The Movie Review Thread.

I think part of the reason why I didn't like the Box was that it was advertised as one thing (thrill/suspense) but was, actually, quite the opposite of that.

Heck, they even actioned-it up in the previews, none of that was present in the movie.

Although the visuals of Clash of the Titans were pretty good, the story had next to zero flow, the casting for Perseus was nonsensical, and the whole Scorpion thing was one giant WTF.

The movie was also made into 3D after the fact rather than being filmed for 3d like Avatar was. The result is that the movie ended up being more distracting than if it had never been shown as 3d at all.

All in all, one of the more clumsily thrown-together films I've seen in recent history, though certainly not anywhere near as clumsily done as Transformers 2.

On another note, can anyone explain to me why Sam Worthington is this big superstar all of a sudden? He's no more interesting looking than any other Hollywood pretty boy, has no particular stage presence and can't act any better than any other average actor out there. I just don't get it. He was fine in Avatar, but pretty much anyone else could have easily done as well, at least.

I don't get why he didn't end up with Andromeda. Why bother throwing that other lady in there?!

I didn't see it in 3d so that was not a problem. I mostly enjoyed it but definitely a few WTFs.

re: Sam Worthington, I liked him in Terminator but he was not great in Avatar or Clash of the Titans, imho.

Well, after the introduction of the blue-eyed mummy nomad guys, I could pretty much figure out that the makers weren't overly concerned with loyalty to the original mythological story. The scorpions grew from the blood of Calibos? Okie dokie! Um, now the same scorpions are tame and being ridden around by Arab mummies? Uh...sure! Hades is evil? Why not! By the time we get around to Perseus not marrying Andromeda we're too numbed to really care anymore.

Collateral: Damn good film. The blu-ray looks fantastic, but at the same time really showed the limitation of digital photography, perhaps even more-so than Public Enemies.

Magnolia: Amazing movie, glad I saw it again, this time on Blu. Incredibly fast-paced with multiple stories, but do not let yourself get disappointed by that. Keep with it.

I'm interested in seeing an indie film called "Winter's Bone".

Anybody seen/heard of this?

Winter's Bone (2010)

1069,

Nope, never seen or heard of it.

Anywho, I'm watching Gladiator right now, and sometimes I swear I was born in the wrong era. The Roman life must have been an exciting one, albeit quite dangerous.

Modern life just seems so, I dunno, sanitized and boring sometimes.

Give me dirt and blood!!!

Am I just a weirdo, or does anyone else feel like that?

Apollo 13-Always a classic. Also, the Blu-ray was stunning. Top class.

I saw Kick-Ass last night, and it definitely lives up to its name. It's a great combination of funny and action-packed, and it's definitely enjoyable enough to pay to see.

Got talked into going to see Death at a Funeral yesterday.

Kinda meh. Okay, parts of it were funny, but honestly if you've seen the previews, you've already seen most of the really funny parts.

I saw a weird little sci-fi movie called "Moon" last night.
It was pretty good. British Indie film, came out in 2009.

Picked up Up on Blu-Ray yesterday. It's Pixar, so of course it looks great. The story is great, and the people who made the trailers for it deserve credit for giving the feeling of the movie without giving the plot away at all. Hilariously funny at times, exciting, fun story, entirely enjoyable experience. Most recommended.

Please tell me you still payed 35 bucks for it. I waited months for the price to go down because I was among the unlucky saps who thought they couldn't justify 20 bucks for the film-and then found out it went back to a consistent 35 dollars!.

29 bucks. Went on birthday gift card, so price was not an issue.

And what did you think of the movie itself?

Kick-Ass was a lot of fun and was pretty funny. Christopher Mintz (the kid villain) and Mark Strong (his father) stole the show in my opinion (I've been following Mark Strong since Syriana). Nicholas Cage once again fulfilled his purpose by occupying space that might otherwise have been taken up by varying mixtures of oxygen and nitrogen. But seriously, it's a great way to kill a couple hours.

"Let The Right One In" (A foreign film about foreign Vampires)

Watched "The Men Who Stare at Goats" today. Weird, funny, sad, a little tiny bit thought-provoking. It was one of those movies that made me think "Hmmm, don't know what I think about that yet".;)

Went to see "The Book of Eli" a couple of weeks ago. Absolutely loved it.

I didn't care for it.
You should go see "The Road".

I know what I thought. That it was a big ole waste of two hours!

It wasn't that bad. I knew where they were going, they just took a really boring road to get there.

Saw Clash of the Titans this last weekend. Entertaining, but the ending was kinda lame.

I'm making a conscious effort to see all of Johnny Depp's movies.

I recently finished "What's Eating Gilbert Grape?" and it was magical. A really great underrated movie.

I read the book a couple of years ago, and it was one of the worst I've ever read. I might watch it when it's on the "free" movie channels on satellite, but after reading the book, I wouldn't take a chance on wasting the money.
