Mine was Ralph Nader. Ralph Nader is a tough SOB. He fought both parties and the auto industry in the 70's to make seatbelts mandatory. The amount of lives Ralph Nader has saved has sooo many commas.

Bernie Sanders. Hands down.

I was a Bernie guy too. During the primaries I phone banked, donated, on my states caucus date, I ran around town for hours handing out hand made fliers with voting information. And Bernie won UT handily. Bernie's the truth. Maybe he'll run 2020? Maybe. He hasn't said 'No.' If he throws his name in the ring, I will redirect all my energy to putting him in the White House. It's really too bad about the Democratic Primary... I still haven't forgiven the democrats for what they did to him and by extension the people.

Ben Carson. He should have gotten the Repub nomination. I believe his downfall should have been his biggest strength. He's soft spoken.

To find a politician I truly admire, I think I'd have to look all the way back to Teddy Roosevelt.

In my own lifetime, I think Bernie Sanders and Ron Paul are about as good as American politicians get. Gary Johnson wasn't ready for the big leagues in 2016, but I'm hoping the Libertarian Party has the sense to back him-- sans Weld-- again in 2020.

Internationally, of course, my idols are Rick Falkvinge and Birgitta Jónsdóttir.

Ditto on Teddy

Lincoln. Nowadays there isn't anyone I'm excited about. I really loved Palin, esp. when she went after RINO's, but not much positive info on her in the past 5 years or so.

I liked Andrew Jackson. Less for what he did than how he did it. He was the first pol to pull the common man into political conversations. His results were mixed, and he gets a bad PC rap today, but he truly was the president who changed Washington.

If I hold any hope for Trump, it is that he be a bit more like Andrew and not just a con man pretending to be like him.

There is only one politician that I have ever agreed with completely. On every detail on every single issue. Who's wisdom, from my point of view, has been unfailing. And he is ME.

(I became a politician the day I stood for public office under a party banner. That I knew with certainty that I would not win is irrelevant.)

Interesting. could you elucidate a bit? I cannot see it.

I could go on for a while, but in short, I like him because he's not a politician that's beholden to corporate interests.

I always fancied Octavian.

While I understand, I am not sure that his alliances are better for the country.

Bernie has been my favorite since long before he ever ran for President, and still is.

Ron Paul

Very few in Washington are as honest and consistent as Ron Paul and Bernie Sander. While I did not agree with him on all topics I did agree with Ron Paul on more than any other politician.

I think AJ fought the banks and won. The international banking elite were trying forever to establish the Federal Reserve here. And AJ fought them during his time and won. Now, of course they came back to meddle. There was too much money here, they HAD to have MOST of it. Er, some of it.. right some of it....

I worked on the nader campaign. Got to drive him to a news interview in Tempe, AZ when he was locked out of the debates there.

I'm not on board politically with Ron but I fully repsected his consistency. If anything, he is not full of political BS like most of them are.

Recently Bernie led a rally on the Supreme Court's steps, a rally against the Muslim ban. Here you have Bernie's essence with poetry in motion. He's an active participant in democracy, who is motivated to participate to make the world a better place for everyone. He has the record to back it up. For virtually every bad decision we've made as a country in the last 30 years. There's video of Bernie trying to stop it.

Oh, he is a socialist saint alright and knows exactly what is best for everyone.

In terms of anything in recent years, Dr. Ron Paul.

Extremely intelligent statesman of principle, a standard bearer for classical liberalism/ paleoconservatism, a stalwart defender of free markets and free people.

His son is likewise praiseworthy, if slightly more compromising on principle for practicality.

Henry Wallace. A good and honest man that almost had the opportunity to have changed the world as we know it.

Rand was my second choice for President after Kasich. I'm surprised to see we are that close in general political thought considering how far apart we are on that other issue.

I knew about the banker wars, but I just read that Jackson was the only president in US history to pay off the debt and leave office with a balanced the budget.

Side note: Most of that "surplus" came about by selling off public lands, most likely stolen from Indian tribes...but still. He was a man of his times. We can't judge him by mores of our times.

Harry Reid. He worked his way up to Senate Majority Leader the old fashioned way. He started out on his local city council then worked his way up one step at a time. I would have liked to see him run for president but his reputation was destroyed by the media a long long time ago. He wouldn't have stood a chance. Oh well. I just admire his work ethic. It is refreshing to see hard work pay off like that.
