Trump bluffed hard on his State of the Union, and Pelosi called it

Her constant opposition to him...refusing to negotiate, reneging on her SOTU invitation, etc...leaves him no choice but to take the step he didn't really want to take: Declaring a national emergency to deal with the humanitarian/security crisis on our southern border.

Reneging? When did she invite him in the first place? Please link to proof of that claim.

There is no emergency on the border. He isn't fooling anyone except his moronic base.

Because negotiation is required to pass a 'budget' bill acceptable to both the House and Senate - that should be obvious by now. Having that bill also acceptable to the POTUS (to avoid a veto) would be a bonus.

So only legislation/bills that meet with the prior approval of the President are the ones should be voted on and passed? Somehow I don't think that's how Founding Fathers intended for it to work.

That is not what I said. I said that negotiation is required to have both the House and Senate agree on a 'budget'. I added that having a bill not subject to veto would be a bonus - not a requirement.

President Trump is no stranger to bluffing, but rarely has he had his bluff called so hard and fast as he did by House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) on Wednesday.

It was unambiguous: Trump said he was coming, and he was challenging Pelosi to stop him. So she stopped him. And he backed down almost immediately.

Pelosi has more spine than Trump. The House is her House & anyone who wants to get inside has to play by her rules. Trump will have to learn how the Government works.

Holly ****, he ran away!

What if the major networks dont air it?

If you think any of our esteemed broadcast or cable networks would be willing to go dark on such an occasion, I want some of whatever you're smoking.

:rock

He has already established that there is a crisis.

ah no, There is no crisis at the border. Illegal border crossings were a big problem 15 years ago. No one saw fit to declare an emergency then. That problem has been mitigated by 80%, while the number of illegals living in this country is down 10%. It ain't a problem now, much less an emergency.

The only crisis at 1600 Pennsylvania, where there are lots of crisis, especially with Trump's political future. Sorry he suckered you into his personal problems.

Right, but what's NOT required is negotiating while 800,000 federal workers, and 10s of thousands of private contractors, are not getting paid and government is shut down. Pass a CR and they can negotiate any damn thing they want. I don't care. Just open the damn government.

No she doesn't, but she did get her ass exposed for what she is.

Bwahahahaha. Meanwhile The Tangerine Toddler's numbers continue to tank. Clearly it sucks to be you.

Of course he backed down almost immediately. He accomplished what he set out to do. He made her commit to something. And she committed in writing. She cannot deny her actions. She can only try to spin them.

And guess what...she gave up her previous pretenses about "security", etc.

More justification for Trump to declare a national emergency.

Wow.

Can't believe how desperate you guys are.

Seriously? A national emergency because Bimbo Brain can't face opposition?

Talk about brat like behavior, call out the troops because you can't have something you never even talked about for the TWO YEARS you had complete control.

Good luck with that as we watch Trump's already anemic numbers erode.

This whole ****ing tantrum is a disgrace and a mockery of the democratic system. Trump had no intention of demanding a wall until he got ripped a new one by his girlfriend on Fox. Spoiled baby goes to war over his ego is what it is.

But yeah I definitely want to see that "national emergency" and then attend the funeral of the conservative movement in North America.

I say from his WH bed in his PJs, TV on FoxNews in the background and a bucket of fried chicken right by his side in case he needs a snack between lies.

He won't do it without a live audience to give him standing ovations.

Why did you ask me a question if you were going to answer it for me?

Don't waste my time.

Dismissed.

Do you really believe you have the power to dismiss anyone here? How pompous.

I am not sure, he/she has to be younger and hopefully from a battleground state and popular in that state. Ben Ray Luján, Tim Ryan or possibly Marcia Fudge (black, woman and from a battleground state).

Hopefully choosing someone from a battleground state will make their chance of winning that state a bit bigger.

I get the desire for a younger Speaker with fresh ideas, but now is not the time. For the next two years, we need someone who can keep this pitiful excuse for a president in check, and that's Pelosi, as she's just proven.

My god, How do you Leftists always get it wrong?

This isn't The President bluffing, this is him giving that Bitter Old Fruitcake a chance to step in it again.

No matter where or how he gives the speech he will get the biggest viewing audience in US History and no one will miss any of the Democrats.

He will have an hour to tell America that for the first time in 10 years we have a year od over 3% GDP, the biggest manufacturing jobs growth in 21 years, and first real income growth in decades.

Idiot Freshman Congress people and Protestors wont have a way to disrupt.

If by bluff, you mean 'in the face of ambiguous statements, Trump let Pelosi know he was coming as planned', and by 'called him on it' you mean 'Pelosi cancelled the event at the last minute' -- that's exactly what happened.

Pelosi is being petty and childish -- and looking bad for it. The letter did what it was supposed to do - confirm Pelosi's intentions. Now the White House can press forward with plans for an alternate venue. The difference is that it will be on Trump's terms, not Pelosi's -- and she won't be sitting behind him making faces.

What "last minute" do you mean? She had already made it clear that during this shutdown, the lack of sufficient security personnel was a real issue. The president's SOTU address is given in a joint session only at the invitation of the Speaker. Trump obviously did not know that. Now he does.

The only one behaving like a whiny, bratty little child is Trump, as usual.

I am not saying now, she has already said she would step down in 2 years and that is fine. And if (which I do not hope) Trump gets elected again as president I hope the new democratic leader in the house will have the same courage as Pelosi has when it comes to standing up to the Orange Bully.

Technically, she did invite him, some time ago. They've been planning this for some time. What she did today was rescind the invitation at the last minute.

When did she invite him? Got a link to that?

It's a huge event with months of planning involved. Cancelling it less than a week before is definitely last minute. And it was petty of her.

Months of planning? Nonsense. Its been an annual event for a long time. I think they have the process down to a science. What makes you think it's a long process? Which part of it would require months of planning?

I agree, I was nervous that the Junior Congress would replace her as Speaker and that would have been a tragic mistake on their part. If someone else was Speaker and Trump had come back to them with this "I'm coming to do my SOTU whether you like it or not" routine, they may have acquiesced rather than standing firm and calling his bluff. That would have been a critical error on their part. Nancy Pelosi doesn't take kindly to being bullied, especially when she's in the right.

More red herring stupidity... hard pass.

Trump looks like a real doofus.

We know one thing, his speech wouldn't take months of planning. He's been saying the same things over, and over for months, he should have it pretty much down-pat by now.

Umm, no he did not. He tried to act like he was the boss of Nancy Pelosi. She slapped him down good.

She doesn't need to spin squat. He didn't accomplish squat. in fact, he got his butt kicked.

With a shut down , there really is no point on giving a SOTU, and, in fact, she's doing him a favor, with a shut down going on, his bloviating will seem even more so than it does usually.

Given that illegal immigration is way way way down, there is no emergency. There may be a political emergency for Trump, but it's one of his own doing, and, as such, does not constitute a national emergency.
