Results in whats been called a 10 Billion dollar trade deal which includes new deals between major Indian and American corporations. The list from the BBC goes as follows:

* The sale by Boeing of 30 new 737 aircraft to private Indian airline SpiceJet. The White House says this will help support over 12,000 US jobs.
* Preliminary agreement had been reached on the Indian purchase of 10 Boeing C-17s military transport planes.
* The sale by GE of fighter 107 F414 jet engines to the Indian military.
* A separate deal with GE worth $500m (£309m) for the sale of six heavy duty gas turbines and three steam turbines to India's Reliance Energy Ltd.
* Harley-Davidson plans a new plant in India to assemble American-made motorcycle kits.
* The White House said India had identified GE subsidiary GE Transportation, based in Erie, Pennsylvania, and Electro-Motive Diesel, of LaGrange, Illinois, a unit of Caterpillar Inc, as bidders to supply Indian railways with over 1,000 diesel locomotives over 10 years.

The One spent $2 billion to go to India, just to outsource some jobs?

No

The US will manufacture all of the parts, put the parts in a big box, send the box to India where final assembly will occur, where the motorcycles will be sold in India not in the US, net gain to the US

Did no one hear that Obama has always wanted to attended the Indian Festival of Light, and low and behold that is going on now.

Are the jobs going from America to India, or are they being created in India?
Well, I think you could legitimately say that the motorcycle assembly jobs is outsourcing. If they did not assemble them in India, they'd be assembled here in the US.

In any case, NONE of this is a direct result of Obama's trip. The trip is simply being used to announce the deal. The trip, in and of itself, did not cause ANY of this to happen.

As Lord Tammerlain said, these bikes will be sold in India, so there is no transfer of jobs from America to India, just the creation of jobs in India.

Sure there is a transfer... the assembly jobs.

If the motorcycles are to be sold here, they need to be assembled... if they are to be sold in India, they STILL need to be assembled. Normally, they'd be assembled here. Instead, they are being assembled in India.

India most likely has a high tariff on assembled transportation products in order to encourage the manufacture or at least assembly of those goods in India, without being assembled in India the price of those motorcycles would be very high, most likely resulting in very few sales. By providing kits for assembly in India, more motorcyles will be sold, employeing more americans.

BMW, MB and most german automakers follow the same route when selling cars in quite a few countries.

FYI, the jobs are not transferred if they would not have existed in the first place

I don't care where the motorsickles are being sold, it still amounts to American jobs being shipped off to India.

Regardless of this.

Would you in the interests of fairness and "objectivity" you accused me of not having earlier. Recant your false statements regarding the costs of obamas trip?

Or do you wish to continue propagating this falsity?

Just wondering. Or was this the part that you restored honor?

So, if something that would not sell, does sell, and the parts to make them are made in America, but they are assembled in India, so that both countries benefit, this somehow is not making jobs. Thank you for clearing this up.

My statements, as to the cost of Obama's trip, aren't false.

No, it's Indian jobs being created in India, there will be no jobs lost in America.

One unconfirmed source from a foreign newspaper?

Care to prove it sir?

Again was this the part where "honor is restored"?

Where do you get the idea that these bikes are going to be sold, strictly in India? 'Cause Lord Tammerlain says so?

How many average Indians can afford a $20,000 Harley? Let's get real, for a minute.

Harley-Davidson to build bikes in India - CNN

The "complete knock down" plant or CKD is expected to be up and running in the northern Indian state of Haryana in first half of 2011. Parts made in America will be put together for the Indian market in Haryana.
See, they'll be sold in India

India is the second fastest growing two-wheeler market in the world behind China. More than 10 million two-wheelers were sold in India in the 2009-2010 fiscal year. Beyond the obvious market potential there is another major reason Harley-Davidson is building an assembly plant in India -- to bring down India's import duties which right now are so high Indian consumers pay double for fully assembled imported vehicles. Exporting just the parts to India could lower the import duty tariffs by around 80 percent according to Prakash.
Obviously quite a large market for motorbikes.

So our President has to take a trip over there so they can get some new jobs but the asshole cannot find a way to put Americans back to work.

there's a lot of supposition in those statements. Without something to back them up, that's pretty much all you have there... supposition.

If this was going to result in an increase in sales, why did Harley just recently sign contracts with it's union that will result on hundreds of layoffs? In fact, the Kansas City plant has laid off 400-500 people in the last few years. You think they'd want to gain back some of those jobs here in the states. Instead, they will be sending them to India.

Who do you think is building the bikes the Indians assemble?

And I suggest reading the CNN article in the OP

Obama announced Saturday that about 54,000 U.S. jobs will be created by $10 billion in new contracts for the Indian government and private companies here to buy a slew of American products, including jet airplanes from Boeing as well as engines and gas turbine technology from General Electric.
