Publisher of National Enquirer admits paying hush money to help Trump ahead of 2016 election

AMI admitted, in court, that they paid $150,000 in hush money to avoid a story getting out that would have embarrassed the campaign. They made no pretense about it having any impact on his private life, it was all about the election. That's an illegal campaign contribution, and it's a federal felony.

When a federal prosecutor looks into a federal crime, that's not an "abuse of power." That's "doing their job."

By the way, SDNY is headed up by a Trump appointee. Just FYI.

Adding another player to the picture of intent about the pornstar payoffs. Making it a conspiracy to defraud the election.

Mueller has nothing to do with this. It is the SDNY who will be prosecuting this

Either way, come testimony time there will be an assload of pecker information cumming out.

How can Trump be 'clean' if he directed people to pay hush money to mistresses during campaigns? That is money spent for campaign purposes that was never declared. That is simply illegal.

And if pecker struck an immunity deal that means they got him doing something worth singing about.

And with an immune pecker, he wil **** a lot of trumpers over.

If the pecker has immunity, why is it so leaky?

Because he can't stand erect in front of honest scrutiny. He just doesn't have the sack for it.

Blah, blah, blah.

Just another case of the out of control SDNY going after someone for something that isn't a crime. I think there's a term for groups that promise not to hurt someone as long as that someone tells them what they want to hear......oh yeah, "extortionist".

It's really sad that one of the top legal authorities is abusing its powers so badly and it's an absolute shame that nobody is there to question them, much less stop them.

Sounds like you think trump is getting the shaft from Pecker.

This is all stuff we knew about years ago, we voted for Trump anyways.

What this proves is that the FAILED INTELLIGENTSIA! has come up empty, they need to spin the Trump we know and voted for into evil criminal.....which means that Trump is essentially clean.

Right you knew he was illegally influencing the election by using secret payments to his bimbo's, and negotiating a Trump Tower Moscow with Putin while denying any deals with Russians. What does that make you then for voting for a lying crook? Who wold break any law to be elected while enriching himself.

Blah, blah, blah...

Just another case of having to pretend the SDNY is 'out of control' and that what happened wasn't a crime.

It's really sad when someone has to have the security blanket/safe space of imagining the top legal authorities are abusing their powers in this case, and an absolutely shame that you think anyone rational believes the baseless tripe you just posted.
Media bias is a crime?

the will of the half of Americans who voted for and elected the candidate that wasn't Hillary.

Well, the first thing I want to say is..."Mandate My Ass!"
Because it seems as though we've been convinced
That 26% of the registered voters
Not even 26% of the American people
But 26% of the registered voters form a mandate ...
Or a landslide ...

21% voted for Skippy
And 3, 4% voted for somebody else
Who might have been running

Turns out that David Pecker and the National Enquirer has been cooperating with investigators in order to avoid prosecution.

I know Trump must feel bad about this. Losing your Pecker can be a pretty traumatic experience.

According to Stormy, he never had much of one in the first place.... so, why should he feel the loss?

No, you did not know about illegal payoffs nor did you know about Stormy or Karen before the election. Given that Trump won by a mere 80,000 votes, the outcome of the election was likely at stake. This was a material fraud.

You are missing the point. Buying a story to kill it on behalf of the candidate when the story could have changed the outcome of the election is a crime.

To catch everybody up...

So the long and short of this story is, Trump bragged about having unprotected sex with porn stars while also having an immune Pecker in his back pocket that's leaking testimony, giving Trump the shaft.

Couldn't happen to a bigger dick.

I am getting tired of recycled year old news or older....

There is a job to get done, and the hour is late..... the best Anti Trump story that can be told without laughter must be told now.

"Hi! We're the US attorneys from the Southern District of New York. We'd like you to admit to paying off a couple of bimbos for Donald Trump. If you don't say what we want we're going to sue you and it will likely cost you $5 million dollars or more whether you beat us or not so, what do you say?"

Mueller ≠ SDNY

They're separate investigations. SDNY was led to this by looking into Stormy Daniels, not by anything from Mueller.

Right. That's exactly what I said. Mueller doesn't have the goods so he's getting someone else to find another "crime". It's all about finding a way to impeach Trump and make a solid political statement that only someone from the political class is entitled to a high level elected office. Should the people vote for an outsider they MUST be shown the error of their ways.

No it does not work that way. And AMI can afford a big lawsuit. The guy did it, he confessed to it, that's all there is to it. So did Trump.

If he hadn't done something impeachable they wouldn't be find something to impeach him about.

It's nonsense conspiracy theories at this point to pretend Trump's hands are clean, not with all the evidence and court cases out there already. Congress, DOJ, SDNY, Saturday Nigfht Live - they're all out to 'pick on' the most powerful man in the world? It's obvious he's a crook by now - they're not making this up.

Weird how all these people are pleading guilty to things that aren’t crimes...

I won't be the only one. I'm sure I'll have some stiff competition.

What's so amazing is how right wingers now must assume corruption on the part of the Trump DoJ and a Trump appointed USA in order to defend people who broke the law. Given that the indirect defendant is President of the United States Trump, who is a self professed billionaire, and not some poor black street dealer, the odds are nearly 100% that what Pecker told prosecutors is the TRUTH, and again, given the stakes, it's roughly the same probability that the truth is backed up with objective evidence, emails, documents, phone calls, perhaps many others party to discussions, versus he said/he said.
