Not in Ohio, where this occurred.17 is still a minor.

I just watched the video. Parents loved it and applauded him, complete with screams of approval. That's why these guys do it - some of our country loves this kind of authoritarianism. He likely knows he's full of crap but is throwing red meat to the rubes, and they love it.And having a mayor dumb enough to think it could be prosecuted as such.

Even in Ohio. It may be over the age of consent, but it's still a minor. You're not a legal adult until 18. Further, even in states were the age of consent is 16 you're still sick if you're doing certain things with them. Not in Ohio, where this occurred.

Thanks for the source of the ABJ. Even they call him out on his tactics.Better article...
Hudson mayor widens political divide by bullying school board to resign or face charges
Hudson Mayor Craig Shubert makes threats that are an abuse of power and another example of divisive politics diminishing public institutions.www.beaconjournal.com
Shubert's threats are a gross abuse of his mayoral power and another example of divisive politics diminishing public institutions, including his own office.
At Monday’s Hudson Board of Education meeting, residents expressed their anger that “raw filth,” as one man said, slipped by the gatekeepers and into the classroom. “642 Things to Write About” is provided to high school juniors and seniors in a College Credit Plus writing class as supplemental reading.
John Brown lived in Hudson. The family house is still there and it is a museum. So child pornography can be overlooked if they resign? That sounds like aiding and abetting criminals.
Hudson was founded in 1799 by New England pioneers who brought with them a hatred of the institution of slavery. One influential settler, Owen Brown, was an active Abolitionist and Underground Railroad “Stationmaster”, as well as father to controversial abolitionist John Brown, who lived here for twenty years.

While online book sellers say “642 Things” helps spur would-be writers through such exercises as “crafting your own obituary and penning an ode to an onion,” furious speakers at the meeting detailed adult-oriented suggestions. Drink a beer and write about the taste is one exercise; another is to “describe your favorite part of a man’s body using only verbs,” according to a resident who read aloud some of the 642 suggestions.
Some Hudson residents who spoke at the board meeting indicated they were already upset with diversity efforts in curriculum and strict COVID-19 policies. This book, despite its being supplemental reading for some college-bound students, is another reason these residents say they can’t “trust” the authorities.
When you became an apologist for someone handing out material that has writing a sexual encounter as part of it, passing it off as it being OK because they are 17 and not kids. You just further solidified my premise with what you wrote above, so I really hit the mark there.Where did I say it’s okay to hook up with a minor? But since you saw fit to bring up something totally outside of what was being discussed the age of consent in Ohio is 16. It goes as low as 13 dependent on the age of the other party.
I never claimed it was child porn. It's just sick and perverted on the part of the educators, no matter what level of education it is. Hell, it could be doctorate level classes and giving an assignment of writing about a sexual encounter would be sick and gross. If people want to do that in their own time, or read romance novels, or even become a famous smutty romance novel author, more power to them. I have absolutely no issue with that. Having that type of writing in an academic setting as a possible assignment is ****ing weird and gross. As previously stated it looks like someone didn’t thoroughly review the book. Regrettable but it ain’t child porn. People need to grow up.
Never said it did. I only said it's still gross and should result in people being fired. It could fall under a different type of sex crime though.Sure.
But nothing involved in this story meets the criteria of child porn.
LOL, that's hilarious. What crime would that be?Never said it did. I only said it's still gross and should result in people being fired. It could fall under a different type of sex crime though.
No one gave out an assignment to write about a sexual encounter...... I know you're enjoying being outraged about this thing...that didn't happen, but it never happened. When you became an apologist for someone handing out material that has writing a sexual encounter as part of it, passing it off as it being OK because they are 17 and not kids. The OP claim is that it is child porn. It is not. I am not being apologist I said it was idiotic. It just isn’t child porn. Do try to keep to the topic an actually read and understand what you are responding to.When you became an apologist for someone handing out material that has writing a sexual encounter as part of it, passing it off as it being OK because they are 17 and not kids. It doesn't have to be child porn for it to be depraved and possibly fall under some other sex crime. Again, you being an apologist for such actions has been noted. The OP claim is that it is child porn. It is not. I am not being apologist I said it was idiotic. It just isn’t child porn. Since you only seem to have a tenuous grasp of simple English I don’t see any point in banging my head against the wall any more tying to get you understand something a 3rd grader could. Do try to not not run around with a pair of scissors since you might hurt yourself. It doesn't have to be child porn for it to be depraved and possibly fall under some other sex crime. I remember getting ONE note from a female classmate in junior high, not exactly Miss Universe, but looking back, kind of attractive in her own way, and that note definitely would have lit a bomb under any school board if read aloud. I was too young, clumsy and dense to know how to handle myself but I'll just say that I kept that note for a few years and looked at it whenever I felt I needed a little boost to the old ego.I exchanged some pretty racy notes with girlfriends in high school and some that my friends wrote were even spicier. I guess we should have all been locked up.
Except nobody is doing that here.Even in Ohio. It may be over the age of consent, but it's still a minor. You're not a legal adult until 18. Further, even in states were the age of consent is 16 you're still sick if you're doing certain things with them.
There does actually have to be child porn for someone to be charged with distribution of child porn, though. It doesn't have to be child porn for it to be depraved and possibly fall under some other sex crime. Again, you being an apologist for such actions has been noted.
I haven't backpedaled anything. You should try reading what I wrote and not reading imaginary things. I never said it was child porn. There does actually have to be child porn for someone to be charged with distribution of child porn, though.
So, you've backpedaled to "depraved."
Thoughts?
It doesn't fall under any other law, IronsideIt doesn't have to be child porn for it to be depraved and possibly fall under some other sex crime. Again, you being an apologist for such actions has been noted.
And yet they ignore actual child abusers.
Matt Gaetz, Roy Moore etc get a pass for some reason.
