Way to have an optimistic outlook.

Is it also not possible that his speech could have some positive effects or is Obama incapable of doing any good in your eyes?

Why in the world would you even consider it likely? What premise are you basing this on? Is this just a stupid partisan hack job poll? I think it is.

Dear Leader is an idiot, an incompetent, and an insufferable narcissist--and that's on his good days.

That said, Dear Leader's words have never motivated anyone to do anything of substance, nor will they have any such effect now.

If there are new terror attacks in the Middle East, it won't be because Dear Leader decided to give yet another speech about himself.

Your "Dear Leader" shtick is getting really old. People would probably take your arguments more seriously if you didn't show such obvious bias and in such a childish and cartoonish manner. Just saying. :2wave:

Shouldn't we hear it before deciding? Hopefully he won't talk about how morally deprived and crappy we were as a country before he rescued us from our deviant deviant ways. Clearly that is his favorite topic.

I read the transcript. He didn't. It was actually quite a good speech.

From most intel reports that have made way into the media, since Obama has taken office new recruits for Al-Qaida have been down, the Taliban as well. Thus, bin Laden's new recording to tell Muslims not to trust Obama. So I would argue that his stance is working.

Well he actually did a little bit, for example...

Summary: We did bad, but I'm here now.

Overall though not as bad as previous speeches where he lingered on and on in apology.

He was pretty harsh on Israeli settlements though. Bush tried to do that. The reply is usually, "Uh, no!" :rofl We'll see if Obama can sweet talk them.

Well it depends. If he tells Israel harshly to stop the settlements and Israeli ignores him and we continue to support Israel (which we will) they'll soon realize he's full of empty platitudes.

I remember Bush talking about how the settlements were an impediment to peace or progress. I don't recall him saying they were unacceptable or being so harsh publicly.

I'm not sure that was a good idea.

What good does his speech do? They don't understand the nuances of the English language.

Yeah, because English is so complex.

And Bush was speaking to a leftish Israeli government.

Talk about being negative

And Bush was speaking to a leftish Israeli government.

Actually he said it all over to many. He said it here before he even left for his trip to the Middle East. He repeated it on his trip throughout the area.

Bush: Israel settlement expansion impediment | Special Coverage | Reuters

What he didn't do is make any demands, ultimatums, or threats.

Now Obama really didn't either because although he stated pretty severely that Israel needs to stop he also stated unequivocally that the bond between the US and Israel will not be broken. Thus, empty platitudes.

"arguments?" Where do you see those?

This has been my huge disagreement with our handling of Israel and the Middle East myself. If Israel is not going to do what we want, why do we keep supporting them?

I really don't think there is going to be peace in the ME, and all we do by our involvement is look foolish. Time to back out and let them work out there own damnation.

I've never really understood the close ties.
Historically when Israel was first created it was in fact Europe who was closer to Israel. Why did it change?
It's not like UK/US alliance [We'd love a few extra billion a year as well thanks ]
Does US/Israel do something secret together? Does US gets anything?

Well it's interesting to me that we don't give some type of ultimatum. If Bush thought the settlements were wrong, Obama thinks they're wrong, most Jewish Americans don't support them, etc then tell them point blank to stop or else.

But telling them point blank to stop while inserting the caveat that our support for Israel is unbreakable turns it all instantly to empty rhetoric.

"arguments?" Where do you see those?

Honestly, I didn't even look for arguments. I just assumed that there were some in there somewhere. Right when I saw "dear leader" I skimmed over the rest of it.

Isreal has been like a guardian in that part of the world. They kicked Arab ass all over the desert. IMO, the US likes it's friends to be powerful and on our side.
