Texas Secessionsts Win GOP Backing for Independence Vote: 'Major Step'

Will have to close down all the military bases and take everything out including the light bulbs and copper wiring.
Lots of Illinois ‘winter’ Texans. ‘Expansion’ separatist lebensraum movements are well under way up to ND and across to ID, all across the west. South of the 40th parallel has always been a ‘thing’. Iowa has joined Indiana as a confederate state. Nebraska is New Russia.

As Brexit has shown trade deals aren't that easy and Texas would have to start from scratch as a new country.

Good luck with that.

You guys thought I was kidding when I continually called them Confederates.

But don't worry, all the old Texans on Social Security and Medicare and the oil industry that sucks off of the CentralGov won't let this happen.

Oh...the REFUGEES wanted to go to Chicago? They said that?
He can’t deal with the GOP’s united fruit company starting the migration north.

I don't believe SS benefits are tied to citizenship status.
You could be right....I'm just not sure. But no NEW SSN benefits, right?

Actually you can live in another country and still get your social security checks. Thats pretty common.
Those with Illinois public pensions don’t get taxed by the state of Illinois. However, when these folks move to a RED state, they get taxed by that state. 😝

That is if you are a US citizen,

The question becomes are the people who stay in Texas US citizens or Texans?

Not if you're no longer a citizen, I believe.
True but you don't lose your citizenship because you are in a foreign country.

Lets say this occurred. I would still be a US citizen residing in the foreign country of Texas. Once Mexico reconquered it, I would be a US citizen residing in the Estados Unidos Mexicanos.

Rejection of citizenship is inherent in succession.

Unsure. Earnings from outside the country wouldn't count unless maybe it was a US company that collected SS taxes?

This article points out an interesting fact, if Texas tried to secede, they could face an internal civil war, between those in their state who don't want to leave and those that do.

The assumption seems to be that everyone or at least most would want to leave, but what about those that don't? Would they be able to get paid fairly for their land and property or just be forced to live if they'd prefer to live on "American soil"?

Texans I think after separation would be upset at not having a powerful military. No aircraft carriers, etc
Technically we have an Essex class and the USS Texas will be returning. We also have the CDC (Chupacabra Defense Corps - "the Fighting Goatsuckers!")

Yes.

Yes.
Pretty sure that Essex class doesn't belong to Texas. And the USS Texas also belongs to the US Navy, whether named for the state or not. They'd just rename the sub. But no way that Texas would likely be able to man a carrier properly. Probably would be a stretch to find enough qualified Sailors to man a submarine, including a fast attack. (I'm sure there were nukes from Texas, but honestly the only one I knew for sure was from Texas going through school was the woman who ended up failing out.)

Its a joke. :alien: They are both museum ships. Did you see they finished working on the patching the Texas' hull? Its so old it was dissolving. Pre WWI dreadnought.

A cool pic of the Texas coming out of the drydock a very short time ago.

We also have some old planes in the Confederate Air Force. I think the B-17 crashed though. And a whole lot of nose art in the hangers which very much impressed me when I was in Jr. High.

Got it.

I was going to suggest the CSS Texas. Not sure what shape it'd be in.

Would it be possible to have a vote on the issue like the Scottish independence vote?
Could that be used as a starting gun for the process?

You must be a citizen or a lawfully present non-citizen. A citizen of TX living in TX would not qualify.
