Who is the most famous person you've ever met?

Every now and then, a bunch of us would share coffee with Telly Savalas at a local diner when we all happened to be there at the same time.

I've met quite a number of famous people through work and my Dad's work, and got to hang out backstage with a number of music groups, including Kiss, Wet Willie, Bachman Turner Overdrive and a couple of others.

Joe Cocker - when I was 16 and but a new bass guitar at Manny's in NYC. He was doing an impromptu bit of singing backed by the staff and I got to sit in on a tune.

Joe Namath quarterback of the 69 Jets - at at catering hall my mom was working at at the time

Both Bobby Murcer and Thurman Munson of the mid 70s NY Yankees who were signing autographs after a game.

Steven Tyler of Aerosmith at LaGuardia Airport.

One of my friends briefly dated the granddaughter of Carlo Gambino, then the reputed head of the Gambino crime family.

Jose Feliciano came into the car rental agency I was working at rent a car (someone else was driving) and led a singalong for the staff. We did "You Know She Makes My Brown Eyes Blue" as "You Know She Turned My Poor Balls Blue"

Farrah Fawcett and Ryan O'Neil while having dinner at the old Luchow's on 14st in NYC.

Skied a run with and sat at the next table (in an otherwise empty restaurant) to Sir Richard Branson in Zermatt Switzerland.

Ran into celebrity chef Bobby Flay on the #2 train a couple of months ago.

It doesn't matter if Kerry is wind surfing, in front of Congress back stabbing the American soldier, on a swift boat or in Afghanistan, he always looks like a class act dork.

you should celebrate others' accomplishments, not be envious ...

I met Angela Davis a couple of times while at Berkeley, at her guest lectures. I was expecting a Grade A racist feminazi super asshole the first time, but she was actually a very pleasant and nice person and intelligent, also a surprise; most political types are profoundly stupid as a rule, regardless of lean. Peter Camejo is also interesting to meet as well. I've met a lot of famous people over the years, but the most memorable and my favorite was Buddy Hackett; he was my favorite comedian before I met him, and more so afterwards; he kept me and my wife in total hysterics most of the way from Las Vegas to New York.

I met Jerry Lewis when I was a little kid and later as an adult spent about 6 months in Burbank, CA and somehow managed to miss every celebrity other than Kato Kaelin.

I have a photo that I treasure that was taken in my office with Paul Newman. Also met and talked with the Duke and Duchess of Luxembourg. :wow:

Good morning, JC. :2wave:

When I worked as a Herballife distributor some time ago I met 2 VIPs that were multimillionaires. From one I have an autograph and from the other i sat down at dinner since I won a competition.
I met Florin Talpes, CEO of Bitdefender antivirus when I attended a conference he held at my university. Asked him a question, said it was a good one, so that counts.
I met 2 mayors of my city, with 1 I shook hands at the opening of an event organized by the NGO I was part of. I was also part of the main team who organized it so yeah.

Internationally known celebrities, well, if you count the CEO of Bitdefender, then that's that. I think, I can't remember anyone else.

John Edwards - Short...I mean dwarfishly short
Trick Pony (Keith Burns, Ira Dean, Heidi Newfield) - Awesome people
Darrell Waltrip - You can't get this guy to shut up...you just can't do it.

(Sigh)

Never really met anyone.

Walked past Madonna in a club in LA once.

My friends and I were each bought a drink by Bruce Willis in Sun Valley, I think because we looked like we were having a great time (we were the only ones dancing to the DJ music, and laughing, joking etc). Everyone else might as well have been furniture. One of our group went over to thank him, and of course we all toasted him from afar.

I am afraid I would find it hard to be at ease chatting with someone famous, so I am very ambivalent about meeting anyone who is. I think it would be uncomfortable for both of us. I am going to meet a fairly well known author in about a week, and will actually be spending quite a significant amount of time for several days, in all likelihood. That shouldn't be too bad. There will be a lot of other people around, too.

I also recalled something else. When they were really little, it was almost like reality shows are filmed today. They would just set up situations and a lot of it was just kids doing whatever kids would do in that situation and they would create a storyline out of it since the little kids couldn't remember their lines at that age.

I hadn't heard that from all the actors, but I know they did that with Spanky. His screentest was actually turned into his first short, appropriately called "Spanky." It was the one where he was a baby, and he was trying to kill a bug with a hammer? Adorable.

To the best of my recollection:

As Capt. A said, I worked for the BBC, Discovery Channel and Sky TV for 20 years. I worked on a lot of entertainment, music and documentary shows and for a long spell at BBC TV Centre (RIP) where everyone who was anyone who tipped up in the UK would come at some point. Right place at the right time, nothing more.

Gavin Rossdale, I think.

How was Kathy Bates? Did you get a chance to talk to her at all? What about Adam Sandler, or Melissa McCarthy? I like all of them - a lot. It'd break my heart if I found out they were a-holes.

Rossdale. That's it. I met all the people you mentioned when I was managing a restaurant in Hollywood. Gwen and Gavin were very friendly and chatty. They were there for a late lunch and were the only people in the building. They ended up asking me a bunch of questions about wine, the Sicilian mural we had on the wall, Italian food in general, etc, etc. Kathy Bates was friendly but in a more businesslike "I'm just here for a meal" kind of way. Melissa McCarthy seemed very nice, but she was in the middle of a meeting in our wine cellar room, so I didn't really have the opportunity to talk to her. Adam Sandler was hilariously drunk on Valentine's Day. Nice guy, but drunk.

During high school I worked at the Music Circus in Sacramento. Met and worked with the older generation's stars of the day every week. Phyllis Diller, MaryAnne Mobley, Vicki Carr, and even a couple of the older Barrymores. Later in life I spent time running the Clark Hatch at Poipu Beach on Kauai where I met George Peppard, Susan Summers, also did the calf training for bodybuilders and worked with Alan Ichinose the then Hawaiian bodubuilding champ.

In politics, my father was Sgt At Arms for the CA legislature and he struck up a friendship with the Governor. My Mom has pics of us as boys with Governor Pat Brown when he used to come by for dinner. And of course I've met my senators and representative (federal and state).
