Rush Limbaugh Goes Full-Tilt Racial Slur with "Or-Bam-eo" Cookies (1 Viewer)

Here is what I don't get about Rush. He expects to be taken seriously, yet anytime he says something that gets him in trouble he claims it was a joke. He can't have it both ways. Either he is nothing but an entertainer and people should not take his work seriously or he is a legitimate voice in the political sphere and should be held responsible for his comments.

Bingo! We have a winner.

I tend to agree that people are too thin-skinned about racism, but I disagree that this is one of those times. He made a joke at the expense of a person's race. This wasn't seeing racism where there is none.

I'd be pretty offended no matter who said this. The righties are predictably jumping in and defending Rush no matter what he says. What does he have to do for it to be considered racist? I swear he could jump up and down and scream "Obama's a N-ger!! Obama's a N-ger!!" and the right here would still be telling us how it's not racist.

Why do Cons watch MSNBC?

And yet there was no outrage over remarks about Herman Caine, Condi Rice, etc. SOME people have no probably tossing out the "house nigger", "porch monkey" labels to conservative black types...no one bats an eyelash. As for defending Limbaugh...I dont know...Ive seen several people with fairly liberal to moderate ideologies in this thread alone give the comment a "meh...it aint racist...its just bad humor" reply while you call it a racist comment. Racism is in the eye of the beholder. They DISAGREE with you...that doesnt mean they are racist or defending Rush Limbaugh. I dont know why anyone listens to or watches ANY of them. I listened to Sean Hannity on the radio ONCE for about 5 minutes...and everything he says is a nasally run on sentence in the exact same verbal syntax. How can you even STAND that? It seems like it has to be a type of TURTURE. Anyone that listens to that must be TONE DEAF.

Why do Cons watch MSNBC?

From their ratings...not many of cons or libs watch MSNBC.

Yet another Fox believer drinks the Fox Kool Aid.

Fox's ratings are completely misleading. Yes, they certainly dominate "Cable News". Where else are the conservatives to go? When you consider the fact that the liberals split their viewership amongst various cable channels and network news channels, Fox no longer dominates in that arena.

That's just it though. It might be tasteless, but to call it racism is bowing to the thin skinned broadening of the words definition.

When I was a child I read a little book of clean and fairly harmless "Polish Jokes". I knew very little of Polish people but even as a kid I understood that the jokes were, well... jokes. And that Poles were not really dimwitted etc.

People have made jokes about Limbaugh concerning his weight. It could be said that Al Franken is where he is today in part because of his book with a title calling Limbaugh fat. I find this tasteless too. But I see no reason for it to be off limits.

Tasteless humor is not "yelling fire in a crowded theater". And it is often dumb. Like it is in this case, imo.

Also like the post up there with the picture of rednecks. That sort of "humor" reveals something about the thought of the person making a bad joke, but it's only that a joke or slur that only a narrow minded person would find insightful, and only a fussbudget would find overly offensive.

Mine was simply to prove how easily people fall into traps...

But hey, I'm not shocked that some can't quite grasp it.

The irony is thick in the post above. I must have touched a raw nerve in the right wing for people to simply feel insulted by the thought that their ideology is a xenophobic relic of time. I'm sorry the overwhelming majority of people don't believe in the xenophobia which most Conservatives subscribe to. As I told Navy Pride, one day we'll live in an era where people no longer think that a name is strange simply because they haven't heard of it. One day we'll live in a society where mythological nonsense is put before commonsense. The right wing will cease to exist. It lives in a vacuum of ignorance and obsession with self preservation, and Rush Limbaugh is the torch bearer guiding your beliefs to a cliff.

LOL, you'd have to have some cred to "touch a raw nerve". So a Keith Olbermann wannabe doesn't like the right wing and wants to insult us, there's nothing particularly new or, even interesting about that. That the irony of someone claiming to have such enlightened beliefs just cannot fathom those who have opposing views as anything short of evil or whatever is lost on you, doesn't surprise me. I actually feel kinda bad for you. I have liberal friends here that challenge my beliefs, and, because they don't have the need to vilify everyone who just happens to disagree with them, I respect their POV. Sure, the impulse is to fall back on bashing the left as a counter to your nonsense, but it wouldn't be fair, and, quite frankly, I'd just as soon not be like you.

Yeah, you're a real mystery. LOL.

I dont watch network or cable news, dumbass. Fox is no different than CNN or any of the rest of them. They ALL have a slant. Anyone that says they dont is simply a moron defending their slant. Anyone that truly BELIEVES they dont is simply a moron...period.

Which part is false?. . .
What's sad is that you're an apologist for a racist who has managed to perfect the art of not stepping out of bounds.
I am impressed with how little you know. Really impressed.

Forty percent of the nation self identify as conservative. About twenty percent claim liberalism/progressive.

The nation was founded upon the concept of a constitutionally limited government. That is the core conservative political belief. We do not intend for the government to get so large and to illegitimately involve itself in so many things as to bankrupt the nation, to impoverish its citizens and to harass and hound us at every turn.

I don't think they have a slant. I think they are ruled by eyeballs.

Who said anything about evil? You're not evil. Your beliefs are outdated, but evil? That's a word left to those who believe in the mythological beings. Here I'll make it simple for you. Conservatism isn't evil, it's just a sociologically inferior ideology destined to fall through the cracks of civilization. If a 10 year old told me he bases his understanding of the world around what his imaginary friend tells me, I'd call him silly. If an adult did it, I'd call a doctor for him. Your ideology is simply incompatible with the flow of history. You're holding on to beliefs that have been left behind by the overwhelming majority of people in the industrialized world. Conservatism is an ideology which seeks to control the individual and by extension the rest of society itself by putting us all under the blanket of your social and moral beliefs. The only thing you can blame for the extinction of your ideology is the inherently Conservative refusal to advance with the rest of the world.

Well then, two wrongs make a right, I guess.

I never said anybody was racist for defending Rush Limbaugh. I said he made a racist joke. Which is true. If the tables are ever turned on Cain, I'll bet most of the people who don't give a crap about this will be all over it.

What Rush said was offensive. Go ahead and disagree with me, but that's how I see it.

Conservatism is not an outdated tendency or outlook. It stands right up there with the notions of your progression or liberal tendencies, which carries the social and political will. There will always be those who take a step back and say, "this is good enough" or "the past was better" or "we need to change the direction we are heading." It is not an inferior ideology, it has hardly ever fallen through the cracks of civilization, and it is certainly not incompatible with history. It existed in Cato, it existed after that, and exists with us since Reagan. If I were you, I would spend a great deal more time reading and researching history rather than pontificating with such certainty about liberalism and its place in history and continue to misunderstand the interaction between conservatism and liberalism.

One day we'll live in a society where mythological nonsense is put before commonsense. The right wing will cease to exist. It lives in a vacuum of ignorance and obsession with self preservation, and Rush Limbaugh is the torch bearer guiding your beliefs to a cliff.

What is more mythological nonsense than this? Go ahead and use your common sense and intuition of history, for a change. Well, perhaps you shouldn't. It has clearly treated you like Brutus.

I pointed out that there are people here...NOT conservatives...that disagree with you on his comments as to whether or not they are racist. Thats all. Jon Stewart had a nice little bit on the whole black cloud thing. Race and racism is found comfortably in the eye (and usually the agenda) of the beholder. As to whether or not his comments were offensive...Offensive to WHO? Who gives a ****?

Yes, that's cute and all. 40% of this country thinks the 1770s were a better time in history. That's not something even most people from the 1770s would agree with.

I can guess your answer but want to ask. Do you object to a constitutionally limited form of government?

And just for fun, is it your opinion that 40% of this country thinks the 1770s were a better time in history?
I love straw men. Don't you? They are so easily made and so easily toppled.

Hear! Hear! I remember that controversy with the Curious George t-shirt. Some people apparently think anything that resembles a racial slur, even if the context suggests it is anything but, is automatically virulent racism.

I seem to recall a similar joke on Seinfeld 10 years ago. He had the black and white cookie - they didn't quite get along quite well and caused him to throw-up. I don't recall Seinfeld being called racist at the time. Who knew.

Racism is sometimes funny.

This should have been a skit on his show.

That's one of the bests posts I've ever read X, bravo. :D
