What a turn on....

I may be an outlier but I absolutely agree with you SmokeAndMirrors. Have to say, every woman I've had long relationships with have told me the same thing - I know you don't like the makeup look as much as my natural look but I wear makeup for me, it makes me feel prettier.

I don't think you are. What a lot of women don't seem to realize is that straight men are actually attracted to women, or at least that's been my experience. You know, the stuff that actually makes them women. Anyone can wear face paint. That doesn't make you a woman. It's shape and smell and that kind of thing.

It's also been my experience that a lot of guys appreciate diverse body and face types. They like, well... women. And women come in all varieties.

Some guys prefer this over that, but a lot of them just enjoy the uniqueness.

Men are such LIARS when they say they don't like makeup. Why do you think they always post pics of women who are loaded with makeup and plastic surgery?

Well, I tend to think they do, because, let's face it, women do look better with it, but otoh, I think that many of them like it when *their* woman is comfortable going without it.

Well, it does make a difference for a lot of women, if we're being honest. I know more than a couple girls who could easily pass for a 9 while dolled up that are really only a 6 without it.

That's why it's generally better to go for the natural beauties.

Though, if we're going to be totally honest here, it's not exactly like the same rules don't apply to men in a lot of ways too. How many of you ladies can say that you would really want to go out on a date with a guy who looked like Ed Norton from Fight Club?

Well, actually, I kind of dig his look. :) Not the bruise, but otherwise. And yes, I've known plenty of women who look good at work or play, but first think in the morning, yikes!

In the first picture, she's smiling which is always more attractive than not smiling

Also, what's up with the shaved eyebrows?

This is actually a perfect example of the confirmation bias thing. She's plucked out all her eyebrows and her skin is beat from being under a layer of foundation all the time. Plus, she's not smiling. She's planned her face around make-up, right down to her expression.

We don't actually know what she looks like in her natural state, because her "without make-up" photo isn't natural. It's just without make-up.

Make-up can certainly play certain things up, and a little will go a long way. But when you've kind of re-formed your entire face for it, yeah, of course you won't look as good without it.

You mean the unwashed look paired with two day stubble and hung over raccoon eyes actually works? Sweet!

Given a couple of days to lounge around the house, most guys have got that particular style down to a science.

True, but it can also work with more average women.

While I would generally agree that less is more (and that a woman who can look good au natural is ideal), it's hard to deny that there is such a thing as "dressing to impress."

Yes, I kind of prefer the Wildman look over the pretty boy.

Yikes! TBH I'd rather wake up every day with the first picture than the second. But then I'm not into clown raccoons. And just because you don't wear makeup doesn't mean you can't brush your hair.Love how they have to play tricks with lighting, expression and hair just to justify the silly mask face.

As all Tom Leykis' loyal listeners know, the best sex is often with the "Psychobitches from Hell."

I agree but TBH, it would nice to work on some of my whore/madonna issues on the weekends with the 2nd one.

Anyone who has ever listened to him knows the psychobitch from hell in the equation is Tom himself.

It works until you start getting serious about messing around with a girl.. then you need to get clean shaven so as not to chaff. In this way the stubble partially advertises your availability to the ladies.

Still it is a balance, unless you are going for "blue collar working man" full out you have to take care of yourself, a bit of stubble, but trim those nails. It is quite possible to go with stubble yet still be groomed.

Oh, c'mon. Be honest. Which one would you approach first in a night club or bar?

There's a reason why make up and form-fitting clothing on women are popular, after all. Visual attraction is all about making an attention grabbing first impression, and that's exactly what getting "dolled up" tends to achieve.

Yup, at times. Like I said, if you know what to highlight, you can make an improvement. Even I have a trick or two I use when I want to look dramatic, but 95% of my face stays untouched.

But there's a couple things going on here, as well.

One, this is really porn-y. I don't know a lot of guys who like that when it's actually in their face.

Two, the lighting. It's dramatically more flattering in the after picture.

Her hair is really unflattering in the first. Not the curls, but rather how it's all pushed back and unbrushed/cared for. That's not flattering on anyone.

Let it hang more naturally and you'd have a dramatically prettier middle-aged women.

But of course, that brings us to the other thing that's going on here: trying to look younger. This idea that older women can't be beautiful unless they try to make the years disappear.

I disagree.

Exactly. A woman is always ultimately looking for a provider of some sort when she's looking for a guy to get serious with.

This generally requires that a guy "clean up" his act a bit. Admittedly, however; this depends to a great degree upon culture.

Warrior or hunter cultures are naturally going to favor rougher men, whereas more settled cultures tend to go for a more inherently "civilized" persona.

You understand the reference was to a female sexual partner?

The first one, especially if the end goal involved any sort of kissing. Desmond Morris told us all we need to know about why the makeup and form fitting clothing are advertisements.

Besides, it's mostly about confidence in presentation.

.... he told me he's been in the Army for 15 years and is the regional coordinator on a project for the Pentagon. I find military men soooooo sexy.

What are some of your turn-ons?

I have found out over time the more beer I have and the darker the bar, the prettier and more attractive the women in it become. So beer is my turn on.

A lot of it is actually about competing with other women. Humans do the attention thing, but it actually tends to be more about male display than female, when it does happen.

A woman who is confident and knows how to dress to suit her shape (which doesn't necessarily mean skin tight) will do just as well as a woman who goes for the porn look, but she'll probably attract better men.

What I attract, I have found, is COMPLETELY dependent on the attitude I walk in with. Depending on which side of my personality I show, I attract different kinds of men who want different kinds of things. I could be wearing the exact same thing twice, but if I go in with two different attitudes, I get different guys.

Yeah, but the coyote thing in the morning is a real drawback. You can only chew off your arm so many times.

The moral of the story is to go for a short time and not an all nighter. Then you will have had the girl of your dreams instead of a nightmare.

Absolutely. Less is more. "Cute and classy" will win out over "painted whore" pretty much any day in my book. I'm just saying that it's not entirely honest to say that men won't often favor women who dress out as over those who opt not to.

Serving in the Army, where pretty much every woman shows up to work frumpy and subdued, I can tell you first hand that make up and feminine clothing can make a massive difference with regards to overall attractiveness. A woman you never would've given a second glance at the office can turn into a damn beauty queen given a decent set of heels and some lipstick.

Well, that's kind of the whole point of military garb, isn't it?

I mean, there are people with a thing for the uniform itself, but I gotta say the buzz cut doesn't do much for most men. The shape of the uniform might do more for men than it does for women, though.
