In addition, Obama in my opinion was wise not to get into another long drawn out debate with the right wing, who's only calculus is to find a way to hurt the administration and the country. This isn't 2008...2009...2010....Obama have seen enough of your games and have played it to the detriment of the very democrats who elected him to act!

Again, just as the example of what Israel does with prisoner exchanges. Bush was/is a knucklehead. I actually thought that he would be the key for democrats to control congress for a generation. That being said, the lousy (in my view) job that Obama has done has endangered democratic majorities in the senate and perhaps the white house going forward.

Actually it does. If these guys were high value targets they wouldn't have been transferred. Instead they were a bunch of nobodies. All you neocons keep saying everyone in Guantanamo is a "high level taliban leader" and other such hyperbolic nonsense. If their guilt is so obvious then these people would have all been charged by now.

It's not a criminal matter. There are no criminal charges. It's a military matter, and them being identified as enemy combatants is all that is needed to keep them detained.

there's still a lot of information that needs to come out, but as of now, I support Obama getting the dude back... but i do not support the way he made it happen...."paying ransoms" is not a policy position you want to put yourself into ,as it endangers Americans worldwide.
circumventing congress on the matter is a big ass no-no...not only is it shameful behavior by the administration, but it appears to be illegal behavior as well.
I think we can all agree that such illegal behavior will result in...absolutely nothing...no accountability for breaking any law will occur.
with that in mind, I find myself disagreeing more with the idea of the radical change in policy of "we don't negotiate with terrorist"... it's very troublesome... now, we actually do negotiate with terrorists, and who knows what that may brings.
hopefully nothing will come of this policy chance...but we'll see in the future.

if had to make a prediction, I would wager Obama will change the policy back to one of non-negotiation if that is what is politically expedient or opportune at the time... he's a shrewd operator, a bit inept, but certainly not dumb.

so overall.. given the information at hand.. I give Obama a C on the matter.

If they were really such high value targets then why weren't the charged and then imprisoned/executed? Instead they faced indefinite detention. And by the way, indefinite detention is something that you should be outraged about.

You might want to do a little research on what the SCOTUS has to say about terrorists. A terrorist who commits a crime on American soil is certainly under the jurisprudence of our court system as criminals. If they are leaders of terror cells in countries where we are at war, they are enemy combatants, may be held in accordance with laws that govern those affairs, and are not entitled to our criminal due process of law.
