Ron DeSantis uses ‘monkey’ to describe Andrew Gillum agenda; Democrats brand it racist

as a constitutionalist, I must defend De Santis' right to free speech.

As a "Constitutionalist"... one would think you'd know that this isn't a First Amendment issue.
Not relevant.
At all.

You would have to ask him that silly question.

I agree with your first sentence. I strongly object, as a tax payer, when my tax dollars are wasted on a war brought under fraud. How can it be right if it requires tax payers to be fleeced for military expenditures that do nothing at all to defend this country?

Taxes are inevitable, I know, and what is important is how the tax dollars are spent. I would much rather my tax dollars be spent on healthcare for you and your family instead of on bogus and immoral military aggression.

I think a lot on the left have a hard time separating political talk from facts. The left likes to claim healthcare is a right. Then, many of the followers forget to think, and take it as fact. It is, of course, not a right. Rights are very basic things. Life, liberty, etc... those are rights. Cave men had them. Every person is born with them. No one is born with a "right" to healthcare. If a political party wants to take from others and give to others, that's something else, certainly not a right.

The fact that you hear the word "monkey" and immediately associate it with black people says a lot more about you than this DiSantos guy.

Some people see the world entirely through the lense of race and assume everyone else must as well. These are the same people who claim “dog whistles” when they’re the only ones that actually hear it, which is interesting when you think about it.

Oh for lawds sakes Byrds history with The kkk was 40 years old by the time he made good with Hillary Etc and modern dems, he had long since abandoned them and he had apologized for his past over and over and over again . you need to let this one go. LOL You not only left out Jesse Helms and Mills E. Godwin Jr. who also switched parties but you fail to address the fact that the racist voters of the south began to elect Republicans. All of the hate is now a mainstay of the GOP. You must be proud.

Great. So how was this a dog whistle? And why do only liberals hear them?

You mean only liberals are pointing it out. Dog whistles are supposed to be secret by nature. The intended audience heard this one loud and clear.

Totally assuming thats true. Thats 3 out of 200. If you can buy that I will give you 3 dollars for 200 any day of the week.

You must be proud.

Nah, a most of them and their ideas died out with their Dixiecrat leaders. These days, racism is more concentrated in the Northeast and North Central areas of the country now than in the South. Places like the Rust Belt and Appalachia. Ohio, New York, Pennsylvania, West Virginia. At least that which is aimed toward black people.

You're talking about politicians, I'm talking about the electorate, the group of people who actually decide who wins and loses.

Well, one thing is certain, they are voting for republicans, the south used to be largely democratic now it aint.

When LBJ was congratulated by his vice president for getting the Civil rights bill passed, LBJ lamented that it cost him the south. It's the big reason he didnt seek reelection.

It don't matter what you call yourself, what matters is whom you caucus with.

Bernie Sanders calls himself an independent, but he caucus with dems 95% of the time.

LOL I live in Florida and racism is very much alive in the natives and they all vote Republican. Our saving grace is the migration from the north and our minority populations. There is nothing more childish than arguing that the heart of racism against blacks is not in the slave/segregationist and now blood red States. It is pointless and stupid. Nixon promised the Dixiecrats that the GOP would never pursue racial equality issues again and they kept their promise. When LBJ signed the CRA he knew the Dems would lose the south and they did.

So you ripped off a quote... didn't source it and called it a day didja?

Well, one thing is certain, they are voting for republicans, the south used to be largely democratic now it aint. .

I agree. But the reason was largely economic. Race..not so much.

"The data show that blacks did not switch from Republican to Democratic in the 1960s. They did not do it because
of civil rights. Rather, a majority of blacks became Democrats in the 1930s. This was at a time when the
Democratic Party was manifestly the party of segregation and the Ku Klux Klan. FDR, who got less than
one-third of the black vote in 1932, got 75 percent of the black vote in
1936.
Why would blacks leave the party of emancipation and resistance to segregation and lynching and join
the party of bigotry and white supremacy? The depressing answer
is that blacks did it in exchange for the pittance that they got from FDR’s New Deal. We have seen
earlier how FDR designed the New Deal to exclude African Americans and preserve Jim Crow. How
delighted and amused FDR must have been to see blacks coming over to his camp even as his
administration worked closely with racist Democrats to screw themover. It should be noted, in mitigation
of this horrible decision on the part of African Americans—and it was a horrible decision—that conditions
for blacks during the Great Depression were almost inconceivably bad. Historian Ira Katznelson points out that median
black family income was around $500 a year, which means most blacks lived at subsistence level
without electricity, hot water, refrigeration, adequate plumbing or gas for cooking. “Under these circumstances,” Katznelson writes, New Deal benefits “limited though they were” and “however discriminatory” still offered some
relief and solace to a “desperate population.”39"
So FDR bought off the African American vote at a bargain-basement price in the 1930s. Yet this secured the
Democrats a decisive, but not unanimous, black vote.-Death of a Nation

South of the lake, we're immigrants and old people. North of the lake is South Georgia.

Great. So how was this a dog whistle? And why do only liberals hear them?

Imaginary magic secret codes would be pretty cool! Like a phone that only rings when someone calls you specifically...oh..

Great. So how was this a dog whistle? And why do only liberals hear them?

It's the ones who pretend not to hear them and deny their existence are the ones you have to worried about.

You mean only liberals are pointing it out. Dog whistles are supposed to be secret by nature. The intended audience heard this one loud and clear.

Well, its not very 'secret' if you hear it. Plus, it seems a bit odd that you are so in tune to what racists want and need to hear, no?

It's the ones who pretend not to hear them and deny their existence are the ones you have to worried about.

None of you have bothered to explain how this was a 'dog whistle' other than you heard someone on TV say it so you swallowed it hook line and sinker. Explain to me why Joe Racist in Florida needs a racial signal to vote for a white guy against a black guy. Do you honestly believe that a guy who hates black people is unsure of how they will vote this fall and is awaiting some sort of signal? Seriously, it would be nice if you guys actually thought things through once in a while.

I can see how you might think that, given the people you've chosen to surround yourself with, but actual research shows otherwise.

More about that research and how it was done.

The Most Racist Areas in America, According to Science

If you go up to someone and ask them if they’re racist, chances are they’re going to tell you they’re not. Why would they? After all, some of their best friends are black, dontchaknow?
Of course, this makes measuring levels of racism a little tricky, since there’s no good way to ask people if they’re racist without, well, asking them if they’re racist. Or at least, it used to be tricky, but then Google came along.
In 2015, the peer-reviewed scientific journal, PLOS ONE, published a study that sidestepped directly talking to people, and turned instead to looking at what people were typing into Google. Turns out, folks tend to be a lot more open about their secret racism when they’re alone in their homes, searching for information on the internet. Whodathunkit, right?

For better or worse, someone is always watching everything you do online. Whether it’s Facebook tracking every post you Like, every article you Share, and every ad you click on, or it’s Google monitoring each and every single thing you search for on the internet, Big Data is always there, watching everyone and using what it sees to build little digital versions of each of us..................

Analyzing the information collected by Big Data is a powerful tool that often results in computers knowing more about each of us than we're comfortable admitting about ourselves.

Which is where this study comes in. It separated the country into media markets, then analyzed what people were typing into Google in each of them. The study looked for search queries using the “N-word” from 2004-2007, then correlated those searches with existing data regarding previous measures of racial attitudes, along with US Census Bureau data and National Center for Health Statistics on black mortality rates.

Yeah, that’s a lot of information to try and process - but all you need to know is that they crunched the numbers and were able to use all that data to measure area racism levels across the country.

SPOILER ALERT: Southeast Texas and Southwest Louisiana top the list.
While it shouldn’t come as much of a shock to anyone living in the South that we have a significant problem with race relations, the large swath of racism cutting through the Northeast might surprise you. In fact, the study suggests that more areas of intense racism actually occur in the rural Northeast than in the South.

Of course, being a proper scientific study, it took time to develop and process before publishing, which is why the sample data is from 2004-2007 instead of anything more recent. However, given the current political climate and some of the rhetoric we’ve all heard with increasing frequency lately, there’s no reason to suspect things have really improved over the past decade.

In fact, they've probably only gotten worse.

I think it would very interesting overlay this map with one that depicts which areas of the country voted heavily for Trump to see how well they would match up. My suspicion is that there would be a high degree of correlation between the two.

Great. So how was this a dog whistle? And why do only liberals hear them?

No, not only liberals hear them. The intended target hears them...Democrats are just well aware of their use.

Why do you think the call them dog whistles? A dog whistle is not a blaring...in your face whistle.

It's under the radar...so to speak.

These code words are subtle and subconscious. Even his use of the term and words could be in and of itself...subconscious.

I equated it more to a Freudian slip.

As to you guys not thinking at all? It's a page right out of the Trump playbook. Keeping your base engaged by stirring them up.

Well, what do you know? Via the wonders of the internet I was able to find a map of how the 2016 election broke down in terms of media markets nationally and it would appear the two maps share a striking amount of similarities.
