Because a few bad apples can spoil the whole bunch if they're left in there for too long.
The real issue is that they're *in* the Tea Party and NO ONE is trying to get them OUT.
For every Muslim extremist there are two Muslims fighting to distance their selves.
For every 'God Hate Fags' Christian there's a handful trying to shut them up.
I haven't voted - none of those options sum up what I feel because I think that the basic idea is good (against gross government oversight and overspending, etc) - but they're going about *everything* in the wrong way and will only turn out to be a fizzled rift in the GOP in the end. They're definitely not a strong 3rd party movement and won't be sticking around as a notable source of anything.
Interesting view. I think your statement regarding the Tea Party not distancing themselves from racism is rather wrong. I hear Tea Partiers all the time stating that they are not racists and don't support it in any way. This seems like distancing to me.
Ok - one person saying "I don't agree" is one person distancing. In the same way that a few racists don't represent the entier click - a few people who openly disaprove of those racists dont' represent the entire click, either.
The Tea Party as a whole (and the GOP for that matter - as well as Democrats, etc) need to OUST all offenders and not give a shred of tolerance.
Which they don't do.
Sure, you can't prevent every single nutbag from joining your group or using your group's stance to make a fool of themselves and offend others - but you can make a good effort to *prove* that you don't agree with them or support their radical ideas.
Oh - and your poll is public.
we can click and see who voted.

*smokes a cigarette whilst you have your fit*
When you're finished please re-read my previous statements and even look at the option I did chose for the poll.
I am not saying "ZOMG! The Tea-baggers are so racist!!!" - I said that the Tea Party (AND the GOP AND the Democrats) all have racists within their parties and they're not enough enough to *get them out* of the party.
Now - don't be a FOOL and try to tell me that there aren't racists *in* the Tea-Party because I know *first hand* of people who are blatantly racist and in the GOP and the Tea Party.
Now run along and watch your Fox - I hear Britney's showing some leg again.
Just heard about this Black Tea Patriots movement... Guess we're not a bunch of rich, white, racist men.

I'm by no way saying there are none of the above mentioned in the Tea Party movement, but they are not endorsed by the Tea Party. The Tea Party does not stand behind these people.
You don't judge all Christians based on the ignorant ones involved in the crusades do you? You don't judge all Muslims based on the 'extremists" do you?
Why judge the whole Tea Party based on a few bad apples?

It's a stereotype that is commonly uttered. Also, apparently 3 people in the poll think so, so far. Silly question.who said you all were rich? lmao.
Nobody ever seriously suggested that it was 100% of any of those things.
As for the racists, well, when some people carry around racist signs, some people cheer at those signs, and nobody calls them out on their ****, that is the impression you're going to give. Also, running black tea partiers out of the protests by shouting "ACORN! ACORN!" at them does not boost black recruitment.
Edit: Also, this appears to be a video of one black man. And almost all of the people posting on the facebook page are white.
"I'm not racist. Look, I have a black friend!"
I think the tea party is primarily white, but that probably has more to do with general demographics than anything else.
I have seen several surveys that show they are mostly above 40 though, so I voted for old (I am a young whipper snapper who thinks 40 yearolds are old)
Also, I think they are fundamentally misguided, but I do respect them because they are utilizing democratic values for the things they are passionate about. That is something I wish everyone would do.
I voted for old. Whenever I see clips of tea partiers, there is almost no one under 30.
I don't like old people

When everyone starts calling for Republicans, Democrats, Libertarians, Greenies, the Socialist Party, and every other political action group to get rid of their nuts and fringe elements, I'll call this view legitimate. When a movment of any kind become exclusionary and discriminatory because they don't like the personal biases of a small number of members, it's discrimination based on personality, and I have a problem with that personally.

I was waiting for someone to fall into that trap. I guess we're not just a bunch of racists, huh?
