Steve Martin has nothing to apologize for...

What he posted was funny. People need to chill and get a sense of humor. The great objections are from people who are making a profession out of being offended.

Steve Martin apologizes, offers explanation for 'unfortunate' tweet - CNN.com

I didn't even know about it until now. If your really look at what he said, he apologized that some people would find it offensive and that he tweeted before he thought. Not for what he said. Which is fine, made me laugh.

Some people are so busy trying to be offended about something that they never see the humor in anything.

Steve Martin had nothing to apologize for.

He's a ****ing COMEDIAN who spends his time DISHING on people.

Jesus ****ing christ, people - a comedian has to apologize for a joke that makes fun of people? Comedians have to be PC? As if black people don't joke about white people?

What's next - Key and Peele have to apologize for being racially insensitive?

Yep.

I pity those people who take offense at anything they can.

It was funny but it's often hard to express phonetic based jokes in writing.

Now this is funnier : The name Ladasha can also be spelled L-a.

I really don't see what the big deal is. This Political-Correctness is simply hysterical. The truth is if they'd name their kids normal names they wouldn't have these problems.

I was in the military with a guy who named his daughter "Aquantis Lashantae" and I'm not kidding. I think they just make them up.

I think he is getting a pass on this because he was born a poor black child.

Well, no matter what he meant, it wasn't funny. *shrug*

Note to Tweeters: Lose African-American; Chinese; American Indian; and every other ethnic description from your Tweets. You'll be much less likely to sound like a twit.

Totally agree that it wasn't funny. But, yeah, whatever.

I agree with the OP's point about some people just wanting to be offended, however. I could see Al Sharpton making the a similar statement with the same spelling and claiming that blacks needed it so that they too could be included in the rest of society, that's it's not fair to make them feel bad over something like spelling... and the same people who ridiculed Steve Martin would praise Sharpton for making the suggestion.

I thought it was kinda funny but that's just me.

Did we find out if they were in an African-American neighborhood or an Italian Restaurant?

I found it amusing. Not laugh out loud or anything. Reminded me of the Onion

I agree with the OP.

In my view it draw attention to the over politically correct (some say free speech suppression) direction of the culture and the professional victims always offended leveraging that overly-PC to their greatest advantage.

It's going to continue unabated, further suppressing the right of free speech, until someone or some group of people stand up and say 'enough is enough already'.

This has absolutely NOTHING....I repeat: NOTHING...to do with one's right to free speech!

People!!! Pulleeeze. Enough is enough already.

Someone wrote, "Is this how you spell lasonia?" to which Martin replied: "It depends. Are you in an African-American neighborhood or at an Italian restaurant.

LOL~!!! **** the haters

It reminds me of the Philadelphia Eagles. You've got a Le-Sean and a De-Sean. What's wrong with just plain old Sean?

I find the trend of people jumping on the "people are looking out for things to be offended by" bandwagon truly offensive.

Funny thing is, I know Asians named Suzanne, Amy, Vicky... I can go on...

What? Ignore the pride of heritage and diversity that is worshiped by the politically correct in this great melting pot? Shame on you for trying to hide that which should be openly celebrated. ;)
