I understand the sentiment but the judges were pretty clear this was not and should not be read as a defeat for trans people's rights. We haven't subscribed to the same culture wars that exist and grip American politics. Lord hodge added this today "the legislation gives transgender people "protection, not only against discrimination through the protected characteristic of gender reassignment, but also against direct discrimination, indirect discrimination and harassment in substance in their acquired gender".

That is not going to change here in the UK. What will happen though and this was brought by what has recently happened in Scotland is that women's safe spaces are to be protected. That may and should also mean safe spaces for transgender people will need to be separately established and protected.

The whole reason was because trans people needed a safe space to begin with and they were using the bathroom of their gender without much issue until TERFs came along. so im not sure i buy the mote and bailey argument about safe spaces. Like what is even the point then of recognizing trans women then? The entire ruling negates any recognition of trans women and only gives a kind of useless consolation? Im confused about how this isnt erasure but its not the worst thing in the world thanks.

Like ok we’re going to let you do what you want but we’re still going to call you a liar at every opportunity when you are trying to go to the bathroom and still force bodybuilding trans men in women’s bathrooms and trans women who look like women to use the mens where they will just get beaten up?
