You could have done great stand-up on the "St. Louis," the 1930s ship carrying Jews refused landing in the US and elsewhere and was sent back to Europe, leading to the deaths of many of its passengers.
"Take my wife... please. To the island. What's it called, "'Max's Parrish?'"
But credit is due. Hope the children are looking in. Not often they will get to read in a few spare paragraphs thoughts that suggest ignorance, lawbreaking, heartlessness and bigotry clearly combined so succinctly.
Were they put on an island under American control, they would have been blessed compared to returning to Germany. On the other hand, not a phony story in the bunch - obviously. Heck, even Honduras would have looked like heaven.
