What if a Republican said this?

I read it and knew that would be the response of some. My point is that the conservatives lob an assault and the liberals lob back a defense and so on and so forth into infinity. I'll give you that I did not make that point very well. My real point is the statement that follows. I don't care and do not listen to the petty insults, it is distracting blather that keeps all of us distracted from real issues and ultimately from real solutions.
I know ... you're above it all ... until you're not.

The difference is Republicans are stupid. You're confusing slips of the tongue with the kind of profound ignorance and intellectual laziness of Palin or Issa or Cruz.

And thus you've proved again how stupid Republicans are.

Not true. Plenty of repubs have had their comments made fun of even though they were nothing more than slips of the tongue. An example would be bush*'s "misunderestimated" comment.

It's not rocket science. There is no complicated formula. The press makes fun of statements that are funny.

"I know how hard it is for you to put food on your family."

Holy cow ... the lefties sure gave up on their gaffe machine quick.
"It's no big deal" is always the final resort.
At least they can still buck themselves up by repeating the "phony scandal" meme.

the only reason that this gaffe is being discussed is because some people are trying to compare the medias reaction to Obama's gaffe to the ones made by Palin back in 2008.

the difference between Palins comments in 2008 and Obama's comment, is that Palin was considered a unknown to most people, and she was trying to make a first impression.

My bad. Didn't realize that a 'gaffe' was the point of your original post.

My answer in that case is that anyone that talks so much in public makes tens (hundreds?) of stupid gaffes. This is not party specific and using these gaffes as ammo is most certainly not party specific - just a bit immature.

you still don't realize the point it is not about the gaff i could care less. it is about the double standard in the lame stream media
Sara Palin had a mental block when asked what books she read and the media ran with that for weeks to establish a narrative that she is ignorant. Obama makes 10 times worse gaffs and 10 times more and the media ignores them and pushes the narrative how smart he is

... and this guy is the President.
Okay ... if it makes you happier ... Palin's gaffes were funny and Obama's series of gaffes before a national audience is inexcusable.

"we need to deepen “our ports all along the Gulf — in places like Charleston, South Carolina, or Savannah, Georgia, or Jacksonville, Florida.”

we would have endless threads saying how stupid republicans are. It would be on the evening news every night for a week. it would be the blunt of jokes by comedians and left wing opinion shows for months. It would be used by democrats in their campaign commercials. But because Obama said it it gets swept under the rug hoping no one noticed

You're on the verge of a triple play. One day I see a time when conservatives can attack, play the victim card and play the race card all in one sentence. We will refer to it as full-retard and it will take over the world.

Your case of CPC is as bad as I've ever seen. And I've seen some pretty bad cases around here.

If a Republican had said it, we'd be scheduling the crucifixion. Hanging's too good for them. OK? Is that what you wanted to hear?

Slips of the tongue are just slips of the tongue that anybody will make if they talk enough (though Bush's pattern of malapropism demonstrates a kind of intellectual laziness that goes beyond a mispronunciation or two -- there's even a book about it that's quite illuminating "The Bush Dyslexicon" by Mark Miller -- and of course his bragging that he didn't read newspapers only reinforced this knownothingism).

Minor mistakes of fact are OK too, unless of course like Bachmann you wear the superpatriot mantle and claim librals are untutored in American history, and then you confuse the Concords that involved the shot heard round the world.

Other mistakes are, however, significant and involve a depressing worldview of knownothingism that should be rejected. Todd Akin's "legitimate rape" comment wasn't just biologically false; it involved a bizarre worldview where women really want to get raped down deep.

All in all, Republicans fall squarely in this last category.

I know ... you're above it all ... until you're not.

I'm saying I genuinely try. I don't always succeed, but I do genuinely try. People, left and right, are passionate about these issues because they share a concern about and respect for their country and their fellow man. You guys slip and and get ****ty, we slip up and get ****ty but at least if you continue to make the effort and continue to forgive someone for being human then there is at least a little hope.

Good lord there's alot of whining going on here.

Now i want you to answer what is missing from the article

No where does it mention Bob Filner is a Democrat if it was a republican the head line would have been

It hasn't stopped since Obama handed Romney his backside last November.

Some people don't take defeat well.

And the left doesn't whine about Fox news? hell they whine so much about Fox they made a tax except organization that its soul purpose is to whine about Fox news

Considering how he said that he had done 57 states with one to go in 2008, politicians will always say stupid things, the problem is that republicans normally say stupid things about high profile issues, such as abortion (and that guy who talked about the shutting down). Whereas deepening ports along the gulf isn't exactly No.1 on Americas list of things to do.

He won't get called on it because his base doesn't know where Charleston and Savannah are either. These places are in the south, for liberals they might as well be on the moon.

Now don't get your panties in a twist, I never said Libs don't whine. Why do you guys always resort the "I know you are but what am I..." defense.

Just had to keep piling it on, huh?

I mean, if he were gay and black they'd be lionizing him. When are straight white people going to get a fair shake in this country?

its not about Obama or Romney it is the problem with the majority of the Media promoting one political party and influencing elections by doing so. If you don't think that is a problem just reverse it and have the majority of the media lean right and influence the election towards republicans would you be saying the same thing

we have a major problem with media bias in this country that even a liberal college like UCLA says so

If you are referring to "I can see Russia from my house" she never even said it. That was Tina Fey on SNL. I saw the episode, it was friggin hilarious. Her Palin character was probably the funniest political impersonation ever. Well maybe. Dana Carvey doing Bush senior was awesome too.

But the closest Palin came to this comment was stating that you can see parts of Russia from some places in Alaska, which is true. What was truly disappointing is that it was attributed to Palin herself, and nobody in the media or the primaries bothered to check up on it. To this day there are people here on this forum who will insist it was Palin.

You can see one tiny little bit of Russia from a very, very small island. On a clear day. If you squint really hard. Other than that, you can't see Russia from Alaska at all, and even if you could, that part of Russia is about the same distance from Moscow as New York is.

For my money, Phil Hartman as Clinton was the best. I liked Carvey's Perot better than his Bush.

Charles Gibson asked her what insight she had gained from living so close to Russia, and she responded: "They're our next-door neighbors, and you can actually see Russia from land here in Alaska, from an island in Alaska":

She was mocked because it is stupid to think that merely seeing a part of Russia gives on "insight" into Russia

This was the same interview in which she responded to the question "Do you agree with the Bush Doctrine?" with "In what sense?"

It's incredibly unlikely that Palin ever visited Little Diomede Island anyway. I'd sooner believe Obama visiting Minot, ND.
