I think you're thinking of Bill Clinton? Pretty sure Obama uses speech writers, and one of his formers is now working for Hillary.

Don't know if he uses speech writers for every speech regardless of the event, but he does have pros on staff. Even Bill didn't write everything himself.

But yeah, generally none of them write their own stuff. Frankly, for Melania to even claim she did and expect to be believed tells you the level of the group she was addressing.
 
You know, i'm just thinking:

A big deal was made of her having worked "for 5 or 6 weeks on the speech"!

So - Either she wrote it & lifted it (doubtful), she spent 6 weeks learning to deliver it (possible), or they lied (perhaps even more possible).

There's a few apologists here that are trying to playing it down. But the thing is...people can get fired, sued and lose their careers for plagiarism...especially writers. So it is kind of a big deal.

I haven't watched it...just the highlights. The Late Show with Steven Colbert and Jon Stewart are going to be covering the convention all week.
Should be fun. :mrgreen:

Obama wrote many of his own speeches, and all his own books too (I have two of them). He's a very good writer, even though I assume he uses an editor.

I'm not saying he writes all his speeches today, but he wrote all of them when campaigning for the office into the 2008 election, and continued writing in some capacity into his Presidency, though I suspect as you claim he now mostly (but not always) goes with speechwriters.

I don't recall Bubba writing his own stuff, but he was well known for speaking extemporaneously, often embellishing or eschewing what was prepared for him!
