Speaking on the House floor some weeks ago Louis Gohmert, Republican Congressman from Texas, made statements to the effect that President Obama is somehow complicit in helping to establish an international Islamic caliphate. A man like this deserves special recognition; he should be rewarded by his constituency with a new title befitting his accomplishments. Something commensurate with his amazing intellect.
Question for Texans: Should Louis Gohmert henceforth be known as:
1. The Stupidest Man in Congress?
2. The Stupidest Man Who Ever Served in Congress?, or
3. The Stupidest Man Who Ever Lived?

Probably everything Gohmert says should be posted under conspiracy theories. I wonder why he's not a GOP presidential candidate? He sure sounds like one.

UGGGGGG is all I can say.

I'm a 5th generation Texan

In all do honesty - he's a bit of a fool but there are many others who are more offensive and annoying than him.

Kinda like this guy, I agree there are a lot of dumb asses in congress, about 90 percent of them.

Thats for sure. Just look at Senator James Inhofe from the great state of Oklahoma; he's pretty stupid too.

Maybe if we add some context we won't jump to the wrong conclusion. His comments start around 6:10.

He starts by praising a fallen soldier from his district. Then he turns to foreign policy. He ends by claiming the inaction of the administration is complicit with aiding in the creation of an Islamic Caliphate.

That is easily debatable, but it is not a wild conspiracy theory...just speculation that is absolutely normal in politics and life.

The man can make those statements because he will probably be applauded by his consituents and re-elected. He probably can't be touched in Texas but he can say things to damage the President's image. I am not convinced that he actually believes it himself but he can say it just the same. You call him stupid. I just see a another polticians saying whatever he thinks he can get away with.

Just normal speculation; I see.
Sort of like when certain people speculate about President Obama's birthplace or religion.

You're probably right about that. How could anyone be stupid enough to actually believe the things he says? Even in Texas.

Wouldn't it be more accurate to ask the people of his specific district? GovTrack.us shows 32 districts in Texas. Can't indicate the entire state for Gohmert.

The two things are not similar.

The two things are not similar.
The two aren't just similar, they're exactly the same. All from the same play book; all the same kind of superficial rhetoric designed to deligitimize President Obama while pandering to the lowest common denominators. The sort of shrill, simple minded vitriol that evidently appeals to the "fair and balanced" folks.

com·plic·it  [kuhm-plis-it]
adjective
Choosing to be involved in an illegal or questionable act, especially with others;

Please explain how Obama and the US government are intentionally attempting to bring about a worldwide Islamic Caliphate.

There is no debate. That's a wild and unsubstantiated accusation.

Is your snark and overgeneralizing keeping you above the fray?

So it is only republicans that do that? Oh ok.

I didn't say they were. I just said that it is a legitimate argument that inaction is analogous to being complicit.

I seem to recall a lot of people liking Louie Gohmert's flat-tax idea.

I've personally met Louis Gohmert, and found him to be a man of integrity, and who cares for who he represents. So please understand if i am skeptical and request a source?

Ah yes. More democrat spin :) Just as i thought!

Even if you are right, which clearly has been shown, you are not...wouldn't it be even stupider to buy the words of his democrat opponent? Perhaps you need to send us better democrats and our district might consider it.

And you would be wrong. Inaction, in this case, is due to the genuine fact that there is no real threat of a international caliphate coming into existence. It's not an actual problem that needs solving. That would be nearly opposite to working in concert to make such an outcome occur. Complicity requires intent, as opposed to completely not giving a crap because it's meaningless.

Diversionary nonsense is apparently all the "fair and balanced" folks have to work with; lacking any actual substance on real issues.

Ok, but both are speculative. He speculates that inaction would cause an international caliphate and you speculate that it won't. That doesn't mean he is a nut, just that he has a different opinion.
