Congrats to Canada on winning the Bronze.

Congrats to the US for winning gold in the womens football! Has to be said though they were a dirty dirty team.

meh, all teams play dirty. apparently it is part of the game. at least the US girls didn't sucker punch anyone during a match

Honestly, after the World Cup last year I am glad they stepped up. They were constantly hit in the World Cup and in one of the early games against Columbia.

oh yeh I agree sometimes to win the big tournaments you have to leave your studs in the tackle and get a little physical.

I will admit though, that it did seem wrong against the Japanese. They weren't dirty, just physical. And they should have had at least one PK, probably two. They were without question the better team...and lost.

thats football though you have to put away your chances! Even though Solo did well in goal the Japenese made it very easy for her!

I think there was a lot of dirt to go around. A Columbia player was sent home for punching a U.S. player. A Canadian player stomped on the head of a U.S. player. I don't know how we decide one team is 'dirty' and the other isn't.

No for sure there were some dirty players out there during the 2 weeks but I just thought that the US were constantly leaving the foot in, pulling on shirts and being a little overly physical. But they won the Gold so fair play to them it worked!

Wambach influenced ref

this was well played by Wambach though! Might do this to the ref on Sunday if I get a chance!

exactly, rules is rules even if they are seldomly enforced. (like lane violations in the NBA) kudos to her for "forcing" the ref to take notice and enforce it.

Yep, the game within the game.

Well if that is your take, then she should have been carded. In no way a referee should put up with a player trying to influence their "reffing." That is an automatic yellow. Oops.

But don't despair. That big fat c**t Wamback will have an awesome time at the World Cup in 2015. It's being played in my city, in fact. There's already discussion about the crowd counting out loud everytime Solo has possession of the ball. It will be called "the Wamback Whine." I'm...err... counting down the days.

All teams play physical. You cannot win on finesse alone.

My side lost today but the Americans played a very good game. :) Congratulations to them. Still feel bad for Canada; sometimes those are the breaks though.

Well, as unpopular as it is around here, I am thrilled for the US soccer team's gold-medal victory. They've suffered their share of devastating disappointment and losses over the past couple of years, and as far as I'm concerned theirs was a righteous win. I'm also excited for the US women's basketball team making it to the finals. And the decathalon, with USA's Eaton and Hardee running first and second ahead of the pack, and the American swimmer nobody paid attention to who took silver in that "deep water marathon" competition, all I can say is "Go USA!" So pfffft to all you ABA'ers (Anybody-But-America) out there!

That said, I caught the semi-final women's Taekwondo match, and the GB contender whipped the pants off the reigning world champion to move on to the finals! Mega-congrats to the Brits!

I didn't get a chance to see much else today, but I hope those y'all are pulling for do well for themselves and make their countries proud. :)

nah you misunderstand me! As a English football fan I very much enjoyed the USA winning with physical footy!

The Brit won in the final which was awesome! Massive shout out to the US Gold Silver in Decathlon, that is unreal to Gold/Silver that event!

yeah and the defending champion didn't even make the US team-I think he failed to post a score in the PV at our trials

I think the women have learned a lot from watching the men play. I'm trying to remember the last time I saw a corner kick taken where there weren't at least two fouls committed.

PS Congrats to the UK team. Compared to the populations of the teams ahead of you in the medal count, you've done amazingly well.

Glad, though, they didn't pick up on the acting and diving yet.
