I insulted her statement, because she's an idiot.

These aren't people fleeing genocide, they aren't fleeing for "Asylum" they are GIMMIEGRANTS, wanting to come here where people like you and HER would gladly hand over American Tax payer monies to them.

She said it's not illegal for the to ask to be considered and to apply. She hasn't said, to my knowledge, that they must be accepted or that every single person that applies needs to qualify. So pointing out that some of them are just coming for a better life doesn't show her to be wrong in any way. You really need to learn to be able to discuss these topics logically and rationally. You're coming across as though you have steam shooting from your ears simply because she said that it's not illegal for people to apply. It's not a good look.

It's pretty awesome actually. She's thanked the nutjob rightwing and their media for targeting her because it's free advertisement for her stances helping her reach people she'd never have otherwise been able to reach.

The OP is basically doing the typical republican thing and clipping what they can and then labeling and name calling that label hoping and praying that is all it will take to dismiss her. It won't work.

Unfortunately, they are giving her what all our major news networks give Trump. Even if MSNBC and CCNN is negative about Trump (because he is that ridiculous) all the free news time helps him. Helped her, but she is smart enough to become a force. I'll grant them she is naive and has some silly notions, but she is sharp enough she will overcome all that. He's such a collosal idiot, he will ruin what should be an easy layup.

It's hard to tell what you are saying given all the outburts and histrionics . I've yet to see you point to a sentence she said and a reason to be outraged or a reason that she is incorrect without completely twisting what she said. And I have no idea how you are claiming that I am the one that isn't accurately representing her statement. Lets take a look:

Those are her statements that you posted and my only two comments on what she said/meant. Please point to the exact part where I am twisting what she said.

The reason being that by far they are too stupid to even begin to understand the differences, too lazy to learn them and scaring people is about the only thing they can do due to limited education and intellect.

If she had "simple said it's not illegal", it would be an obvious truth without a point. When she started making a moral comparison the genocide of the Jews (etc.) she went from pointless to odious stupidity.

Are you, like Ms. OC, an airhead to the meaning of the holocaust? Up too two-thirds of all European Jewery (6 million) were systematically murdered in the death camps and ghettos, and at least as many slavs and others joined them. The were worked, starved, gassed, and shot to death in just 4 years. Not only were Jews targeted for the final solution, but so were the Roma , Jehovah's Witnesses, ethnic Poles, and Russians (slavs). Up to 17 million deaths overall.

The enormity of the killing machine and resulting genocide is almost impossible to imagine. For OC to indirectly belittle the Jewish (and other) victims of genocide and their plight by comparing it to some unemployed noisy young border crashers beggers one's imagination.

It's perfectly legal for someone to cross the border illegally and then request asylum.

They don't have to use the specified port of entry.

It just makes things easier for everyone involved.

Anyone notice that those that have the least in common with a junior Congress person elect 1 of 435 know everything about her and hang on her every word?
I find it quite funny I'm left leaning and have only seen this Congress person speak maybe 2xs everything else I know about her I read here from right wingers.
I guess I should absolutely love her since she seems to get the other sides blood boiling...its kinda funny.

I don't see how she said anything controversial about her statement, and you're really not presenting an argument other than calling her stupid.

Americans did refuse many Jewish refugees. They were very desperate people. I recently read 50 Children about an American couples mission to rescue 50 Jewish children before being sent to concentration camps. They had to jump through so many legal hoops to get the children to America, and show financial evidence that they would take care of the children because American tax payers didn't want anything to do with it. Their parents though, were so desperate and afraid, that they gave their children to complete strangers to live in a far away country they knew little to nothing about. Most of their parents died.

That's one of many books that I read.

I know my history, and I don't think what she said was controversial or stupid.

This is not actually true. It's still not legal to cross the border. It just tends to be forgiven IF asylum is granted. Also, most cases of this happening (that I have read about) have the person or group crossing detained until the request is processed.

Trump has cut down the number of asylum seekers allowed into the country. You can say he has nothing against them all you like, but facts speak louder than words. He has been calling them criminals, invaders, and breeders. He sent the US military to the boarder and told them to use deadly force. People have aright to apply for asylum, and he doesn't even want to let them inside America while their application is pending. I think Trump and his supporters prefer they never cross into America, legally or illegally.

She didnt make a moral comparison. She made a comparison based on legality. At no point did she say that the violence these people are fleeing is the same as nazi germany. You are pulling that out of no where. So you can hold the silly indignation and reserve it for someone else. Im not accepting gifts today :)

Wrong. As I stated, Ms. OC chose these examples to make an INDIRECT moral comparison - her tweet makes NO SENSE structurally except when viewed in this light.

The complaint that "they aren't breaking the law to ask for asylum" has not in dispute and its a Ms. OC red herring to pretend it was. So on its face, she makes a dumb illustrative comparison for a non-issue.

Why? Well, we know the purpose could not to make a legal comparison. The normal structure of a legal comparison is arguing that if X (presumably less deserving or qualified) had the benefit of the law then so should Y (presumably more deserving and qualified). However, she argued the opposite - implying that if the most deserving and qualified (Jewish genocidal victims) benefited then it followed that those least deserving and qualified (non-genocidal migrants) should also be benefited?

She wasn't all that clever in her gambit, and the answer should be gob-smacking obvious to you; she was attempting to make a "likewise" moral equivalency, using the Holocaust as somehow "likewise event" to that experience of the caravanners.

Therefore, her actual (transparent) purpose is to associate them as equally deserving, ignoring the chasm of moral and legal difference between the two.

You know that. But if your denial won't let you see it, I'll be more than happy to break it down word by word.
