CAIRO, June 15 (Reuters) - Egyptian President Mohamed Mursi said he had cut all diplomatic ties with Damascus on Saturday and called for a no-fly zone over Syria, pitching the most populous Arab state firmly against President Bashar al-Assad.
Addressing a rally called by Sunni Muslim clerics in Cairo, the Sunni Islamist head of state said: "We decided today to entirely break off relations with Syria and with the current Syrian regime."
He also warned Assad's allies in the Iranian-backed Lebanese Shi'ite militia Hezbollah to pull back from fighting in Syria.
"We stand against Hezbollah in its aggression against the Syrian people," Mursi said. "Hezbollah must leave Syria - these are serious words. There is no space or place for Hezbollah in Syria."

Moris shows that he is firmly against Assad. He is also calling for a no fly zone over Syria which would be very difficult to establish since Assad has a well established air defense system in his country.
That's really interesting. I wonder what he'll do if Iran either directly or indirectly does after Israel as part of a retaliation.
Well, MMC, I think understand the Salafist side of this but my concern is that a lot of these folks are VERY hard line and if they prevail that could cause a whole lot of trouble for secular interests in Turkey and, obviously, the Israeli's. Furthermore, we seem to be once again provisioning a people who do not have our interests in mind and when we've done this in the past it hasn't worked out terribly well.
The coming war.
Egypt, Libya, Turkey, Saudi Arabia, UAE, Yemen, USA, NATO, EU.
vs.
Iran, Syria, Hezbollah, Iraq.
I think Alistair Crooke gets the situation quite well in this interview

I note he hopes there may come a window of opportunity and believes that Russia is the country best suited to mediate that. I fear we have just seen that window and the recent US move may have finally sealed it.

Iraq's government is not too firmly in the pocket of Iran to betray the country that established it and supported it against insurgency until a year ago.
Iran is about to get the crap bombed out of it for other reasons and has been eating a big crap (thanks to sanctions) for a long time. It's in no position to fight a war against anyone, let alone the West. If Iran entered outright war against the West, the regime would cease to exist in a matter of days. That would leave Hez and Assad without Iranian support. It would also greatly weaken Hamas and terrorists in Africa, especially North Sudan and the remnants of Al Shabaab.
When the Iranian regime goes down, with it goes a large part of global terrorism. I eagerly await the destruction of that regime and a new tomorrow for the good people of Iran.
We helped Afghanistan defeat the Soviets.
How did THEY pay us back?
Most Islamist terrorism these days is committed by Sunnis, not Shia.

If you are not aware that the Iranian regime openly supplies Hamas, Hez, Assad, Bashir, Al Shabaab and other African terrorists, then you need to read more before we can debate.
So the road to Tehran lies through Damascus?
Now its all starting to come together.
I remember there was a guy here once, at debatepolitics, that was like "What?! If the Iranian regime openly supplied Hamas then everyone would abandon them!!!" When he was shown the Iranian regime and Hamas acknowledging significant support, Hamas thanking the Iranian regime and the Iranian regime promising continued support in many forms... he disappeared. I haven't seen the guy since. Weird.
Iran is Hamas' only source for money?
Are you against lessening Hamas' support?
Hamas gets money from various sources, including Saudi Arabia, Egypt, and Latin America.
I ask again: are you against lessening Hamas' support?
