Appreciation thread

I love our women.
Being a melting pot, we have some amazing mixes and a wide array of regional varieties. :2razz:

I like the open space. When I was in Japan, its just people on top of people, tiny cars, etc....

I like that we actually cook a steak over here. In Spain, they barely bother to brown the outside.

I like that because of the size of our country, you can really live in any climate you wish. We got dry deserts, mountains, forests, sweltering swamplands, artic tundras, tropical islands, etc.... You don't have to move to a different country to live in a place that suits your comfort.

And I love the fact that we don't love soccer. :2razz:

Seconded.

You can go to one state or another, it will always be different in one way.

Oh and it actually has sun more than twice a year. Always a win.

I like the fact Americans are so patriotic.

They love their flags and actually display it, i don't think they know how truly unique that is and unapolgetic when they say they are American =P

Hollywood ofc

there is a saying America love it ot leave it. will finally end up living in South Afrika this year or early next. i find nothing in the US that the rest of the world does not enjoy as well.

but i do like the US Pacific NW and a few big cities. i thought it would be good to say something nice.

I was just talking to a friend about this thread who has been in Europe and works with many people from there. She said she appreciates most about Europe is that they are very mellow when it comes to things like sex, race, religion, etc. Conversations are much more open there.

She also said that the Europeans she knows have very different table manners than we do. They expect staff to act like staff and will be rude to servers.

She also said that she does like how things in Europe are not as readily available as in the states. She told me a story about how she tried to do laundry in a laundromat and it was very far away from everything. When she finally got to a laundromat there was a sign that instructed patrons to go to another place to get coins to use the machines. When she got there, it was closed for 2 hours for lunch. That was in Amsterdam.

She said all-in-all she loves Europe because she felt it was refreshing to be able to have a conversation about any topic freely without it turning into frustration.

I don't know what America has that Europe or other countries don't have, so it's hard to say what i like that is unique to America.
I like... our president. :)

A nice try ten but it shows your insularity

Yep, thats us.

Well, it makes sense I'd be "insular"; I'm not exactly a world traveler.
I've only been out of my own city a handful of times, and I've never wandered far.
I can't think of anything we have in the US that I like, that wouldn't likely be available in any industrialized nation. Sue me.
What am I supposed to say? I like nationalism? I don't.

You should travel to Europe. There are so many Americans who havent left there own home state. I dont think you realize how weird, boarding onto pitiying, that is for us Europeans.

I went to Disneyland Florida in the year 2000 with my father and a woman who was a close friend of his (or so he says). It was the best time to go because as you could imagine, Disneyland was fantastic on the new millenium. We went about August time, and left from Stansted Airport on the boarders of London and it took us about 8 hours to get there. I was much younger then so i dont remember everything but i do remember going on Virgin Airways and they gave us free Virgin Airways bags when we boarded the plane (i went to the cockpit too - back in those days before 9/11, Captains we'rent as reclusive as they are now).

Anyway moving on, basically, everything in America, especially the people, are supersized. The McDonalds portions we get in Europe are nothing compared to the American Big Macs which are sumptously generous, and there are milkshake machines (massive ones) and you pull the lever and loads of strawberry milkshake comes flowing out. I love the fact that everything in America is just...BIGGER, and the pancakes, which me and my father between us could only eat about 6 but the fat American dude next to us got 11 for himself (and they where huge pancakes), covered in mouth watering Canadian syrup and/or honey, whatever the preference.

I also like the American hospitailty i experienced, there love for food, fun and entertainment and there strange lifestyle (far different from the European household, i would say). Freedom just eminated everywhere, and if you havent been, its an uber cool place to go.

And these are positives Kaya? Feck man its due to these kinds of excess that we are in the poo- come on detract your intellect from sentimentality and give a proper account.

Haha what??

You tellin' me you dont like McDonalds, paul?

Things that I appreciate about the US.

Cajun food and true BBQ food. Texas style chili and so on. While more generalised American food is gross (baconayise.... come on....), portions far too big (which shows in many Americans), there are many local specialities across the country that are unique and frankly /drooling.

Personal computers. If it had not been for companies like IBM then computers would not have become personal.

Internet. Not that we have the internet we use today because of America because many were involved there, but building the first steps of the Internet back in the day as a military system, that in turn was turned into the Internet we know today with the help of people from all around the world.

TV series and movies. Star Trek, Stargate and all the good tv shows that the US has produced over the years. Very few countries produce quality programming now and in the past.. sure there is a lot of crap in the US and else where but there are a few gems that constantly stick out and get remembered. Although saying that, quite a large portion of the generally accepted "good" movies and TV-series involve quite a number of non Americans in all aspects.

Being the industrial juggernaut that saved the free world during WW2. If it had not been for the brains of Roosevelt and the will power not to bend to the isolationist in the US at the time, then when the US finally did enter the war, they were able to switch their production capacity to war production pretty fast and supply their allies so they could hold out, rebuild their forces and finally combined with US forces, drive the Axis into the ground across the planet. If it had not been for lend-lease, or supplying the Russians, then the Germans would have won and the US would have become a 3rd world power, isolated in a Nazi/Japanese dominated world.

Henry Ford for making cars so cheap that everyone could own one and not just the rich.

Elvis, Motown, Michael Jackson and others.

and lets not forget.. the hours of entertainment from scandalous wanna be stars like Paris Hilton, Lindsey Lohan and Britney Spears!

there are most likely others but these are off the top of my head. No doubt the US has left its mark in human history, especially during the last 50 years.

Peter your drunk:mrgreen:

Laila you are getting carried away with mythology, how many times, and what states have you visited?

Paul

Haha what??

You tellin' me you dont like McDonalds, paul?

Being honest, i hate the food but love the convenience.

Paul

Laila that was very nice of you to start this thread.

I love Europe and definitely could find a spot over there to live. The history alone is mind blowing, but the coffee sucks.

The US isn't perfect, but there's a lot of good in everyday Americans. Not our politicians. Not Hollywierd. Just regular ole Joes. :usflag2:

Italy kicks our teeth in regarding strong coffee.

Oh, yes.

But remember, I was addressing somebody originally from Turkey. THe coffee they serve there they have to ration out in those tiny, little demitasse cups cause the stuff would cause an aneurysm if gulped down the way we do it!

In my travels, I think Australia is the first country I would want to live in if the US were suddenly removed from the equation. Just have to make sure and remember to order my burgers without any beets on them. Wierdos.

Gunner, don't **** all over my damn thread.

This is a nice one.
If you wish to bash Americans or US. Kindly make a thread down in the basement.
