State of the Union discussion thread

Then why is he parroting everything being sold by Obama's admin?
Has Obama been all that radical tonight? Or is everything radical because a Dem is speaking?

As much as I respect Obama I'm going back to work on my novel. These speeches are more idealistic than anything with big ego people showing up to be seen and heard. Have fun with the partisan rancor.

I used to work for that company that did the roof on the pentagon after 9/11. Or at least they said they did.

I hope Republicans proceed with this argument.

the mob won't stand for it

that is how we have such a bloated government-those who want big government aren't the ones who have to pay for it

He always sounds less liberal than he acts. That's how he snowed so many voters in the first place.

I watched the ABC broadcast. Tapper said he saw a lot of congressman nudging their opponents seated beside them, a lot of confusion about when to applaud, due in part to inattention.

The partisan divide wasn't as clear here as I recall from past SOTU addresses. I kind of missed it.

I am curious to hear Ryan and Bachmann.

I always read the speeches - I don't watch them. That way I can actually spend an hour reading and fully understanding what's being said.

Overall - in all these years - I've come to take the S-U speech as a formality. It's like a hamburger without the meat - just a squishy bun. There's a pattern - partisan-less - over what's in it and what's not. This never really changes regardless of who is in office and who is in Congress. It's mindless rhetoric that goes into little detail, doesn't stir any pots, and presents nothing that I don't already know about through debate and various reading sources.

Every now and then you'll get a good sig-quote out of it, though :)

This Ryan kid sounds like he means bidness. I like him.
