I have visited once... Austin area. Loved the music, the people, the distilleries, even a couple of wineries....

Ok, hidden agenda. I just bought my first rifle with my 'stimulus' check and wanted to brag. Its a Savage XP .308 if you're interested. I plan on mainly just having fun at the range, but its always useful to have a tool and skill for hunting.

Anyway, im in Florida, and we only used to have a three day waiting period on handguns. Since the Parkland shooting, when a guy passed a background check, bought a rifle, and then shot someones a year later, we now have a three day waiting period on rifles too. Which is pretty annoying. I still have one day to wait to go pick up, and thought I would ask if this waiting has any real point?

I think the waiting period is hogwash. It doesn't help.

At least they've made it consistent to put a facade of respectability on it, I suppose. My state had one of those 24 hrs for long guns/72 hours for handguns waiting periods as well. Like it is intrinsic to long guns that it takes less "cool off" time for them.

Then they changed to 72 hrs for everything...including most serious air rifles. Strange they didn't change it to 24 hrs in their quest for consistency.....

Any data on how many guns are impulse purchases subsequently regretted? Why wouldn't the regretful buyer simply sell the piece to somebody else?
