A good border wall would devastate --------------

There must be some logical reason that democrats are against the wall. Any suggestions.

It does nothing to address the reasons illegal immigrants enter the US, and is less than effective when people smugglers are known to use sophisticated tunnels. Not to mention a significant amount of illegal immigrants overstay their visas, which a border wall would do nothing to prevent.

Actually, when all of these people are running away from their problems and wanting others to solve them, they're the ones keeping the problems around. Maybe if they stayed home and fought to improve conditions, they wouldn't have to run across the border in the first place.

Maybe. We can certainly talk about that. But that's getting off the topic of this thread. It still doesn't make a wall the best way to deal with it. There are more effective ways to control the border... I mean if you are actually interested in controlling the border and not just building a symbol which is the equivalent of sticking out your middle finger.

A good border wall would devastate drug and the sex trafficking business. Makes you wonder why democrats are so against it. Do they have a vested interest in these crimes?
A wal woul also keep out future Dem voters and that's the #1 reason Republicans are for it and Dems are against it.

VOTES & MORE IMPORTANTLY FUTURE VOTES!!!!!!!!

The most destructive lies ever witnessed in this country were uttered by Ted Kennedy on the Senate floor in 1965.

Ever since Ted Kennedy discovered that you could import democrat votes, the country started the long slide
down to 3rd world standards. After all, why work for your votes when you can get them by edict.

Illegal immigrants can't vote.

Oh please , everybody know the drill. They are going to get amnesty.

If they become American citizens, then they should be able to vote. If Republicans don't want legally immigrated American citizens to vote Democrat, then maybe they should rethink their immigration policies?

The problem is, it isn't off topic, it's a fundamental issue that a lot of people don't want to talk about. What would have happened if Revolutionary-era Americans had decided we were unhappy with British rule and had just run to someone else to protect us, rather than standing up and fighting, and for a lot of them, dying, for something they believed in? We'd still be a British colony. But instead of whining and crying that you don't have a perfect life and wanting someone else to make it all better, people need to get off their fat asses, stand on their own two feet and MAKE IT BETTER! It's why there's an economic migrant crisis. People want things, but they don't want to have to work hard to get those things. They don't want to have to fight to achieve those things. Because it's easier to go to people who have fought for them and demand they get a slice of the pie too.

What would have happened in Mexico if, for the last couple of generations, the people who are now fighting to get into America had just said "enough is enough" and done something about the cartels and the corrupt government? They'd be an economic powerhouse. But no, it's easier to stick your hand out and be lazy and expect others to do all the hard work for you. Liberals are fine with that. Conservatives are not.

Most of them don't want to become American citizens, if they did, they'd be following the rules required to do so. They want to be GIVEN citizenship, they don't want to have to earn it.

Everyone who is in this country is here because they thought they could make a better life for themselves here than trying to stay behind and fix the old country. That includes even the American Indians!

Most of them did so legally. Why do you think the illegals get to stay?

Not everyone in this country is here because they stayed and fought off British tyranny. Many came seeking refuge from really messed up places and situations, rather than trying to stay behind and fight it. Doesn't make them less American.

Einstein came to America because Hitler was in power and he became an American citizen in 1940 and renounced all other citizenships. And he earned his way while he was here. So... what was your point again?

Not if they're seeking asylum. People who are seeking asylum can't wait around in their home country, with no food no jobs and violent gangs and militias seeking to recruit their sons and rape their daughters, for the American immigration system to get around to their application. If it was a choice between that and illegally entering a free democratic country and requesting asylum, I'd choose the latter, no matter how many xenophobes called me a 'criminal invader.'

And that's different from today's asylum seekers because...?

And what did they do to fix their home countries? Anything? Because all they can do is *ASK* for asylum, no country is obligated to give it to them. Stop making excuses and admit that you're just running on emotion and not intellect.

He was invited and stayed legally?

Why didn't Einstein stay behind and fight for his freedom? He must not have been a real American. Just a liberal moocher, probably. Right?

I know about illegal aliens using boats - I live in San Diego. They get caught by Coast Guard at sea or LE when they land. Problem is boats have limited capacity - trying to move groups of 50-100 or more as is typical land tactical, requires a lot of boats.

It's a rather large coast and the coast guard is physically incapable of being everywhere at once.......and it is very much within the realm of possibility for groups to use decoys to draw attention away from the actual area where they are supposed to land.

Wait, asylum seekers have to be invited before they can be considered legal?

Einstein didn't sneak over the border, he came here legally, he didn't want to go back because of Hitler, he asked for permission and got it. That is not what happens today.

The law says you can show up anywhere on the border and request asylum. Not all get it. That's why Obama was known as the "deporter in chief".

To complete the thread title:A good border wall would devastate --------------
Trump hotel and resort businesses. How would he get his unauthorized immigrant employees?

And request it. Request. That doesn't mean they can cross the border and drop kids and pretend they own the place.

How so? This is why asylum seekers leave their home countries. It is the height of arrogance when conservatives assume that asylum seekers are just here to commit crimes and make a few dollars. What makes you think they did nothing to fix their home country? What makes you think families of laborers even have the power to fix a country run by criminal gangs or a dictator? What makes you think that they wouldn't rather be able to stay in their homeland and make it a better place?

And I never said the US is legally obligated to grant asylum to all asylum seekers. I would posit that the U.S. is morally obligated to consider all requests of asylum. I also would posit that I am running on intellect and common human decency, and you are running on misinformation and apathy.

If I had a construction company, I'd propose the "Trump Signature Wall". It would be Trump's signature, painted gold flakes. I bet my company would win the bid.
