Can you drive a stick?

Not only can I drive a stick, but a column-shift as well. I LOVE driving a stick! It is so much more fun. The only time I would prefer to own an automatic would be if I had to do a daily stop-and-go commute. Then, and only then, is an automatic a better option.

I love them, and would prefer one over automatic, but they are getting increasingly difficult to find in my experience.

My current car is a manual. I also learned to drive in a manual trans Jeep (hard-top, loose clutch, horrible shocks).

It's a nice skill to have, 'cause I drive pretty much any car currently running, but it can be a bit irritating when traffic sucks.

I can drive a stick. In fact it's all I've ever driven. My first car is a stick shift, and the one I own now is too. I'm debating heavily whether my next car will be or not. My morning commute frequently involves stop and go traffic, and a manual makes it more irritating. But I do love driving a stick shift a lot more than an automatic.

I don't like my main car to be a stick, but any time I've ever had a "fun" car or a "project" car, it's been a stick. I learned how to drive on a Chevy Chevette stick.

I have driven cars with a wide variety of shifting options...manual (including column shifters), automatics, semi-manual. Trucks with manual, automatic and semi-manual. Motorcycles with manual and semi-manual.

My current car...a 2010 Forester...can switch between automatic and semi-manual.

While I can enjoy a standard trans I would not want one for my everyday car. They have their place and that is sports cars and in some cases 4x4s but not in the family minivan.

No. There are things called automatics now..

I can't. I can ride a motorcycle, but I've never really driven a manual outside of a tractor. Though with the advent of Continuously Variable Transmission, the manual may be a thing of the past.

I live a backasswards life.

My two vehicles, a car and a truck, are both standards.

My motorcycle, a large scooter, is an automatic.

Most people own cars that are automatics and motorcycles that are standards, mine is the opposite. When I bought my new car I opted for the standard because its simpler and cheaper and I decide when it shifts. I like having that level of control.

I've driven a stick for my personal care for all but about 5 years of my life. I used to drive three on a tree for some of the trucks I used when I worked construction.

Of course. The question is...who can't???

Virtually yes  In real life no, but would like to learn, not for an everyday driver, but a nice sporty car to have fun in, hell yes would love it.

i can, but not very well because i've only gotten the chance to do it a few times. all of my cars have been auto; the latest has a techtronic clutchless manual mode, but that doesn't really count.

i do ride a motorcycle with a manual transmission, however, and wouldn't want an automatic. shifting is half the fun.

My mom, when in one of her better modes (which was rare) bought me this:

And said sarcastically:

If you can drive it out of the garage, it's yours. Now, I had never driven a 4 speed muscle car before. But I damn sure wanted this ride. So I did what the ball showed on the shifter. R meant reverse. That clutch thingy on the floor meant I had to use it, put it in R position, and hope like hell I didn't stutter it. I didn't. I drove away, went to the local pond and screamed my joy.

Same color as the pic. I loved that thing.

My first experience with a stick shift was a disaster. My dad bought a mid-60's Dodge Dart for me. It was a stick shift on the column, and he tried to teach me to drive it, which ended up with me in tears, and him feeling so bad for me that he gave me his big tank car to drive to school, and he drove the Dodge.
A few years later, I bought my first stick shift car- a mid-70's Toyota Corolla, and forced myself to learn. :)
That little Toyota stick shift started my love affair with manual transmissions.

I loved the stick shift my wife and I owned briefly. I drove it every day because she couldn't do it.

I want another, but alas....

Oddly - no. I use to but it's been so long. I wouldn't call that a latent tendency, either :)

My husband's car is a stick and I hate just riding in it - he thinks it's fun and I think it's a pain on my tits with all the stop-and-go and rough shifting .. . but his car's a tuner so it's made for speed, not grace.

How the hell am I supposed to drive a stick with a cellphone in one hand and a cup of coffee in the other?

My 3rd car was a 59 Corvette. Red and white w/rag and hard top. Wish I still had it. :(

Sorry, I forgot the 4 on the floor part. Oh well.
