If Obama wins

Do you have evidence that Obama disrespects the constitution?
The GOP has been puting forth personhood bills which would ban some types of birth control. They also want to ban abortions without exception. I disagree with their clear obsession with what they are doing.

he changed the immigration laws without a congressional vote, a clear violation of the constitution. fast and furious --americans died in this illegal program.

of course the GOP will survive... what a silly question to ask.

GOP is on the way out Bob. Its the party of old whites, they're dyin' mate. Something reasonable needs to replace it.

Can the GOP survive?

Comments---------

IMO Obam will win

and the "GOP" itself will definitely survive but its mainstream make will change and rightfully so. Right now the squeakiest wheels are the extreme nutballs and partisan hacks of the party.

SO they will revamp like they have many times and the biggest voices will come more center-field instead of right-field stands

as for some of the other nonsense in this thread the country will be just fine, we handled 8 years of bush we can easily handle 8 years of Obama.

The country is so partisan right now id prefer obama get another 4 instead of the reps coming in and focusing to much on undoing and not moving forward and to much talking point fixes and not actual fixes.

What people should be thinking about is Hilary running in 16 and at this point I think she is going to win too.

are Ryan and Rubio old whites? is alan West an old white? Is Jindal an old white? How about Rand Paul? the number of members of he college republicans is at an all time high.

I started this thread to see what others thought, I think that the young conservatives will take over the party and kick the McCains out.

the name's not Bob... and i've heard the same old crap for decades... it hasn't even begun to come true.

these 2 parties are entrenched...and neither is going anywhere anytime soon.

I'd love for the Libertarian party to replace the GOP... but neither the GOP nor the Democratic party will allow that to happen, so meh.. it's a just a dream at this point.

I dont think the mcains are the issue by any stretch of the imagination

Has more to do with the population. Those that grew up in the 50's, 60's, early 70's are where conservative beliefs were entrenched, as they die off the kids that grew up in the late 70's, 80's, 90's will run the show, and they are radically different than them.

the libretarian party will always have an impossible hurdle to overcome, they have practices that would empower bigot, racists and discrimination. Notice I didnt say "support".

Now we could go round and round about it and people could say thats not what those practices do but it is and IMO thats how the vast majority of amercia would feel too.

I dont know if they can ever over come that huge hurdle.

theres other pros and cons but to much IMO for america to embrace on a large scale. They wouldnt mind picking and choosing little pieces here and there but I dount think they could handle the whole thing. Just my 2 cents

Bob, were you asleep during the liberal movement that forever changed the U.S. in the 60's? Conservatism died a bit back then, and it will die some more in the near future.

Honestly, they will survive, but it will be a huge blow imo. Obama is a weak candidate, and if the best the GOP can churn out is Romney, who in this scenario losses, then they will be certainly crippled.

no ,Harvey, I was very much awake...and i've watched both liberalism and conservatism change over the years.... and the GOP and Democratic parties are still here, moving right along.

you can hope and pray the GOP goes away all you like.. but it's just a fantasy.... they are too entrenched, as is the Democratic party ( i'm sure some of your political counterparts want nothing more than the Democrats going away too.. but that's a pipe dream as well)

Obama will win and the GOP will carry on in some form or another. Whether it will go forward with the same influence will depend on whether it learns its lessons from the last four years and the next four. As in '08 there will be many in the party who blame their fate on moderation. As with McCain, they will say that Romney failed because he's really a RINO and they would have won if only they had run a "REAL" conservative.

That, of course, is exactly the wrong lesson. The GOP is losing national elections because it has moved too far to the right -- not the other way around. The GOP needs to tone down the social issues and harsh rhetoric ("the country won't survive if Obama wins!!"). It needs to embrace issues that matter to minorities and women. Lip service isn't going to gitter done. And the GOP needs to embrace fiscal responsibility, which means prescribing both spending cuts and revenue hikes.

The country will suffer if the Tea Partiers and other far righters keep sending to Washington lame brains who don't get that compromise is good and necessary for progress.

bigots, racists, discrimination etc.. are already empowered .. hell, that **** is codified into our system, both by law, and by culture.

right now, I think the LP is a bit too " my way or the highway" to jump into the bigtime

won't matter much though, elections are run by the 2 major parties, and they aren't going to invite anyone to the dance unless they are forced to.

I know it's popular for liberals to utter the words "far right" non-stop... but the GOP is nowhere near as "far right" as you Democrat believe it to be.

the GOP is center right, the Dems are center left.. both are center-stupid.

1.) oh I agree they are out there and totally exist but its the taking away of the laws to limit thier blant on the surface act that wont sit well with america IMO

2.) I also agree with this because I have encountered some total nutballs here at BP that are LP and have the broken my way or the highway logic. BUT I think that too is present in the Dems and Reps, currently more so in the Reps but that is typical when the other party has the presidency. I think its the worse its been in my lifetime but whatever.

3.) this I also agree with and its a pipe dream but I just wish there wasnt parties at all or so many it didnt matter, thats what REAL people are anyway, thats what REAL society is.

The country will survive Obusha's second term. The GOP may be forced to re-examine their positions on social issues and focus on fiscal responsibility. Or we'll just keep on having a Democrat in the WH.

Initially Romney was a decent choice. He seemed smart and moderate but he has self-destructed by trying to appease the far right. If not for the moralization of the right, he might well have beaten Obusha who at best, has been uninspiring and ineffective despite his accomplishments.

The GOP could embrace Libertarian philosophies and thus make themselves desirable instead of downright scary. Can they? Will they? I'm hoping that my vote for Gary Johnson will help send the message (well, not just MY vote...).

The GOP is losing national elections? They have won 2 of the last 3. And what social issues does it need to tone down? Abortion? The country leans pro life. Gay marraige? It's 0 for 32.
There is plenty of harsh rhetoric coming out of the left.
The election is still Romney's to win. Obama has a hard core 47% support. Everyone else is looking for a reason not to vote for him. Don't sell Romney short.

They are about to lose their second straight national election. They won the last two by the skin of their teeth, over very weak Democratic opponents. So will have won four of the last six, and America's changing demographics will only make it harder for GOPers going forward ... unless they change their tune.

Abortion? Yes -- far too extreme. We should not even be having discussions about whether BIRTH CONTROL is allowable, or whether rape and incest victims should be forced to carry their abusers' babies. This is Dark Ages ****. Gay marriage is inevitable. Americans like Social Security and Medicare and don't appreciate being called parasites because of it.

There haven't been any discussions about wheteher birth control should be allowable. The discussion has been whether the government can coerce a religion to supply it to their employees when it violates their dogma. But I guess you don't think that denying someone's first amendment rights is extreme. Discussion of limits on abortion isn't dark ages its enlightenment now that technology has allowed a view within the womb and knowledge of when a fetus can feel pain No one has called anyone on Social Security or Medicare a parasite. And once again gay marraige is 0 for 32. How does that equate to inevitable?

The GOP should still control the House of Representatives, even if Obama wins.

If Obama wins this November, Republicans will win big in the midterm elections 2 years from now.

yes IMO its definitely insane to talk about banning or limiting birth control and morning after pills etc Same thing with the rape discussions absolutely nuts.

and yes Equal gay rights is inevitable, maybe next year, 5 years or longer but I give it 10 max. Equal rights will win of course thats the american way.

Yes, it is insane for Democrats to talk about banning or limiting birth control, because that is not happening.

http://www.nytimes.com/2011/10/26/u...-ban-nearly-all-abortions.html?pagewanted=all

The amendment in Mississippi would ban virtually all abortions, including those resulting from rape or incest. It would bar some birth control methods, including IUDs and “morning-after pills,” which prevent fertilized eggs from implanting in the uterus. It would also outlaw the destruction of embryos created in laboratories.

As for an accusation of rape, that doesn’t make someone a rapist. There would need to be a conviction for that. I can’t say if the woman’s story is true or not, but I do know that if Clinton was not convicted of rape, he isn’t a rapist.

The amendment has been endorsed by candidates for governor from both major parties, and it appears likely to pass, said W. Martin Wiseman, director of the John C. Stennis Institute of Government at Mississippi State University. Legal challenges would surely follow, but even if the amendment is ultimately declared unconstitutional, it could disrupt vital care, critics say, and force years of costly court battles.

You sure its just the GOP? I think you missed this quote in your source article.

he wont win.. but our country will be quickly sliding toward France and the USA that was the world beacon will be gone and all freedom loving people will be in peril.. the Jihad will go into a more active and violent period..

the GOP will survive as Liberalism is a failure

God I bet a giant asteroid will impact the Earth too, probably somewhere smack in the middle of Kansas, wiping out most of the US and allowing Mexico to annex the South West of the United States, all while Obama sits in the Oval Office, going 'lol' watching the news.

Romney on the other hand will have the foresight to build a giant space laser to take it out, and using his superhuman brain that made him a multimillionaire only by starting with selling dirt on the streets he'll blast the asteroid in such a way that the debris land squarely on our enemies, Tehran, Moscow, Beijing, Pyongyang. All the while he'll be all like "Pew pew pew lazers!!!! pew pew pew"
