Just heard about this Black Tea Patriots movement... Guess we're not a bunch of rich, white, racist men.

Black Tea Patriots | Facebook

I'm by no way saying there are none of the above mentioned in the Tea Party movement, but they are not endorsed by the Tea Party. The Tea Party does not stand behind these people.

You don't judge all Christians based on the ignorant ones involved in the crusades do you? You don't judge all Muslims based on the 'extremists" do you?

Why judge the whole Tea Party based on a few bad apples?

hmmm, seems we have our first Tea Part hater. Since the poll isn't public like I thought it was, care to show your face and defend your opinion?

Because a few bad apples can spoil the whole bunch if they're left in there for too long.

The real issue is that they're *in* the Tea Party and NO ONE is trying to get them OUT.

For every Muslim extremist there are two Muslims fighting to distance their selves.
For every 'God Hate Fags' Christian there's a handful trying to shut them up.

I haven't voted - none of those options sum up what I feel because I think that the basic idea is good (against gross government oversight and overspending, etc) - but they're going about *everything* in the wrong way and will only turn out to be a fizzled rift in the GOP in the end. They're definitely not a strong 3rd party movement and won't be sticking around as a notable source of anything.

Interesting view. I think your statement regarding the Tea Party not distancing themselves from racism is rather wrong. I hear Tea Partiers all the time stating that they are not racists and don't support it in any way. This seems like distancing to me.

Oh and to those who are voting, it would be great if you would support your opinions rather than hide behind anonymity. I've voiced mine despite risk of association by the misguided to racists. Why aren't you speaking up and supporting yours?

Ok - one person saying "I don't agree" is one person distancing. In the same way that a few racists don't represent the entier click - a few people who openly disaprove of those racists dont' represent the entire click, either.

The Tea Party as a whole (and the GOP for that matter - as well as Democrats, etc) need to OUST all offenders and not give a shred of tolerance.
Which they don't do.

Sure, you can't prevent every single nutbag from joining your group or using your group's stance to make a fool of themselves and offend others - but you can make a good effort to *prove* that you don't agree with them or support their radical ideas.

Oh - and your poll is public.
we can click and see who voted.

Where are all these racists that we are suppose to speak out against? Where are the bad apples? Don't repeat the same old lies about congressmen being spat on and called the N word. It never happened. Andrew Brietbart was on Fox again tonight. He had collected 4 different camera angles of the whole Nancy Pelosi giant gavel thing walking through the crowd. NOTHING HAPPENED and there were camera phones all over the place. You'd think one capitalist in that crowd would want to cash in on the 100,000 dollar reward for proof it happened. But since it never happened, Brietbart's money is safe. Still the liberals keep lieing over and over again. I heard the same old tired falsehood three or four times today on TV. Why aren't these people held accountable for their lies and why aren't liberals distancing themselves from the liars?
The only racism I've seen is racism againt black conservatives and that comes from the left!
I heard there was a poll that found the tea party to be LESS racist than the general public.

*smokes a cigarette whilst you have your fit*

When you're finished please re-read my previous statements and even look at the option I did chose for the poll.

I am not saying "ZOMG! The Tea-baggers are so racist!!!" - I said that the Tea Party (AND the GOP AND the Democrats) all have racists within their parties and they're not enough enough to *get them out* of the party.

Now - don't be a FOOL and try to tell me that there aren't racists *in* the Tea-Party because I know *first hand* of people who are blatantly racist and in the GOP and the Tea Party.

Now run along and watch your Fox - I hear Britney's showing some leg again.

Sure some are racist. But no one has the authority to *OUST* anybody from public property. All we can do is denounce them and they are. I'm willing to bet in any private Tea Party meetings racists are *OUSTED*.

Edit: Thanks for the heads up regarding us being able to check. Although I don't know if I'll have the same respect for some of the voters.

Nobody ever seriously suggested that it was 100% of any of those things.
As for the racists, well, when some people carry around racist signs, some people cheer at those signs, and nobody calls them out on their ****, that is the impression you're going to give. Also, running black tea partiers out of the protests by shouting "ACORN! ACORN!" at them does not boost black recruitment.

Edit: Also, this appears to be a video of one black man. And almost all of the people posting on the facebook page are white.

I actually don't have a black friend. Does an asian count? Here in Maine there are very few black people. This is one of the reasons I will live here all my life. I don't know how all you southern folk can stand being around blacks all the time.

K, thanks, bye.

I think the tea party is primarily white, but that probably has more to do with general demographics than anything else.

I have seen several surveys that show they are mostly above 40 though, so I voted for old (I am a young whipper snapper who thinks 40 yearolds are old ;))

Also, I think they are fundamentally misguided, but I do respect them because they are utilizing democratic values for the things they are passionate about. That is something I wish everyone would do.

YES! YES! YES! +5 points to you!

I mean, I don't agree with you, but at least you're sensible.

I voted for old. Whenever I see clips of tea partiers, there is almost no one under 30.
I don't like old people

When everyone starts calling for Republicans, Democrats, Libertarians, Greenies, the Socialist Party, and every other political action group to get rid of their nuts and fringe elements, I'll call this view legitimate. When a movment of any kind become exclusionary and discriminatory because they don't like the personal biases of a small number of members, it's discrimination based on personality, and I have a problem with that personally.

I agree, these are political ideologies and that's it. The Tea Party has certain standards they like to see. If some racist people also agree, that doesn't make the whole of the political ideology racist. In fact it is not. But why would they throw people out when they are trying to garner public support? It doesn't make sense. Those are still votes. And we have freedom of association here as well. If people want to say they belong to the Tea Party, how can you really stop that in any legitimate way? If, for example, I say "The FCC sucks, it oversteps its boundaries and the only legitimate purpose it has is to protect against piracy" and some guy from the KKK agrees with me, that doesn't make my original position racist or say anything about myself being racist or endorsing racism. That guy is more than free to agree with me. And if I have some campaign set to bring down the FCC and that guy wants to donate or participate, why should I exclude him? We're working towards a final goal. Now if at the end he says "Hey, I supported you here, how about you help me get rid of all the black people", I'd tell him to take a long walk off a short pier. I don't have to support his racist goals at all.

I don't really like the Tea Party, I think it got captured by the GOP and is now pretty well useless. But at the same accord, I'm not going to get bent out of shape if they have fringe elements in their group. Most groups have fringe elements.

Ahh yes, the clever trap of "the percentage of racists in the Tea Party is not 100%" Well done, sir. I tip my hat to you.

Oh wait, that's precisely what I was saying. Congratulations in steering me into acknowledging reality.
