I know why they were there. I also know she chose to leave the United States, take a job with a Danish company and then to accept a position in Somalia for that company. She should have known the risks, and therefore took the chances herself. It is not the duty of the US Military to go and retreive every American Citizen too ****ing stupid to stay where they belong and not get themselves in trouble.
"She" being the prime focus for you, eh?
By your view here we could say, "a soldier volunteers to join the forces and so when he's stupid enough to get caught while on a mission we shouldnt' lift a finger to help and rescue him - he shouldn't have volunteered if he didn't want to risk being MIA"
Great job by a bunch of amazing men. I've had the honor of meeting several SEALs and former SEALs over the years and they are truly the cream of the crop when it comes to what they do. Very glad they all came home in one piece.
On the other hand, I am TOTALLY against using US Military personnel to go rescuing American (and especially foreign) civilians who are too stupid to stay out of harms way. Somalia is NOT a tourist destination or a safe place for Westerners to work. I would have to bet the US State Department probably suggests AGAINST US citizens traveling there for any reason. This woman chose to ignore that basic common sense. They should have let her rot.
I don't have a Pro-Life position. I have an Anti-Abortion position,
Im very much in favor of the action and have always given props to the pres for fighting terrorism. However...piracy is NOT 'terrorism', it is a criminal act. Irrelevant with regard to the appropriate use of the Seals...but not terrorism.Let's see here...Somali pirates kidnap a couple, and we should call that....what?
I take it from your response to my complimenting our military personnel that you either support the pirates and so do not consider what they were doing an act of terror, or you are one of the people who thrive on confrontation...either way your reply deserves no respect, and has received none.
It takes your breath away, their capacity and their bravery,' Vice President Biden told ABC. 'These guys and women are amazing.
Ah yes, compassionate conservatism rears its head. I'm sure you would have felt exactly the same way had it been your daughter. The woman was an aid worker. J

Truly, an amazing group of people...worthy of the term Hero. This is the type of action we should be taking to thwart terrorism, not invading countries.
One just has to love the hypocrisy of your so called pro-life position.
Once she decided to leave the United States she would no longer have been my daughter, so it wouldn't have made any difference to me. In my mind Conservatism is not a compassionate ideal. It's based on Right and Wrong, a Black v White concept, not compassion.
You aren't even close to having the facts straight about the kidnap victims.
You successfully topped yourself with a comment more vile and despicable than the last.

Well done, again, to the Navy Seals.

Good job to the SEALS but Americans civilian who go to countries hostile to Americans should not get any help what so ever.
Okay fine, let's talk about the Bush war strategy and how we shouldn't have gone into Afghanistan. Please step up and rehash that for me. I haven't heard about it enough, I need a refresher. Go ahead the floor is yours.........You didn't comment about it  god, yes let's not talk about anything else, here.
I see nothing wrong with discussing our overall military strategy when our military does something good. That's like suggesting we don't talk about general business practices when a business in general donates money to a charity. Are we on a debate forum of what?
Anyway - obviously I think they did a great job and obviously I don't see the reason to cap the conversation at that. I will point out that Buchanan wasn't the only one rescued - Thisted was rescued to . . . sexism and ageism in action. (there - a jab at the media who was slanted at the writing of their article title to omit him)

I am with Tigger on this. Good job to the SEALS but Americans civilian who go to countries hostile to Americans should not get any help what so ever.
What am I missing, hazelnut? She's an American citizen who apparently doesn't want to spend any time in the United States. The fact that she's some fruity, crunch, missionary/humanitarian type does not give her any more value in my mind than any other American who chooses to step foot outside the borders of the USA. Nor does the fact that her health was failing. So, what part of this am I missing?
despicability.

In all fairness Hazl, isn't that how you view conservatism too? I know that's how it often appears to me.You successfully topped yourself with a comment more vile and despicable than the last.
