Sieg Heil! Donald, Mein Fuhrer

You sure about that? Hitler took over the Reichstag by falsely creating that fire. He pinned it on the opposition. That was his MO all over the place. Causing disturbances and conflicts and planting evidence to blame others. He did it in order to take over Austria, Checkhoslovakia, Poland, etc. He invented 'crises' where resident Germans were being attacked and discriminated against and then used them as an excuse to use military power to 'protect' those German citizens, their rights, their property, their lives.

You mean like the liberal candidates keep creating crisises(sp) and then blaming them on the Reps.??? Like how we are seeing liberals attack en masse gatherings of people attending Trump rallies. You see all it takes is to focus on the cherry-picked items that you want to draw a parallel with and you get to make it sound like ANYONE is "just like Hitler". It's a dishonest tactic and one that only illustrates your lack of effort to make intelligent and rational arguments against someone and instead fall back on sad and pathetic tactics like these.

Noooooooooooo. Voting for Clinton is voting for Clinton. Not voting for Trump is not the same thing. To simplify this oh so complex concept, lets say cpwill votes for the libertarian candidate. that makes the total votes, counting only cpwill's votes as 0 for Clinton, 0 for Trump, 1 for whoever the libertarians pick as their candidate. See, there is no vote there for Clinton. You can add zeros and ones, right?

Okay, who is the libertarian candidate?

Godwin's point was a wry observation of the unimaginative over-use of the Hitler comparison. It wasn't that no such comparison could ever be relevant.

He made a good point though in that you can compare, in some ways, every one to Hitler, and they are valid comparisons. Do you breath? Well, hey, so did Hitler. Does Trump use some of the same tactics that Hitler used? Of course, but so does every other single politician since time began. And they are used because they are effective. That does not mean you can call every single politician ever Hitler-like. It means just that you can call them politicians, which is a group that Hitler also belonged to.

To put it another way: if your only argument against Trump, or his policies, is that they are like Hitler, then you have not made a decent argument. Explain instead why Trump, and his policies, are bad for the US. That is a good, solid, effective argument.

Seriously? GWB lying to get us into Iraq. Da King.

See post 34.

Why are we unable to discuss a Republican without you trying to change the subject to Hillary.

To be fair, if you were trying to defend Trump, what would you do?

No, srsly, can we stop it with the Nazi **** for awhile. As bad as Trump is, he is not a ****ing nazi.

Umm actually no we can't do that, because while it is true that people get compared to Nazi's a lot in political discussion the reality is that the rise of Donald Trump is eerily similar to the rise of Adolf Hitler. Trump is the definition of a demagogue. He is in fact a fascist. I for one do not plan on waiting for him to start hauling people off to concentration camps before I recognize what he is, and how dangerous his followers are.

According to Godwin himself:

You know … sure. American history has its own flirtations with fascism and racism and militarism, and people have believed in any and all of these things, so with certain individuals it has to come up from time to time. So it’s not the case that the comparison is never valid. It’s just that, when you make the comparison, think through what you’re saying, because there’s a lot of baggage there, and if you’re going to invoke a historical period with that much baggage you better be ready to carry it.

In other words, if there's enough crap to make the comparison valid, the comparison IS valid.

Progressive, no you are a socialist, obama now that is a fascist for you .

run don run

It was a question directed at that specific poster. It's all he does.

Yeah. But that's kinda all they have. I mean, defending Trump the guy himself is kinda an impossible task in a format where you can be fact-checked.

What is the count now on the "just like Hitler" posts about Donald Trump?

3,000 ??????

Yet they still do not see how stupid they make themselves look historically and common sense wise.

Brownshirts are out in force, I see.

yes, you are onto us.

We have nightly meetings to discuss how to rule the world....
.and make your milk spoil,
and make your vehicle not start,
and make the rain fall on you
and control your internet

and...of course, set up Donald Trump as the new Fuhrer in a Nazi controlled United States.

YUP, you are onto us.

BTW....your tin foil hat is on a little crooked.

They are having their convention next week to find out. The three leading contenders are Gary Johnson, John McAfee, and Austin Petersen.

Between the three, I prefer Austin Petersen (sadly, my declaration of preference here in this space will -if history is a guide- ensure the death of his candidacy).

Rumor has it that William Weld, former governor of MA, will be the winning candidate's pick for VP. I like Weld.

(doing a "spoil your milk" spell as you speak)

we are a very dangerous lot not to be trifled with.

:) I made the direct comparison using one of the leading historical scholars in the field. Please feel free to address it.

He's Johnson's pick, I don't think McAfee or Petersen want him (but, as I understand it, the convention decides the VP pick separately, so their ability to steer the nomination would be influence-only).

I'm not a huge Weld fan - the man endorsed Barack Obama in 2008, and has a history of gun-grabbing. That strikes me as sort of odd in a Libertarian Candidate. It's an oddity in that race that the governors (who I would typically gravitate towards) hold positions that I can't support that are un-Libertarian... in the Libertarian party.

Don't feel too bad, cpwill. There's still one candidate you've supported that didn't drop out!

In the beginning, Hitler wasn't as bad as Hitler would one day become.

Yes he was... The only difference is in the beginning, he didn't have the power to execute his plans. What he preached prior to 1933, is what he preached after he became chancellor and eventually set into motion.

I can see we have vastly different view on what make up "scholarly" prose.

It is like the American Heroes Channel (AHC)...waaay too much OBSESSION with HITLER.

They cannot see how that stupid comparison has been used over and over again, ad nauseum, for anyone and everyone they disagree with.

It has lost all meaning and effectiveness
has been used on this forum about 3,000 times
only reflects badly on those that actually believe that nonsense
makes the believers as closed minded as the Nazis they detest

anyone remember the Nazi salute thread not too long ago on here? Where the people were photographed at an angle to make them look like they were giving the Nazi (actual Roman) salute.

There is not way to INTELLIGENTLY discuss this stupidity. It is stupid on its face, and only those who have developed a taste for the Kool-Aid served believe any of it.
