Progressive does not mean ultra-socialist or super-liberal

Some people don't like to be called "liberals" because the right wing has so demonized the term in the last 30 years or so, constantly equating "liberal" with "socialist" or "communist," two labels that in this country are regarded as Very Bad.

Actually, today's liberals are more "fascist." They're all about private property....but under governmental control (which basically negates the whole "private" thing). Perhaps if they didn't have a leader (0bama) hellbent on socialistic tendencies, the "socialist" label would fall off. Unfortunately though, I think 0bama is a closet socialist. Y'all liberals just refuse to look in that closet to see the real 0bama.

Oh, and anyone who simple-mindedly thinks that government and liberty and two ends of a spectrum clearly need a lot of history lessons, as a public government, like the one we have here in the US, is the best way to stave off horrific abuses of privately controlled power. Private control of power, like medieval kings and emperors, and the dictators of today like Kim Jong Un, engage unfailingly in the most horrific abuses of power and destruction of liberties. Public power is the antithesis of tyranny. Only when some are powerful and others are powerless is there oppression. When everyone holds the power together, then there is liberty.

I understand that the term PROGRESSIVE is a really positive one. Who wants to be a regressive? Nobody. Nobody would go and call himself: hello, I'm a regressive. So the fact that the extreme left took this word and made it it's own is a really disgusting affair. time to take the word away from them and make it what it really is supposed to mean.

This is what a progressive SHOULD look like:
-If you are anti-partisanship and think that de-facto allegiance to a party is bad, then you are a progressive
-If you think that it's a good idea to have tehnocrats in government instead of people who earned political favors from those in power, you are a progressive
-If you think that instead of throwing money at a problem we should put brainpower to solving it first, you are a progressive.
-If you think that equality should only be in face of the law, and not force everyone to obey the same set of rules that YOU are comfortable with, then you truly are a progressive
-If you deny the hippy agenda that everyone is THE SAME and understand that the dumbest kind of diversity is racial/sexuality diversity.... and that the real kind of diversity is in thoughts, education, background ,experience basically what makes you an unique human being, then you truly are a progressive
-If you support secularism and don't want to live under a theocracy, but still understand and support the right of religious institutions to exist, then you are a progressive.
-If you think that education should be a process by which individuals discover themselves and it should be tailored to suit the needs of the people receiving that eduaction, and not to fulfill a bureaucratic checklist, then you are a progressive.
-If you think a job/award/position should go to the best qualified individual instead of having the primary target to accomplish a certain quota by race/gender, then you are a progressive
-If you think that supporting scientific advancement and a cultural environment that promotes the real kind of exceptionalism is a good thing, then you are a progressive
-If you do not try and shut up unpopular opinions and support their right and defend them for saying those things, you are a progressive.


So my dear friends, this what a real progressive should be. And because the people who are exactly the opposite of this have hijacked this term and are using it as cheap PR propaganda to make themselves look good is disgusting and needs to be stopped.

Y'all 'conservatives' need to look at what your country's become and ask yerselves what it is you're conserving.
And then ask yoursel if maybe you shouldn't make yourself look ridiculous making dumb blanket slurs that anyone with a three-digit IQ will snicker at while scrolling by.

Cons also think they've claimed ownership of the term, 'patriot'. They don't realize that conservativism is the most negative force at work in American society and is slowly but surely dragging America down to third-world status.

The touchiness comes from assuming a degree of accuracy in the use of language. An inappropriate assumption, which returns us to 'y'all' and 'yerself'.

I do not like to speak in generalizations; however, the conservatives in the U.S. have co-opted many things they know voters like. The flag. "Values." And, yes, "patriot." If there's one thing the GOP has done well, it's messaging. Until the old white guys start yammering on about rape.

The spectrum is actually pretty accurate in terms of total government vs. total freedom.
