I do, I really do.

I postponed upgrading my phone for about a year. I used a pay-go phone as mine, it worked great. It didn't try to force me into getting an account or setting up crap. It did what I wanted it to do - not the other way around. It had horrid memory space - so I bought a 16gb memory card that I used to transfer files back and forth between my comp and phone. I used it like a usb drive. It worked great.

Is it so wrong to want to do that? I don't think so. I want to be able to plug my phone into my computer and DIRECTLY transfer files - bang boom - done when I want it to be done.

But iphone thinks this is a horrid way for me to live. I still can't figure out how to transfer my text files to my phone. I've resorted to emailing them, it's less complicated than trying to sync my phone to my computer by having to ensure I have the same PROGRAMS (ok - lets stop calling them apps. They're ****ing PROGRAMS) on both. And I have an icloud account/PROGRAM account/itunes account and whatever else I'm 'supposed' to have.

They want to streamline everything - to where it's an extra pain in the butt. Just taking something directly from your computer and putting it on a phone shouldn't be complicated, involve internet access on comps (because my mini-laptop doesn't have it, and that's where I write most of my work), or require you to access multiple different accounts to just get a file there.

When I was in Oklahoma and transferred to this new phone I was instantly ****ed out of being able to submit my report because all I had was my mini laptop that didn't have net access and no way to fix it - I got screwed.

I hate this stupid phone - and when it's time for an upgrade I won't be getting one of these high tech pieces of stupid. . . so called the 'smart' phone.

On top of this - what I can DO on my phone (like clear the main screen of all application icons, be the one to dictate what files are stored where) is not even permitted. . . the damn thing was a waste of my money and it's a waste of my time. For the next two years I'll either have to tolerate it - or just buy a different phone out of pocket.

This is why I have a Droid. I don't need to belong to any kind of iWorld and I absolutely loath cloud services (I want to take actual possession of something I buy). I can directly transfer files to/from my phone without any special programs.

The only reason why I got it was because my husband and I wanted to be sure our phones were 100% compatible - he's had an iphone and I've had my glorious paygo . . . but his phone didn't recognize some files I'd send him, vice versa.

Huge mistake - next time it's his turn to downgrade.

Yeah - my phone was a paygo but it was a droid.

So - I've had to fuss with getting all of what I used on that phone somehow set up and working on my iphone. . .it doesn't even have a *menu* button - just like the mac computer itself it's so limited in what you're permitted to do it's useless.

After Windows 98 and the automobile upgrades of the 90's, I knew that the tech industry would be simply adding more useless features to anything mechanical as an excuse to increase costs. They also have planned obsolescence as part of their profit strategy. Every two years they upgrade everything TV's, PC's, Smartphones, Tablets, Kindles, Xbox, PlayStations, etc to get more purchases. Personally, I'm sick and tired of getting used to how a product works to only have to buy a new version and relearn everything. That's only fun when you're young.

If you want a good phone without a contract for a good price, search ebay for all the chinese sellers. You're going to laugh, but it's actually pretty badass. Most of the good sellers have like 50,000 ratings with 99.98% satisfaction rating, so you know you can trust it.

I have a knockoff of the Samsung Galaxy SIII, and though it's not quite the quality, it's still pretty amazing. I paid 60 bucks for it with free shipping. I use it to listen to spotify at work, works great.

Plus it's an android so you can modify it, and it's not sim locked so you can use any GSM provider.

I avoid the iPhone on general principle. There is no way in Hell I'm putting down two to five hundred dollars on a friggin' cell phone that tends to break the first time you drop or sit on it; especially when you have to purchase an equally expensive service plan and sign a contract of a year or more just to use the damn thing.

I picked up an LG Droid "smartphone" with a web browser and camera for less than one hundred bucks at Walmart a year ago. It runs off of a refillable pre-paid service card which I can pick up from any retailer and which grants unlimited minutes, texting, and web browsing for just forty dollars a month. It also allows me to discontinue my service whenever I want free of charge.

It's a tad slower than an iPhone, but I've never had reason to complain.

See - my husband, being computer illiterate, loves it. He doesn't USE it like I do. He watches videos, sends pictuers to people, and plays games.

I use it to stay on top of school and business.

I don't use it for music, youtube or anything else. Text files galore.

....that tends to break the first time you drop or sit on it....
First time? You mean you drop and/or sit on breakable things repeatedly? lol clumsy much? See if I ever let you hold my baby.

I've never had one. However, pretty much everyone I know who does own an iPhone has shattered the flimsy glass screen on it at least once.

Well there's another reason why I have a Droid: It's made with Gorilla Glass:

I also carry it in a front pocket of my jeans, or the left arm pocket of my ACUs.

I agree about the IPhone, but I have a quibble

They actually are applications. Programs are a sub-unit of applications. Most applications use many programs. Sometimes, thousands of programs.

Ok - so we can call them broad based programs. Most so called 'apps' don't function on a macros basis.

I abuse the crap out of mine, and it still works just as well as the day I bought it. I generally tend to go for durability over flash.

Not sure what you mean by function on a macro basis, but technically (IOW, no one but computer pgmrs really care) apps aren't "broad based programs"

But don't let it bother you (if it is). Like I said, only programmers really care about that terminology. And sometimes, even they don't care.

I waited my entire childhood for the Star Trek data-pad to appear in the real world, and now that's it's finally here, I'm not going to skimp on features.

I'll testify to being able to drop it (less than 10 minutes out of the store), sit on it (on a regular basis, I tote it around the office with me), and if you get one of those little covers, it will even survive a tidal wave of water (spilled the bottled water on my desk) so I've had pretty good luck with it.

My boss will testify that it will NOT survive being dropped in the toilet, lol. :lamo

I'm totally with you on Apple. But don't give up entirely. Android phones will let you do things like you want to.

I have to say I'm a fan of Dropbox and I like to use that, but when I've just had too many files to transfer and plugging it in was easier, I had no problem grabbing files that way. I don't even have to take out the memory card. I've done that in Windows and Linux and it works on both.

But you CAN just pop out the memory card. If you get an Android phone with removable memory, there's no problem with doing this.

I won't own an IPhone on principle, even if it's "better" than the competition.

But the reality is, it isn't better. It doesn't offer any major functionality I can't get elsewhere, and it offers lower quality on a side-by-side with Samsung, HTC, and possibly even the new Blackberry (though BB's got a lot of catching up to do with their bloated software).

No - it's not better.
Ok - so my husband and I can facetime with the kids while he's gone.

But apparently so can all the other phones.

Yeah, any phone that allows you to download Skype will do the same thing Facetime does.

Android is vastly superior to anything Apple does. I'd rather shoot myself in the face repeatedly than ever own an Apple product of any kind.

My X had...has...this bad habit of dropping phones in toilets. I mean, if it happens once, you're supposed to learn your lesson, right? Keep it in a different pocket, or whatever. But she never changed her ways.

I'm an android fan, but I'd definitely pick Apple over a bullet to the face.

I don't know why I did it - I just assumed that something as simple as attaching files to emails (which you cannot do when you compose an email with the email-program on the phone) and editing/saving/transfering text docs would be simple.

But Apple is full of a bunch of fuctards who forgot this basic ****
