U.S. carbon tax could halve deficit in 10 years: report

Last edited:
I guess the classic cliché, popularly but incorrectly attributed to P.T. Barnum, was a serious understatement. There's a lot more than just one every minute. Replace “minute” with “nanosecond” and you'd probably be closer to correct.

I have a forklift its 13-5k Donkey piggyback by Quality Corp. May the forks be with you.:)

It will take 10 years to shrink our annual deficit by 500-750 billion??

i disagree, because it would be among the most regressive taxes ever enacted.

i do support transitioning off of the oil-based transportation model. i just think that there are better ways to do it.

We will transition, make no mistake, it'll just be involuntary. If we wanted to do this voluntarily we'd have started thirty years ago.

If we implement a carbon tax, we shouldn't call it a carbon tax, because that's dishonest. We should call it a "hey, you're using the last of our cheap oil" tax.

I assume hear they are talking about carbon emissions. If that is so I am for it. And if Congress has enough balls which I doubt they could set it up like the windfall profit tax back in the 70's that way consumers would feel little if any pinch.

and double the cost of....everything.

The carbon tax is a wet dream for those who Hate America or want to turn us into another third rate Eurosocialist failure

Just HOW MANY more "taxes" does the government think we can handle? The average person or should I say my husband and I have NOT had a raise in over 6 years!....EVERYthing has gone up but our pay.

Clintons were talking about the rich paying more into society...I want them to be the first!....and EVERY other person at their conference last week that cheered them on.

Spending is OUT of control and WE are supposed to foot the bill, again? I think not! :censored

Read the posts. If Congress would construct the legislation like the Windfall Profits Tax the coal and oil companies would not be able to pass thier expenses on to us.

If you listen to the chant, people working and spending money cause Global Warming. The Democracks want to reduce our carbon footprint by amputating our feet.

I guess you just don't believe in taking personal responsibility. Don't you think the price of electricity and gas should also incorporate the damage you're causing? I do. But then again I believe in personal responsibility.

Then YOU take personal responsibility...but don't try to force you idea of personal responsibility upon anyone else.

The carbon tax would do no more than create an inter-company market for carbon credits. Instead of someone like Dow Chemical paying the government the tax they will find a company that hasn't used their allotment and buy the credits from them at a price less than the government tax would be. It would further drive up the incentive for companies like Dow Chemical to move everything overseas as opposed to paying the additional costs/tax here (assuming that Dow has not already moved most of its manufacturing overseas--they were just a name that came first to me).

Just because we can do a thing, doesn't mean we should. We could forever wipe out the debt with a tax on stupidity.

Your lack of responsibility affects my pocketbook.

Your lack of responsibility affects my pocketbook.

Not as much as your sense of responsibility affects mine...and everyone else's.

LOL!

I could list all the ways it's ironic for a republican to say this, but I'll let your imagination do the work folks.

Go ahead...but it's irrelevant. You see, I'm not a Republican.

You see, I'm not a Republican.

Coulda fooled me...

Romney has an "R" after his name.

I don't really care who is running for President as long as there is an "R" after his name.

I have a very good reason for voting for Romney because he has an "R" after his name.

Is this like that other thing that you do.

When you say you're not a birther, you just say things a birther would say?

Actually, you are fooling yourself...which is kind of pathetic, don't you think?

I've been very clear why Romney having an "R" after his name matters...as you well know since you went through the trouble to search my posts.

This is what I call a masterstroke in politics.

You invent a tax and then say it will do good. And the people will go along with it... but what most don't know, or don't want to realize is that it is coming out of their pockets. I mean really... this is not a productive measures. It will produce NOTHING over 10 years aside from some thinner wallets.
