A Barak Obama type of candidate for 2020?

Yes, the country does seem to be in the mood for a female, at least for Vice President. Another contributor to this thread mentioned one female politician whom he supports for a spot on the ticket.

IMHO, the country is doomed - we are given a choice of selecting between viable POTUS and congressional candidates from either the party for a bigger federal government or the party for a huge federal government. No matter which one wins the POTUS and/or a congressional majority the federal government will gain power and expense.

There is a debate about what natural born citizen means. But being born overseas or outside of U.S. borders didn't stop McCain, born in Panama, Goldwater, born in the Arizona Territory or George Romney, born in Mexico from running. Tammy's father was a Veteran during WWII and was working with refugees in Thailand when Tammy was born. Hence she was automatically a U.S. citizen.

Most, but not all constitutional lawyers view that being born of an American Parent even if it is overseas constitute being a natural born citizen. But until the SCOTUS rules on it, there will always be a debate. Being born of an American parent regardless of where one was born makes one a natural born citizen. At least in my opinion.

My son was born in Bangkok back in 1969 of a Thai Mother also. He was an automatic citizen. I had just finished an 2 1/2 years in Bangkok working at JUSMAGTHAI on Satorn Road. I was in Laos as part of Project 404 when he was born. Far as I'm concerned, he could run for president, so too Tammy Duckworth, as McCain, Goldwater and Mitt's father, George Romney did. That is until and if the SCOTUS would state differently.

Thank you. I just wasn't aware of her parents' status.

I think the Democrats will pick more of a Jimmy Carter-style candidate than a Barack Obama. I can see an outsider moderate having a lot of room to run up the middle in a field that promises to be crowded on the left. I'm thinking more along the lines of someone like John Hickenlooper, who is just ending his two terms as Governor of Colorado.... before that, he was Mayor of Denver for almost 8 years, so he has political experience. He's got a good track record as Governor.... and he started his own successful brewery, so he's got real-world business experience as well. Probably most importantly, now he's going to have time... he can spend the next two years running for President full-time while Warren, Harris, Booker & Co. have to divide their time between the campaign trail and DC. I think if Hickenlooper wins in Iowa, can finish a strong second to Warren in New Hampshire, and then go on to win South Carolina, he'd have enough momentum to win the nomination.

I think a ticket with Hickenlooper on top and someone like Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-OH) as VP would be pretty hard to beat.

I have just visited the POLITICO website.

1. It claims that many Dems want that Texas congressman Beto O'Rourke to run for president in 2020.

I think that he would win easily because he is similar to how Senator Obama was.

a. He is young
b. He is slender.
c. He is handsome (notice how many females give him adoring looks).
d. He is very liberal.
e. He is an inspiring speaker.

2. Politico also says that polls show that most people do NOT want President Trump to be impeached (and convicted), but most people DO want someone else in the White House starting in 2021.

I think that it is highly probable that President Trump will join Presidents George Herbert Walker Bush and James Carter as a one-term president. But what a one term it was! He has nothing to be ashamed of. He has and will have accomplished a lot of good things for our country.

Why do you think anybody wants another Obama in the White House?

None of your a - e descriptors make any difference in a Presidential candidate.

I am a female and I think he is as ugly as homemade sin. Look at the size of his nose! Lol

Didn't he hit and run DUI? Great leadership skills there!

I would agree that the prospect of Beto O'Rourke as the Democratic nominee would be outstanding for the party and for America.

But what a one term it was!

No kidding. A POTUS who publicly supported KKK and Neo Nazis. A POTUS who refused to show respect for America's heroes because his hair might have gotten wet. A POTUS who ran an entire election campaign designed to energize cowardly racists. A POTUS who became the laughing stock of the world, and made America the laughing stock as well.

Nobody will forget his administration for a long time.

He has nothing to be ashamed of.

Not to those who think publicly supporting the KKK and Neo Nazis is a good thing.

Hail Trump: White nationalists mark Trump win with Nazi salute

He has and will have accomplished a lot of good things for our country.

IF dividing the country, and normalizing racism, is an accomplishment, then yes indeed.

It would seem almost anyone would be better than Trump. All they have to do is not publicly support Neo Nazis, and not run a campaign designed to energize cowardly racists, and they'll already be a big improvement.

Trump has one and done written all over him. In fact, I would be surprised to see him even run.

Trump's style: declare victory and say he is retiring to spend more time with his family.

Kind of goes against the manifesto of Marxism doesn't it. Capitalism and wealthy bad.

You certainly are obsessed with Marxism. It appears to be a common theme of yours, something seen in nearly every thread.

I agree with all of your points and yes, Dems and liberals far and wide will get all melty inside for all of the reasons you mentioned, because they are emotionally driven and prefer feel-good ideological gobbledegook in lieu of dealing with hard facts, hard work and not depending on government for everything.

Republicans are in the grip of worshiping a cult of personality. So you can dispense with projecting about "feel-good ideological gobbledegook" nonsense.

It's hard to imagine suggesting a candidate less qualified than Obama, but here you go.

I was ready to give you a "like" and then I read your last sentence. trump has done more to stoke irrational fear and bigotry than any president ever. Good riddance in 2020!

I'm not a fan of the idea of him running for prez in 2020. What I would like to see is the DNC up and boot out Tom Perez and possibly put Beto there.

Trump has one and done written all over him. In fact, I would be surprised to see him even run.

Trump's style: declare victory and say he is retiring to spend more time with his family.

Actually I see him running he loves the crowds and rallies. Unless someone convinces him that he can still hold rallies all over the country and his people will pay to get in he's not going to do anything but run again.
What I see happening is a lot of crazy accusations of voter fraud rampant violence, people with guns at polling places and if he loses him refusing to leave the whitehouse.

That (bolded above) is not a difficult task so even the DNC should be able to manage it after "What Happened". The republicants are likely stuck with Trump in 2020 (age 74, has a bad comb-over and insults everyone who dares to question his 'facts') so the mission, as you have described it, is certainly doable.

Agreed. The question is, do they know it too.

Beating Trump should be incredibly easy with the right candidate.

I disagree beating Trump will not be easy. His cult is hardcore. No matter what he does that 30-40% will support him. The key is get people to actually vote.

Keep in mind that Trump is:

a. Oldest POTUS (when elected) in US history.
b. Overweight if not obese.
c. Has a terrible comb-over.
d. Has raised the federal deficit every year in office.
e. Often utters contradictory nonsense in sentence fragments.

Okay, okay. I actually like his comb-over though. Now, personally I have a lot of hair. Lot of hair. But if I didn't, I'd like for Trump to show me exactly how he achieves that thing there. It almost defines gravity. And if we're going to judge hair, we can take some solace in the fact that Trump's hair looks better as it is than Kim Jong Un's any day.

They can't convince his cult not to vote for him anymore than they could convince Jim Jones's cult not to guzzle Cyanide laced Kool-Aid. Luckily his cult only makes up about 35% of the voters. The other 65% are smarter.

He's an idiot
He's got nothing to run on but bull****
He's a socialist twit
Heaven forbid we elect another fool who has no ideas, thinks Government is the answer moron

LOL, the academically-bereft newspeak du jour. Do you really think anyone takes this gobbledegook seriously? Pfft. Trump's supporters have been called "cult" for so long now, it's just white noise.

Find another buzzy word with which to wield with the certainty that it actually means something tangible.

Nope, but they were better located to cause an EC Trump win. After all, Hillary won the popular vote - which is very scary.

Scary? Not really, when you consider what she was running against. I voted fro Johnson, but I would absolutely vote for her, as ghastly as she is, over Trump if the election in 2020 was the same as it was in 2016.

Trump better start changing his adult diaper soon. Some of those states he won don't look promising at all for the GOP in 2020. Look at the disaster in Wisconsin.

It is what it is. Sorry. Don't want to be in a cult? Then go deprogram yourself.

I also voted for Johnson in the 2016 general election (Rubio in the TX primary). There is no way that I would vote for Hillary who stands for absolutely nothing but cashing in on having government power.
