Texas Secessionsts Win GOP Backing for Independence Vote: 'Major Step'

Texas Gov. ‘Jade Helm’ Abbott will continue to send his kidnapped prisoners to Chicago during the Chicago 2.0 convention as tRump pissed all over Milwaukee yesterday.
Who was kidnapped? Do you mean the illegal immigrants who are given bus rides to where they want to go?

The hemisphere’s migration north is due to the GOP’s united fruit company and support for murdering reich-wing juntas tied to gun-running, human trafficking and drugs.

Then you haven’t traveled the 🇺🇸 for a while.
This USSC is in the GOPutin’s back pocket.
The issue was settled by the US Army. SCOTUS merely papered the "transaction."

Plank 203 of the Texas GOP's [2024] official legislative platform, under the title of "Texas Independence," states: "The Texas Legislature should pass a bill in its next session requiring a referendum in the next General Election for the people of Texas to determine whether or not the State of Texas should reassert its status as an independent nation. This referendum should be a legislative priority."

Separately under the "state sovereignty," section Plank 20 called for "federally mandated legislation that infringes upon the 10th Amendment rights of Texas shall be ignored, opposed, refused, and nullified" adding: "Texas retains the right to secede from the United States." -- James Bickerton, Newsweek, 6/12/2024

Sheer lunacy. These planks were adopted at the Texas Republican Party convention held in San Antonio between May 23 and 25. Sheer lunacy. Even if the bill should escape the sane temperament of the State Affairs committee and appear on a referendum, which it failed to do the last time back in 2022, there is no provision in Texas or federal law to revoke the annexation. The Civil War and later a USSC decision in Texas v White formally bound the states together in a permanent union. Per the terms of annexation, Texas may or may not have retained the right to divide itself into as many as five states, but that ain't gonna happen either.

Sometimes I think the state GOP organization and the state GOP officeholders belong to two separate political parties.
It's about time. Texas needs to go.

They want their own country. I do wonder if TX get's it's wish, if all the MAGAs will make the trek to Texas to enjoy the fruits of the Religious Right. I have a feeling they would, and Texas would have plenty of happy people, living in a Christian Nation.
I am bad person for fantasizing that the country of Texas is the first to get *Rump's big beautiful dome or big beautiful wall to keep them out of what's left of the US. I wonder if they would be ready for a war with Mexico.

I can't even imagine wanting to give up my American citizenship.

Well, a lot of MAGA states are acting like their own country and the Supreme MAGA Court seems to be on their side in this. The United States is already feeling divided and more like the EU. I think they do have a bit of a chance in this.

I do think, in the end, this is the desire of the majority of MAGA voters, they talk about it all the time. They want their own country. I do wonder if TX get's it's wish, if all the MAGAs will make the trek to Texas to enjoy the fruits of the Religious Right. I have a feeling they would, and Texas would have plenty of happy people, living in a Christian Nation.

I do hope there's a lib relocation package, because that would really suck for them. They're already feeling divided from America's protection as of late.
Will have to close down all the military bases and take everything out including the light bulbs and copper wiring.

Texas draining the Ogallala Aquifer should be cut off.
True, that too. Let them go it alone. Should be fun to watch.

The Texas GOP plank is a grab bag of decent thoughts and cray cray, like using gold as currency. There is not one line in it about the greatness of TexMex.

My thoughts of Texas leaving the Union:
So, you may want to leave the United States and become your own country. In doing so take into consideration the following:
- You will be given your fair share of the National debt.
- All federal military equipment and personnel will be removed for Texas
- All federal funding given to Texas will stop
- All federal nonmilitary employees will have the option to transfer out of Texas or resign their position.

- Leaving the United States the citizens of Texas forfeit any contribution to SS/Medicare.
- The new country of Texas will be billed for any federal property and land at a fair market value.

Have a nice day. Payment will be due at time of leaving the Union.

We're not going anywhere.

Your fate is set. I offered £20 for the state and I can't see any President willing to turn down such immense riches.

Prepare for the terrible reign of Hyperlord Peter!

Actually you can live in another country and still get your social security checks. Thats pretty common.

There are sections of Texas on the national power grid that will have to be segregated or cut over to the Texas grid.

Also a lot of ship traffic will have to redirected to other ports.

For those unfamiliar with Texas history, they BEGGED to be annexed for 10 years because as a Republic they were broke.

I may be wrong but I think the US is one of the few countries that still taxes people who move to live abroad.
It's why some renounce citizenship if they're sure that where they now live is where they'll stay for life.
