I'm the first one to be in favor of "fix the police, reform the police, reboot the police, reimagine policing"...the slogan itself --- DEFUND the Police is offensive to ANYONE who
wants competent and rational law enforcement, because it SUGGESTS getting rid of policing altogether, and it is disingenuous to suggest that only affluent white people are offended by it
because the numbers are in from EVERY community.
The slogan "Defund the Police" is a fail.
While some believe defunding the police is a call to get rid of law enforcement completely, many activists behind the slogan intended to make a more nuanced argument for police budgets to be steered toward community social programs so officers were less often required to take on roles better suited to social workers.
Then
MAKE a more nuanced argument.
You appear unable to view the issue of police reform BEYOND idiotic slogans.
We are not talking about the protests, we are not talking about George Floyd, we are not talking about anything other than the actual SLOGAN ITSELF.
From a marketing standpoint, the slogan did DAMAGE to Democratic campaigns...not because affluent white people were offended but because most people
do not want to do what the slogan appears to suggest. They want cops to do their jobs properly, that's all.
