Melania plagiarized Michelle Obama

Would have been freakin' hilarious if Melania said:

"And Barack and I were raised... uhhh... Donald and I were raised with the same values."

Here’s the key moment in Trump’s speech tonight:

My parents impressed on me the value of that you work hard for what you want in life. That your word is your bond and you do what you say and keep your promise. That you treat people with respect. Show the values and morals in in the daily life. That is the lesson that we continue to pass on to our son.

We need to pass those lessons on to the many generations to follow. [Cheering] Because we want our children in these nations to know that the only limit to your achievement is the strength of your dreams and your willingness to work for them.

And this is from Michelle Obama’s speech in 2008:

And Barack and I were raised with so many of the same values: that you work hard for what you want in life; that your word is your bond and you do what you say you're going to do; that you treat people with dignity and respect, even if you don't know them, and even if you don't agree with them.

And Barack and I set out to build lives guided by these values, and pass them on to the next generation. Because we want our children — and all children in this nation — to know that the only limit to the height of your achievements is the reach of your dreams and your willingness to work for them.

Holy ****. This is unreal.

Somebody on Trump's campaign screwed the pooch on this deal.

shrug...

This sort of thing didn't hurt Obama. I don't think it'll hurt Trump.

Interesting how it appears that so many socialist/fascist/lefty loonies watched THE REPUBLICAN NATIONAL CONVENTION. Cool, huh?

Well, that is a response, I suppose.

Oh...I think very few have actually watched the convention. It's more their style to just read the biased blather from some other lefty and parrot the blather all over the place.

Except that these are all well-worn platitudes not unique to either woman.
To assume plagiarism on well-worn platitudes only speaks to the depths of desperation the haters will go.

Without evidence of actual plagiarism, yours is the most rational explanation.

I saw a similarity in a small part of the content, but not in the words, or overall structure of the speech..

What else is a potential FLOTUS supposed to talk about?

It's not a matter of platitudes. All one has to do is to look at what not just words, but entire phrases were used in what order...and any objective person fluent in the English language soon sees that the possibility that there was not plagarism is vanishingly small.

I'm not really personally bothered by it - English is not her native tongue and I'm quite certain that she meant no offense. But on the other hand, Trump's campaign does have to address this one - that's the nature of the game. Trump's spent so much time denying every other scandal, so it should be entertaining, at least, to see how he tries to mansplain this one away. I haven't heard his reaction yet, but I bet it'll be something on the order of what nota bene (disingenuously) tried to claim above.

Wait - hold the presses - there's already a statement from the Trump campaign:

*sigh*

Yet another example of "If Trump (or family) does it, it must be okay or right or patriotic or the most beautiful stupendous thing ever."

Even if that's true, I don't give a rat's behind. After 8 years of incompetence, lies, and corruption from Obama, Hillary, and their 'we don't care' sycophants, I'll revel in the politically-correct crowd growing a rhoid over it.

Bwaahaahaahaa!!

She is a ****ing muppet!

Definitely a negative for the Trump campaign, as it gives fodder for the media to latch onto and speak about and focus on that's negative coming out of day one for the convention. Something you never want for a time that normally will give you a nice big boost.

I think the notion that "this is a major scandal" to be one of the most laughable bits of hyperbole I've ever read on this forum though. This will be a tempest in a teapot for a few days, likely until later in the convention when something controversial is undoubtedly said. Part of why this isn't going to likely be major is the way in which the Trump campaign has handled things like this. The notion of "they're have to deal with it" just...isn't necessarily right. While in recent weeks Trump's campaign hasn't been as good with just brushing off and diverting on things, it was a hallmark of their earlier campaign and I could see them successfully doing that with something that ultimately is entirely inconsequential.

If this was Trump himself, I could see it being a bit larger issue. But it's the wife of a candidate, who claims to have wrote it primarily herself, where English isn't her first language, and ultimately was some of the most basic standard platitudes as possible. What that means is that it's likely to be overlooked or shrugged off by almost all Trump supporters, and for most TRULY "independent/undecided" folks I imagine this will be miniscule on their list of which candidate to actually support. The only individuals that will truly make a significant deal out of this are going to be those who would already not be in favor of Trump, which ultimately won't matter because nothing she was going to say was going to change that.

So a net negative for the Trump campaign, without a doubt, but more like a speedbump than a "major" derailment of any sort. One that is likely to have little to no impact on anything that actually happens in November, but does take some air out of the convention coverage for the campaign

What a bunch of nonsense. My parents taught me the same thing. It is a great lesson. What is wrong with repeating it? Is MO the only one allowed to utter the words? Did she plagiarize the words I have so often repeated to younger people?
What a bunch of bs.

Well I mean it's hard to come up with something original when you're own story is so shallow.

What, like "I am black, you owe me......?"

Precisely. Did Michelle Obama coin those phrases? Nope. Was Michelle Obama a plagiarist for restating those platitudes? Nope.

I was unable to watch any coverage last night. I woke up this morning and searched for Melania's speech and was hit by a deluge of search results on this "plagiarized" meme.

Are the brains so addled, and the media so manic, there is a belief Michele Obama's speech was used as a reference for content? Michele Obama? Really?

Does Mrs. Obama own the words and phrases she used in her 2008 speech, never to be used again by anyone? Is the media so horrified by the words of an accomplished woman they must ignore the message, and clutch for something, anything, to attempt to insult and belittle her?

The desperation by the Clinton forces is palpable, but this reveals levels I thought they would never want to admit in public.

It's not just the words/phrases, it's the fact they are put in basically the same order and arranged the same way. CNN is running a side by side of the two speeches and it's very clear Trump's speech was lifted from Obama's.

And, honestly, I don't really care all that much. I watched much of the convention last night, but didn't watch Trump's speech. However, I suspect Trump's speech ran for several minutes and lifting a couple paragraphs which are fairly common in politics just doesn't bother me that much. But Trump campaign should just admit it happen. Lying and saying that Melania's speech didn't rip off Michelle's speech is obviously a lie, so just come clean and move on. Most people won't care. I know I don't really care that much.

You can't be serious. THAT was plagiarized. I doubt she did this, but the similarities are astounding. This is a major scandal. Let's see how this is handled.

Slow down there, Cow Poke. Joe Biden is a confirmed plagiarist who lifted entire speeches and he's the current VP.

I don't have a horse in the race here but watching the side by side video, it would appear that a section of a speech by Michelle Obama has been lifted. If you actually watch it, I'm really not sure how you could come to any other conclusion.

Sure you don't.

Why should they admit something that didn't happen?

I'm going to search, but I wonder if CNN has any comments on the content of her speech, as opposed to pushing this plagiarized meme for the pack to bark at.

So far, the answer is no.

Setting goals, working hard, being honest and havng repsect for others are so rarely encouraged by parents that it could not possibly be anything other than plagiarism. ;)

I don't think Michelle Obama ever said that.

Of course she may not have used these exact words, but I listened and heard. I also hear Obama and those with whom he surrounds himself.

Where did Michelle hear those words? Those aren't her own. So surely everyone who believes in those words is welcome to repeat them.
I don't have a horse in this race either, and I find Trump despicable, but I also realize that words and phases used by both Michelle and Ivona are words of wisdom uttered long before we even knew the ladies existed.
