Olympics have started!

big day for British boxing in the morning! Apparntly the spice girls are going to be doing part of the closing so it should be a laugh!

Congrats to the US women for winning the Gold. Candace Parker was a board-crashing/scoring force of nature. Great job, Candace!

More importantly - the US sprint relay team of Tianna Madison, Allyson Felix, Bianca Knight, Carmelita Jeter have taken off an old and very probably illegally induced East German world record from the 80's. That was a stunning run - and the American 4x100 men pushed Jamaica all the way to breaking the men's world record too.

Mo Farrah you hero! Big shout out to Tom Daley as well 18 years old and has had to deal with bullying, huge media spotlight and the death of his father last year ( all in the media spotlight). Bronze medal kid you earned that.

Plymouth does not have much sporting success (look at our Football Team:() to cheer, so, Plymouth came out in massive support on our town centre Big screen and pretty much any screen:) As for the 'Bullying story' it was more really the massive celebrity he had become was not conducive with attending his Local comprehensive, hence receiving a scholarship at a local fee paying school.

Which event?

ladies basketball. the USA set a record of domination with that win-41 straight victories and 5 gold medals in a row

Good, we beat the Chinese. Let that be a lesson to the Communist pigs. They'll get no where treating their athletes like ****.

Whoops, left that out. Thanks for covering for me, TD.

Saw that run. The ladies were awesome. Rumor is, they were so fast the cameraman had to use a wide-angle lens just to keep them in the frame.

Online before Prime Time for Closing Ceremonies.

NBC to stream Olympic closing ceremony live - Olympic sports- NBC Sports

NEW YORK - NBC announced it is Changing plans and will stream the Olympic closing ceremony live online, starting at 4 p.m. ET Sunday.

Sunday's ceremony from London will still air on a tape-delayed basis on NBC in prime time.
The opening ceremony was watched by 40.7 million people, a bigger audience than for the Grammys and Oscars this year. NBC has since found that streaming live all of the Olympic sports events online has not cut into its prime-time audience, which has been unexpectedly bigger than the 2008 games in Beijing.

"Going into the opening ceremony, we didn't have a sense for what our ratings would be and what streaming would or wouldn't do to our broadcasts," said NBC Sports Chairman Mark Lazarus. "But we think we've learned enough and have promised to innovate and continually evolve our broadcast coverage."

NBC stressed that Sunday's stream was an experiment and doesn't necessarily mean the same policy would hold true for the 2014 winter games in Sochi, Russia. The stream is available to cable and satellite customers who go to the NBCOlympics.com website.

Sunday's ceremony has been described as a music-filled after-party that will feature the Spice Girls, The Who, George Michael, Muse and others in a show that will include performances of some 30 British hit singles over five decades.

Poor Spain, played well, but in the 4th the US just wanted it more.

If only the BBC had hired this guy - he would have had no problem keeping up on the camera.

Spain played very well. They were an excellent opponent. Congrats to the men's basketball team for a successful gut check and the gold.

Yup. When he retires, he's got a sure job filming the sprints.

Whether you beat the Chinese or not, they still have the last laugh because in the end your country still owes them a huge debt. Fortunately for them, you are not their master otherwise their athletes will really be treated like ****.

Pray that your country can turn the tables on your so-called "Communist pigs" and bankrupt them financially in the future.

Olympics have started!

And now the Olympics have ended!!!!

Yeah!!!

There was plenty of rough and dirty stuff from both sides! That is part of soccer. I know, because I have played at a fairly high level.

No doubt, Tancredi should have been carded for her stomp, along with other questionable dirty tactics committed by BOTH teams. Having said that, none would have resulted in a penalty kick, which is something that more than always directly affects the score. Poor Canada could not get away with one innocent ball to hand, unlike the Americans who committed three blatent ones in both the semis and final. Tell me, how do you feel about that?

So in the league you played in, were head-stomps normal? Was that considered 'part of the game'?

I think whining is unbecoming, no matter who does it. And what you are doing is whining.

Funny, you call me a whiner, yet you have not stopped whining about the head stomp (even *AFTER* I admitted that it was intentional and deserved a card!). How ever so unbecoming! :doh

In any event, knowing most thought the call was atrocious gives me peace of mind. The Americans girls have a collective horse shoe up their arses and were extremely lucky to get gold. And I am glad to see gosh-golly-jeez-darn Canadians with some fire in their bellies.

Get over it. You lost. Your performance in the Olympics was woeful. Go practice some more.

I was speaking more to their performance as a nation at the Olympics. It's a nation of 34 million people with access to quality training facilities, and they won one (1) gold medal. Compare that to the haul of the UK about twice as many people and 29 times as many gold medals.

Plus, I'm just tired of the guy whining. Every frickin' thread he's complaining about the women's soccer game. He needs to get over it.

If you're going down that route then the US seriously underperformed by around 2500 medals.

And China would be far worse.

C'mon, lets not go this route. Every athlete tried their damnedest, and every country should be proud of them. I mean, I wanted the US to win women's gymnastics team gold very much, but I honestly felt sorry for the Russian girls when they lost. They were terrific, honestly. At that point in time, they weren't the long-time political enemy of us, they were just human beings striving hard to be the best. I felt sympathy for them. During the Olympics, it's the athletes that matters, not the political divides. I'll admit the countries I root for are somewhat politically motivated, but I don't see the their opponents as enemies, rather I see them as honorable athletes. In the end, I love a great athletic exposition from anyone anywhere.

One of the things spoken about by the athletes of all nations was the warmth of the crowds at all the venues, who would root for their own guy but give credit to a good performance by anyone. That even extended to cheering home the underdogs who had been completely outclassed or lapped or whatever. Braggarts and whiners, not so much.

Roy Hodgson was saying he wishes the crowds at the footy could be more like that

i watched the women 1500 meters final and were so proud of our golden girls....
