I must admit he has actually said something funny for a change.
But why did he call me a "her"?

It obviously isn't free if doctors are living in mansions and driving BMWs.

*shrug* The government subsidises it, but it's free (or very cheap) for the people who are using it.

There's also private healthcare, which is good if you want faster elective surgery, a guaranteed private room, etc, but obviously not everyone can afford for the insurance. It's just paying for the frills, anyway.

I broke my coccyx (tailbone... oh, the ouch!) recently. Guess how much it cost to see a GP? Nothing. The x-ray? Nothing. The prescription painkillers? AU $6. How long did it take in total? Just over an hour, including x-rays and analysis.

Public healthcare works. It's not flawless, but it works. Australia still has an excellent economy for our population size, so it's hardly bankrupted the government. It's comforting to know that regardless, if I or anyone else someone needs a heart transplant or chemotherapy, we won't be too poor to afford it. Same goes for long-term medication, or rehabilitation (such as after a car accident).

Okay, and where does the government get the funds to subsidize it? From the people.

The question really comes down to this: Do you feel that everyone should pay a set amount of their taxes to the government in exchange for a system of health care where everyone is taken care of equally, or do you think that people should keep that money, to spend themselves if they happen to fall sick.

I'm opposed to national health care for this reason. The vast majority of things that people go to the doctor for are either elective or caused by the actions of the person. Should my tax dollars pay for:

Diabetes medication for someone who got diabetes through poor diet and lack of exercise?
Heart problems for someone who weighs 400 lbs and eats junk food all day?
Chemo/treatment for someone who smoked 2 packs a day all their life?
Adderol for uppity kids?
Viagra for someone with ED?

I see no reason why I should pay for the (preventable) health problems that others bring on themselves by making poor life choices. I work hard to keep myself in good shape so I DONT have to worry about these things, why should I pay for them for someone else?

It is not the doctors that cahrge you out of your home, it is the hospitals. Doctors rip up an awful lot of bills.

You don't think the doctors charge a killing for surgeries while in the hospital.

We went from this...

I know a lot of them write off charges when the patient can't pay. And no, the vast majority of the bill is from the hospital, not the physician. But hey, you go spend 12-15 years in school after high school and then go out charging $30/hr to pay off your student loans.

Which doctors do you know that write off pay? I would like to go to him/her.

Just cuz God gave you both sets of genitalia is no reason to take it out on the rest of the forum...

Or is that "neither set"?...

Really. You fuc*king wankers have damn near the whole site to argue this. Go start your own thread. cnredd comes up with a killer funny thread. Not only is it clever and witty but it plays to the involvement of everyone else. This is genius, very hard to nail something funny all while giving everyone an inroad to play along. What SHOULD have happened is that everyone else should now be chiming in with their own funny takes on cnredd's start up. A way to dig your enemies and look good doing it. God forbid we have two funny threads here. Says a lot about people.

*Until two months later when vague, seeing the downward spiral of a killer thread, presses the power button on his server and tiptoes away with nary the glance back.

I believe the argument between me and Kelzie is actually in spirit with this thread atleast in relation to the statements about us. And I have it on good authority that CNREDD once stole a nickle but upon further research it was proven to be a dime now you are all going to burn in hell!
