[h=1]Santorum backs nullifying existing gay marriages[/h]
There are 18,000 married gay and lesbian couples in California and at least 131,000 nationwide according to the 2010 census, conducted before New York state legalized same-sex marriage in July.
Rick Santorum says he'll try to unmarry all of them if he's elected president.
Once the U.S. Constitution is amended to prohibit same-gender marriages, "their marriage would be invalid," the former Pennsylvania senator said Dec. 30 in an NBC News interview.
"We can't have 50 different marriage laws in this country," he said. "You have to have one marriage law."
The comments didn't attract nearly as much attention as Santorum's recent invocation of his Catholic faith to denounce government support for birth control, prenatal testing and resource conservation - which, in the last case, he attributed to President Obama's "phony theology."
But his declared intention to nullify past as well as future same-sex marriages has reinforced his position to the right of the other Republican contenders, even though each of them has also voiced fervent support for traditional unions.
This guy is so ****ing crazy... I cant believe people actually support this nut job. This man is a theocratic ass hole. I for one do not want America to be some sort of Theocratic Christian country. I cant believe he has a base of support.

Thoughts?
Commments?
REsponse?

The constitution is not going to be amended to make SSM illegal, nor is Santorum going to be president. I am therefore unconcerned.

Oh man look at that. Santorum is saying things to get people to vote for him, but knows he cannot do with the make up of Congress. What a politician.

Santorum has a better chance of building the first catholic mega-church on the Sun.

What a gosh-darned ****.

Yep. He's appealing to his primary base.

Makes me wonder what he'll say if he gets the nomination and suddenly has to start appealing to the swing voters who decide the general election.

I dream of the day where political psychopaths like Santorum will disappear.

anyone have the transcript to the interview?... i haven't found it yet....if we are going to bash on him for something he may have said, it's imperative that we make sure it was actually said .

i'm not taking the word of any journalist on any candidate this go around... too many have proven themselves to be ..umm.. manipulators of the truth.

Yes... We really need a journalist to tell us that Rick Santorum wants to ban gay marriage and repeal the last 30 years of gay civil rights. Do us all a favor and switch your lean to "Conservative". This is the guy who equates same sex marriage to incest. Pretend you're politically honest for 60 seconds and open your eyes.

I don't think it's a viable federal issue, so why be worried if Santorum is prez?

odd, I don't recall asking for his stance on issues.. i asked for a transcript of the interview.. and interview that supposedly has some very specific claims and details about his stance... do you understand the difference between what i asked and what you delivered?

i'm well acquainted with his positions... i'm well acquainted with the position of nearly all the presidential candidates... which is why i won't be voting for any of the Republicans or Obama.

and if it's alright with you, i'll go ahead and be honest and keep my lean the way it is... I do, however, understand how some liberals upset when asking for verification of articles that they really really like and agree with... but that doesn't make me a conservative... it makes me interested in the truth.

maybe one day you ,too, can become interested in verifying the truth of matters...I promise I won't attack you or imply that you are a liar when/if you decide to do so.... i'm not an asshole like that.

Santorum is a meaningless blip on the radar of life. He will go away along with his bigotry.

"I don't support gay marriage despite being a Conservative. I support gay marriage because I'm a Conservative." David Cameron, British Prime Minister and right wing politician.

If you look closely, you will see I used the word unconcerned. That suggests rather strongly I am not worried.

I dream of the day where political psychopaths like Santorum will disappear.

Most of the Libbos would have to go with him, if that happened.

I like how Santorum's big "if" is his election, not the passing of a constitutional amendment taking away people's rights. If Bush couldn't do it when America wasn't fed up with religious fear mongering, what chance does a little bug like Santorum have in getting such an amendment passed now?

Jeez, since when does the president have the authority to amend the constitution?

That being said, it would have been nice if the article could have link some kind of source to the original interview.

Actually, I found the interview:
Santorum Interview

12 minutes in.

I disagree with Santorum, I disagree with passing a marriage amendment to the constitution, but I have no issue in a generalized sense in that this is the method he'd go to "Nullify" them. I'd have a more significant issue if he was suggesting going about it in some sort of unconstitutional way.

From the tone, it seemed as though he said it would be an unfortunate consequence, not his intended purpose. Kind of the opposite as implied by the article.

I'd like to see the transcript too just for the sake of clarification.

"We can't have 50 different marriage laws in this country," he said. "You have to have one marriage law."

LOL... Republicans are always screaming states should determine their own destiny, except when it comes to marriage?

In the taped interview he wants a marriage amendment for all 50 states, then goes on to say how unfair the abortion law is where they've taken it away from the public.
