Priyanka Chopra marries Nick Jonas

Is that how people should find relationships to you? Whether they would be an ideal power couple famewise? She should marry the most famous actor in India instead?

seems kind of shallow lol

And I mean... Jonas is still a celebrity a lot of people know....

Again, I am just having a conversation about why the couple seems strange to me. I am not making any those claims.

But..... that is your claim xD.... you gave it as one of your reasons you thought it was strange...

And I just find your reasoning strange...

I am not really comfortable with your original post. It subtly bashed Christians as intolerant and was pushing racial Asian stereotypes that Asians are too career focused.

Or maybe...they love each other?

Are you offended as a Christian? I am curious...

Yes, How is that relevant to this conversation sheWolf?

Most Christians I know are not extremists. They wouldn't do-own a family member if they dated outside of their religion like on prominent religion I know in the Middle East.

Why would a strong Christian be comfortable with their child marrying a polytheist, and possibly raising the grandchildren to reject Christ?

I think it's a fair question, and it's completely fair to not be comfortable with it.

It depends what type of Christians you are referring too.

Most Christians in America are milk toast Christians or how my pastor described them, "fake me out Christians."

I also think you are surprised because Nick Jonas is a short guy. The majority of women in all cultures prefer and are attractive to a significantly taller man. I think part of it is that a taller man is seen as more secure.

If you ask the majority of women what they find important in physical features of a man, height would be #1, #2, or #3.

I'm not familiar with Nick Jonas that much but I did like him in Jumanji.

It was surprising when they first started dating but they seem happy.

She looked gorgeous at her wedding. I love Indians weddings, they are so beautiful. I would totally have an Indian wedding but of course it would probably blow up and I'd get shamed with cultural appropriation.

Nick was in Jumanji? I guess as the guy who was trapped for years.

What does whether someone's career in hollywood is peaking or not have anything to do with love and marriage? O_o

And yea, 11 years is kind of long, but not unheard of.... and not as big of a gap as some

The stranger aspects are

1. The age difference is reversed compared to what is typical. Most woman tend to marry older men, rather than younger
2. Height difference, she appears to be taller than Jonas, and by the pictures I would not be surprised to find out weighs more
3. Religion and culture. Hindu/Indian parents generally do not like their kids marrying outside of their religion/caste (except upward) and culture

Is she a millennial though... lol

She is 11 years older than him... but now that I think of... for an America boyfriend, he is might be a safe choice for her culturally. John Mayer would want to get her, but that would hurt her image at home. BTW... there is a former porn star making waves in Bollywood films. Her name is Sunny Leon. The society is changing. I wouldn't be surprised if they have some kind of soft core porn in India soon.

Pryianka is not like Sunny at all. She does value her family, and her reputation. Sunny has embrassed her poor parents.

Sunny Leon, was Canadian born and raised. I expect culturally she is generally very Canadian/American. I expect she was cast in Bollywood films at first for the publicity she would bring to them, and eventually found a good base of fan support. As for porn in India, I am sure there is lots of non pro porn made and available in India

Same! I loved the sister's wedding in "Bend It Like Beckham." So colorful!

I am sort of a fan of Priyanka. She is a cross cover bollywood actress, and she is on Quantico. While I think she is very beautiful, she also looks very surgically enhanced, but that's ok. Her career is on the up and up, and she is making a lot of money. She is also 11 years older than Nick Jonas. He is the from the Jonas Brothers, and I would say his career has peaked.

I really don't know why my girl Priyanka is so into him. I think she can do a lot better.

Doesn't he look out of place?

Side note: She is Hindu and a polytheist. I watched the Joans family's reality show, and they seemed very religious. I am kind of surprised his family is ok with this.

Maybe - just maybe - she had a big crush on him when he was in the Jonas Bros band, and she grew up and got to marry her crush?

And he grew up and got to marry a regulation hottie?

As far as her parents being concerned - well, as has been mentioned, they were probably like, "Well, I can get past the polytheist thing. I mean, at least she's not Miley Cyrus after all."

I raised my kids as Christian, but also raised them to love who you want to love. Don't care who it is, what race, what gender, what ethnicity. I have said this before, but it never hurts to be repeated - it's too hard to find love without putting restrictions on it.

Good for him, and good for her.

Personally, if I were her, I would have gone for someone .... else? But hey, I didn't have to marry the kid. She did, so good for her.

Sunny seems willing to do things on camera other actresses would hesitate to do. Some Bollywood films are starting to look like soft core porn.

When he was 10, she was 21. She was crowned Miss India when she was 17, and he was 6.

I really don't think she was ever a Jonas Brother's fan, or a had a girl crush on him. She would have been an adult, when he was big on Disney.

Well, you didn't say that religion doesn't matter. :2razz:

I am not a mom, but I have nieces and nephews. I know if I had kids, I would prefer they marry within their faith or, at least, in the Abrahamic faiths. I especially wouldn't want them getting into any dangerous or cult like religion. I don't know everything about Hinduism, but I think I know a few things... it's the oldest religions still largely practiced in the world, and many aspects of the faith are in direct conflict with basic tenants of Abrahamic faiths. I just cannot understand how somebody can take their faith seriously, but be willing to ignore the foundations of their in this circumstance and say there is absolutely no conflict. I am not arguing parents should disown their children or anything, because I wouldn't do that either. I am not angry or uncomfortable about other religions, but it is something that I would prefer my own child getting involved with.

Well, I am not exactly saying that they are not in love and the marriage will not last. IDK the future. I just think the couple is strange.

They did two wedding ceremonies and a huge dance show and performance.... and it lasted days... :2razz:

She did look beautiful...

The height and age difference is very unusual in that culture. It doesn't look good for a woman to marry a younger man or a man that she is taller than. In fact, the women tend to marry very soon, because once you're 30+ and unwed, my friend says, "men will think something is wrong with you."....

Interesting.... it seems American mainstream media thinks Priyanka is kind of a scammer, trying to marry into Hollywood. It's starting to look like Americans don't realize how famous she is in Bollywood and outside of America. She is more famous outside of American than she is inside, and she is more famous than Nick is in Hollywood.

So while some in the American audience think she is a scammer, some in India and Priyanka fans (like me), we know she is famous and a superstar, and we don't think Nick is a scammer, but find this match to really odd considering her fame and success.

On Tuesday, New York Magazine’s the Cut published a horribly offensive essay, one that played into racist and sexist narratives, alleging that Priyanka Chopra is a “global scam artist” who manipulated a younger rich white guy into marrying her against his will. The lede of the piece, which was “updated” and later deleted entirely, began: “Nicholas Jonas married into a fraudulent relationship against his will this past Saturday, December the 1st, and I’ll tell you why I think so.”

Indian media is firing back at the American press....

And personally, I think Nick stands to benefit more than Priyanka. She is a Bollywood producer. He could make an appearance in Bollywood film, go to B Town parties, and get snapped with the King of Bollywood, Salman Khan.

Of course there are more important things and life, and Hollywood stars are considered above Bollywood, but still. I could see Nick making in roads... but I am not calling him a scammer. This is just how India and Priyanka fans see it.

Maybe next time Jonas!

From what I've read, all is not as it seems with this marriage. ;)
