Texas Secessionsts Win GOP Backing for Independence Vote: 'Major Step'

It's all political masturbation that went on long before they became obsessed by Dear Leader...a group of Texans thinking it's somehow manly to get their metaphorical dicks out and wave them around on a regular basis with cries of "Secede!" to reassert their cherished mythology of being somehow more bigly special than the other 49 states.

No wonder they keep re-electing Cruz. He's the perfect representation of this mindset.
You might enjoy this . . .

I wouldn't get my panties in a bundle if I were you guys.

Hey, it's Texas. They have been driving around with "secede" bumper stickers on their Ford pick-up trucks for as long as I can remember.

I mean, besides the fact that, on the surface, it's the stupidest godamn thing Texas could do, it isn't about really doing it.

It's about the Lone Star. It's about the Alamo. It's about the Texas culture of pride and braggadocio. Boots. Hats. World's best this. World's best that. World's pur-ti-est women. The big blue sky is bigger and bluer in Texas.

You know. Texas. It's a show of the illusion of that Texas Lone Star independence. That's important to native Texans.

But rest assured, it's just for show.

Yee-haw y'all. Don't mess With Texas.

Exactly. Pointless masturbation. There's not even a money shot. ;)

Plank 203 of the Texas GOP's [2024] official legislative platform, under the title of "Texas Independence," states: "The Texas Legislature should pass a bill in its next session requiring a referendum in the next General Election for the people of Texas to determine whether or not the State of Texas should reassert its status as an independent nation. This referendum should be a legislative priority."

Separately under the "state sovereignty," section Plank 20 called for "federally mandated legislation that infringes upon the 10th Amendment rights of Texas shall be ignored, opposed, refused, and nullified" adding: "Texas retains the right to secede from the United States." -- James Bickerton, Newsweek, 6/12/2024

Sheer lunacy. These planks were adopted at the Texas Republican Party convention held in San Antonio between May 23 and 25. Sheer lunacy. Even if the bill should escape the sane temperament of the State Affairs committee and appear on a referendum, which it failed to do the last time back in 2022, there is no provision in Texas or federal law to revoke the annexation. The Civil War and later a USSC decision in Texas v White formally bound the states together in a permanent union. Per the terms of annexation, Texas may or may not have retained the right to divide itself into as many as five states, but that ain't gonna happen either.

Sometimes I think the state GOP organization and the state GOP officeholders belong to two separate political parties.
TX has seceded from two different countries, and now they want to go a third time?

Maybe Texas is the problem...

Well, full disclosure, I am a Native Texan and I am so old that I have forgotten how many times I have seen these type "Texas Secede" headlines.

We'll see them again, in some future election cycle, having the same results, I'm sure.

"And all of the news just repeats itself, like some forgotten dream, that we both seen." **** John Prine

If you do not already know the name, let me introduce you to Richard Lance McLaren who deluded himself and a number of followers in believing the Republic of Texas never ceased to exist. They even set up a kind of shadow government headquartered in the Davis Mountains. Eventually they went too far by kidnapping and holding hostage a neighbor in some kind of effort to exchange them for a jailed follower. What he got was a confrontation with the Texas Rangers and 300 law enforcement officers. So, you might say McLaren's Republic was a third secession. This one from the State of Texas!

I didn't know that...and unsurprisingly, learning it did not shock me!

I would not bet the farm that it will never happen. Texas is facing an invasion of illegal immigrants and the Biden Administration is doing everything it can to block the state from addressing the issue. The democrats are attempting to change the voting demographics in red states by way of illegal immigration and do not care about the massive amounts of fentynal, human trafficking, drug cartel gangs, and terrorists the border invasion brings with it. I certainly do not blame Texas for considering drastic steps.

Correction sir. The Republican party, specifically the GOP congress, at the behest of the Convict Trump, that has blocked addressing the border problem. Now you guys own it. Suck it up Nancy.

Ah, 38 electoral votes firmly in the red territory, vanishes in an instant!

Texans used to register stuff in South Dakota to dodge TX rates.
OTR Semis now register in Maine.
I’m always wary of their loads and drivers.
Angel Fire, NM has a little Texas.
Northern CO wants out of CO.
The reich-wing militias on the internet since Clinton.

Texas oil men are buying up Colorado land and placing 20-foot fences on it and in court.
Huge berms now on I-76 blocking out what they’re doing with factory dairy.

Texas and it’s expansionist billionaires are draining the reservoirs and aquifers.
Lots of Texas people here in CO right now, both working and vacationing.

I’ve seen this grow since the 1973 summer before my college junior year.
(sorry to ramble on) and decades of drought after.
I want to add that NW Kansas and Eastern CO are GREENer than normal.
Decent rains for a few years.
Tremendous growth in irrigation for the ‘poorer’ guys.
Major trickle-down for their economies.

Out-of-state timid drivers may think all CO drivers are trying to kill them.

It might, however, be an invitation for a ginsu drone to come through the window.
The western states are absolutely a bigly chunk of my country ‘tis of thee.
The ‘Wind of Change’ is blowing in the wrong direction, brother.

Voting to secede is not "stealing a big chunk of the USA."
You act as if you never heard of the US Civil War and its outcome. It is just ignorance to think any State can vote itself out of the permanent Union. The Question was answered and denial now is just neo-confederationism.

Perhaps you are under the mistaken belief that voting for something is the same as actually doing it.
