President Trump is using the tragic terror attack in Manhattan as fodder for his immigration reform — blaming Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer for allowing the assault that killed eight people to happen.
The President tweeted Wednesday that attacker Sayfullo Saipov entered the U.S. in 2010 through the State Department’s Diversity Visa Lottery system.
“The terrorist came into our country through what is called the "Diversity Visa Lottery Program," a Chuck Schumer beauty. I want merit based,” Trump tweeted shortly after 7 a.m.
Trump seemed to confirm reports that the ISIS-inspired attacker came to the U.S. from Uzbekistan through the 22-year-old program.
Schumer later fired back about the nature of Trump’s social media post.
“I guess it's not too soon to politicize a tragedy,” the Democrat tweeted at about 8:30 a.m. without making a direct reference to the tweet.
It's always amusing to see partisan comments in the immediate aftermath of a tragedy. If the tragedy is a mass shooting, conservatives/Republicans swear we cannot politicize the deaths of innocents by talking about gun control, but if the attack is by a Muslim, they cannot wait to condemn Muslims and call for them to be banned. Conversely, when there is a mass shooting, liberals/Democrats can't wait to talk about gun control and how it could have saved innocent lives, but when it is a minority, they swear we cannot politicize the deaths of innocents by talking about minorities.
It's almost like so many people are gigantic hypocrites, including our political leaders.

Got it!

The bodies aren't even cold yet and Trump is politicizing this. What a disgraceful leader he is.

Uzbekistan, like Pakistan, is one of our partners in the war against terrorism. There is no rationaltiy to Trump's statement. It's just a disgusting comment that appeals to those who hate Muslim immigrants.
No it's not. The point is that people are okay with politicizing deaths, so long as it furthers the agenda they wish to pursue. If it's not in pursuit of their agenda, they fake outrage and claim you cannot politicize deaths.False equivalency.
None of this has anything to do with my point.Attacks like the one in Manhattan (and London, Paris, etc.) are political terrorism, organized and directed from a declared enemy of our society. They are designed to punish, and also demonstrate our people are not untouchable.
This is different from either typical crimes (like gun-involved thefts and murders), or mental instability (perhaps the Las Vegas attack...although that is still under investigation).
Uh huh, that's nice. Thank you for sharing.I agree but this is the president of the United States.

Yeah, this happens with literally every major tragedy that occurs world-wide. All sides look for a means of using the event to push their agenda, and it always happens within the first 24 hours. This is not unique to Trump, nor any indication of him being a better or worse leader than every other politician who does the exact same thing. Instead of focusing on the person who does the politicizing, maybe focus on the act of doing so. That, and our inability to hold our own team to the same standard, are the real problems.
False equivalency.

The administration made a stupid call letting in so many fugitives without sufficient vetting.
So, lets test your logic using a practical example. Are you saying that after 9/11 it would have been proper for Schumer to blame Bush for tragedy the day after?
She didn't politicize it until Trump lied.
False equivalency.

Yes. Bush ignored a memo titled "BIN LADEN DETERMINED TO ATTACK THE U.S." and his federal agencies were asleep at the wheel ignoring terrorism.

Hey, I'm no fan of Bush. But I'm asking if the day after 9/11 it would be proper to blame him politically while everyone is still grieving.
When we're attacked as Americans the first thing we should do is comfort those wounded and unite against our common enemy. Not finger pointing while the bodies are still cold.
We've seen many presidents and none of them have behaved so deplorably.
I hate to burst your bubble, but there's a lot of people determined to attack the US, and very few of them are actually able to pull it off. So no, politicizing that would still be wrong.
So one can get into the US on a lottery system, and all you have to say is that it’s too soon to re-examine that program by attacking President Trump? You guys just done get it, do you?
