When is Electricity Going to be an Issue?

building a big ol coal fired generating plant ain't cheap peeps (fergit the outlay for a nuke)
them things are brought online and MUST be run in a steady state manner months on end used for bearing the load baseline generating needs
then you'll see the widdle plants that are run by stuff like natural gas that can come on and supply power at short notice
these are what keep the lights on during peak load times, some of them are really cool cuz they basically have giant turbo-jet engines running the generators

but when it comes to coolness factor they cain't lay a finger on these

air is 14 times more dense than hydrogen

IF we are the free society evernyone wants to claim we are, then I have major and significant problemw with it.


Let's look at that "Peak Hours" concept.... How much of your electric use is done between 7am and 11pm? I ask because those are the defined "Peak Hours" for most of the urban areas in this country under the SG project. Nor is the markup a pidly thing to look at.... it could be as high as a 50% increase. If one were to suggest that 80% of your electric usage was "peak", you'd see a 40% increase in your electric bill. Hmmm... not something I'm looking forward to. Though I'm looking even less forward to my devices shutting off on their own because I'm not given the choice to pay the higher price or turn the device off.

you'll learn to dry the clothes during off-peak hours now won't cha?
 

That's pretty much their plan. Gonna cause some serious scheduling issues for most laundomats when they can only be open from 11pm-7am, but someone will figure it out, I'm sure.

how's the battery life or do YOU have to husband your generating capacity & usage patterns based on when the sun is out or if it's cloudy?
or are you really just hooked to the grid anyways?
 
My house is deep in the woods past the electric grid.

The solution is not complicated; build more power plants. Meanwhile throughout the electrical appliance and construction sectors, R&D is underway to made the stuff that uses electricity more efficient.

BTW: Tesla Motors is working on developing solar electric generators that they plan to offer with the sale of future electric cars that will be enough to recharge not only the cars they sell but some left over to feed back to the power grid. This will accomplish several things:

1. Provide a fuel source for electric cars that will rarely need to use the power grid.

2. Help defray the cost of the the solar electric system by generating a positive income stream for electric car owners. Under federal law, Americans are allowed to operate electrical generating systems that can be installed by a licensed electric contractor to reverse feed whatever electricity not being used by the owner into the power grid to make their electrical meter run backwards. Initially this simply reduces their bill each month but if enough electricity is produced; more than what they used from the power company, they get a check FROM the power company. So not only will Tesla owners not create any new electrical demand, we can all be thankful to them for generating electricity for the rest of us.

3. This ingenuity is bound to create competitive forces that will compel other car companies not to be outdone and will follow suit. Tesla leads the way in home solar electric production mean GM, Honda, Mazda, Ford, Mercedes, BMW, Mitsubishi, etc. will follow suit. Before you know it almost everybody will have a solar electric generator on their garage roof.

Like I said before, what we have here is yet another person that does not understand what the PREAMBLE is. That does not understand it in and of itself is not the binding part of the Constitution, but rather an introduction to what is to follow and reasons the LAW that follows is being put in place. It is not law unto itself, nor binding as to the duties of government. It is a PREAMBLE.

I think its great we have a law that says not only can we manufacture our own electricity but send what we don't use to the power grid and get paid. There are a lot of dumb laws on the books, I personally see no negatives to this one.
 

And I almost forgot one more: with new small solar roofing to charge people's cars all over, a huge competitive market is created leading to R&D into better solar technology.

It doesn't grant legislative power, but it does give an outline as to what the purpose of the government should be.

Conservatives also tend to ignore the elastic clause. If electricity is deemed necessary and proper....

I wouldn't call it crap but I wouldn't mandate buying it either. The way some people respond you'd think they actually believe people are being forced to buy cars that they don't want for whatever reason.

It would be a tangent but there are a lot of things we do have to buy by government mandate and I don't hear anyone complain; clothing, food for your children or you go to jail, running water and electric for your residence or it gets commended, smoke detectors...
