they feel exceptional now? lol
IMO, it's up to the voice of the people who are supposedly being offended. Let them vote on it, and majority rules.
Personally, I hear more about it being racist from people who have no involvement than I do from those from the particular group.
Anybody have links from one side or the other regarding the Native American's opinions on it?

No, that is not how it works.
The team is a privately owned business and the public does not have the right to vote on if a private business will change their name.
If they are offended, they can stay away from the games.
I doubt the team will see any drop in attendance.
Usually the ones complaining the loudest have nothing to do with the issue on either side.
