Yes, the physical may be what initially attracts us to another person. However, there are certain NON-physical attributes which in a lot of ways, are much more important to us to determine someone's sexiness.

What are those NON-physical attributes for you?

Intelligence, wit, confidence (not to be confused with arrogance - there is a difference) and attentiveness(an active participant in relationship building for both individuals).

Those are the biggest ones for me - what are yours?

I really find a smart funny woman sexy, no matter how mean she is.

Intelligence.

All else is negotiable.

I find nothing to be less congenial than a witling.

Intelligence, a sense of humor, but most of all, passion, a passion for life is the most attractive thing to me.

Humility
Humor
Kindness
Compassion
Intelligence
Wisdom
Loyalty
Family

Wealth and status of course.

intelligence, and interest in the theoretical. while it's sometimes nice to discuss the immediate, i want to be able to bounce ideas off of someone, also.

someone with a sense of humor about when i briefly turn into rain man if i'm forced to significantly modify what i'm used to. i'm not overly rigid, but i have a little difficulty going with the flow.

I tend to identify many female facets that I like and are always different from one another when the physical qualities are covered first.

Confidence. Above all other traits, confidence.

The willingness to be yourself even though you know that others may see you differently and to truly accept that. Being comfortable with yourself but not fully satisfied with the results. You look people in the eyes when you talk to them; you smile and mean it; you genuinely care about your fellow travelers in life; you have more opinions and preferences than you do "laws" and you know the difference. You are proud of who you are but you wear that pride more like a bracelet than a tiara.

All the rest of the stuff is window dressing. Intelligence is relative depending on who you're talking to. Wit is often offset by cleavage. Loyalty too often turns into leg humping.

Come to think of it, hygiene is also right up there. It takes a whole lot of confidence to offset nasty teeth and general funk.

To be honest, I don't really know. I can't put my finger on it. I either feel a physical attraction towards someone, or I don't. It's definitely something, I'm just not sure what. ;)

Does it happen to have anything to do with baldness or middle age? If so I know a few experiments we can run.

Humor, some smarts, and independence in no particular order.

:lamo Middle-aged is fine. Bald can be sexy depending on your head shape.

Humor (twisted is fine), intelligence (not necessarily relagated to book intelligence), common sense, self-confidence (no swaggering, please).

A tee shirt and a pair of well-worn jeans is a plus.

Intelligence, a dark sense of humor and cynical streak, and someone with a passion for some type of hobby or creative endeavor. As GottaGo said, well-worn jeans are also a definite plus.

Opinionated and Passionate. Whether its in religion, politics, occupy, community organizing etc. Someone who has principles and fights for them. Honestly, on a date if a woman ever utters "I don't have an opinion", I'm generally about ready to call it quits.

Gawd, do you really think you want a relationship with someone constantly disagreeing or questioning your every comment or opinion?

I know I divorced someone like that a few years ago and what a relief life has been since. I don't believe in doormats but what put the nail in the coffin was when I commented on how lovely and blue the sky was once and I got sucked into a 10 minute "debate" about why...

Intelligence and wit above all else. Smarmy and sarcastic are definite pluses. Also defiant.

Intuitiveness and unconventionality.

I like women who are a little weird, and if they are weird in the same ways I am weird, all the better.

General all around intelligence and stability. So many people are not trust worthy because of their flaky personalities, ideas and unbalanced emotional status. I hate wasting the time and effort on building a relationship with someone who basically flips out on you for no real reason. Though you have to take chances because you never really know who's going to hang in there.

When a woman (or anyone really) cares deeply and genuinely for his/her friends and is loyal to them. That's a quality I find to be very attractive.
