Its fustrating to me....

You can't afford lunch, yet your employer pays for your cell phone. Why don't you put your money where your mouth is and live up to the same standard you invent for them?

There is an assumption right there. I CAN afford lunch. I don't typically have to pay for it because my parents do. What kind of standards have I invented for them? Some have invented the standards that iphones come before food, so what? The government will pay for it.

LOL, Tucker that's funny but someone being supported by their parents (as they should be) is not the same thing as welfare. I think choosing to have a child means you should be obligated to support him, especially since he's not even legally allowed to work until he's 15.

What does that have to do with the fact that the kid hasn't earned any of the luxuries they enjoy?

So - let your parents off the hook, then, pay for your lunch since you're so successful. . . stop pretending as if you're not a child still living at home with your views.

You have invented standards. Your standard is apparently that someone should buy their own food before affording luxury goods. You've conviently added in that only if you're poor though. There's no difference between the government buying their food or your parents buying your food. Both of you are kids...both of you should not have to worry about buying your food.

Andrew you are coming across as spoiled and slightly vindictive.

Bull****. You can't afford ****. Not with some ****ty part-time job at 16. Your parents subsidize the living **** out of your existence. If they stopped supporting you, you wouldn't be able to afford a pot to piss in, let alone food.

I never said my boss gave me a phone as part of my job. I said my employer pays for my phone. Your scenario is one in a million. Needing an iphone is for work is one thing, so is working and buying an iphone, and having your free lunch. Like I said earlier, I have paid for my lunch some, with the money I make. You won't see me taking a free lunch.

IOW, your boss just gave you the phone, not because it's needed for your job, but because he's just a generous person

And you think this means that you "earned" it?

Does this apply to you as well? Are you only allowed to have luxury goods once you start paying for all of your necessities or are you given a free pass since your parents can afford them?

No, the rules are for other people, not Andrew

Listen, I had fun talking about this. I need to go do homework. I think some of you helped me view what my parents do for me. Thanks.

The employer shouldn't be paying for the cell phone if the kid cannot afford lunch, once again food is a necessity.

So now you want to tell employers what they can and can't pay for, Mr. Living Off My Parents Labor?

No YOU can't afford lunch; Your PARENTS can

I do laugh at the claims that I am spoiled. I consider myself lucky to have the family and things that I have. I don't know about spoiled though.

Gee, and you just got done telling us how you EARNED all those things; Now you're "lucky"

But God forbid a poor person get lucky. That's just wrong

Maybe, to his parents, he has. /shrug

Then I would blame the parents for instilling their child with an entitlement mentality due to their own flawed understanding on what it means to earn something.

I think that it's good to let kids know that the stuff they "earn" by doing such things as getting good grades or doing their chores is heavily subsidized by their parents. It gives them a more realistic idea of how society works.

You know what's funny to me? My initial thought when I read about his own phone was "why the **** would a 5th grader need a cell phone at all?"

I guess I have an old-timer mentality.

Don't worry I am 26 and share the same sentiment. If a child has a phone he better be earning that somehow...

Why? What's her exact situation? tell me about her home, her family, all of the resources she has available to her. then give me an identical accounting of your own situation so that I can make an accurate comparison. If you want me to take your word for it, you've got to give me something more than totally superficial information.

You are right, I don't have the facts on it but I can use deductive reasoning that she is gaming the system. She was lazy, obnoxious, and rude to customers, and I clearly remember after asking her to stay over because we were slammed and two people called, "Nuh-uh I need to make sure I get my mother****in welfare check." clocked out, and left. But yeah you are right I am just assuming.
