"Roff", eh. Went through there many times on the way to Sulphur. Seemed to have a whopping population of about 50 people, IIRC. - But I do remember every summer there was that fireworks stand on the edge of town. Does that ring a bell with you?I am very familiar with Ada. My mom went to college there. We lived for a short time in Roff. Most of my extended family on my father's side live in Marlow.
I know Texoma. Although I have not been there in a long time.

Cool. We may have. I didn't get there though until the summer of 1981. I remember the Owl Cafe, but Buick's doesn't ring a bell. Heber, and Heber beach. Yeah, I remember going to Kennedy's market. Sad to hear about Camacho's. Folks were super secret about their carne marinade recipes, lord knows, I have tried to find one, many times, to find anyone out there who has one from the Imperial Valley.Sweet!
There is a chance we crossed paths, maybe at the Owl Cafe or at Buick's, and the best carne asada came from Kennedy's in Heber circa the 70's, though other institutions took note and quickly copied the recipe or tried to.
Sadly, Camacho's has closed, victim of the pandemic, and my step-father worked at that air station. I still camp in the desert on the far western edge of the station early in the year for the Blue Angel practice.

I watched the Blue Angels every day for a couple years during their winter training schedule and went to their end of the training air show a couple times.
The fun when I worked as the seed research station was watching the daily "touch and go" practice flights of crews training for carrier landings on land before going onto the decks of actual carriers. Saw quite a few near misses among those jets.
I was working up on top of a giant grain silo one day when one of the Angels augured into the desert north west of the base. I didn't see it go in but heard the boom and turned around quick enough to see the fireball and the smoke. So sad.
I got to the valley thanks to my great uncle who had been stationed there for a time during WWII, he had loved it and moved back there after the war and college and marriage. He was a professor at the College there. I went to visit him and loved it myself and started applying for work while visiting him and got hired on the last day I was to be there. Went back to Illinois tied up loose ends and turned around and went to live in the Imperial Valley.
Oh man...I almost forgot about the sugar beet processing facility, and the smell...aieeeeeeee!!!I was 19 in '81, had to go to Yuma or Mexicali to drink legally, and around then I got a job at Holly Sugar. Worked there for six or seven years.
My mom worked at that college. I'm positive I know your uncle, may have even taken a class of his.
I never did take a tour of the Prison there in Yuma. Wish I had. Did get to see the tarantula migrations on the highway out past Glamis. I wasn't a desert player though, but I loved seeing the dunes from the road. I did a lot off hiking in the painted gorge out Plaster City - Ocotillo way.I was 19 in '81, had to go to Yuma or Mexicali to drink legally, and around then I got a job at Holly Sugar. Texas, gateway to new Mexico! Moved around multiple states in the South, and the bad part of southern Cali. Married a foreigner (she was a Chicago native) and have been dodging her Louisville Slugger motivational device for more than two decades.
tragic ….And Königsberg was a beautiful city once - before it became Kaliningrad.
